My new thing is I’ve been calling dealers, getting a sales persons phone number. Then texting them to ask about what fees and closing costs their dealership adds. That way it’s in writing and you can put a deposit down to have them allocate a car for you. That way you have some kind of recourse if they lied.

Just to share my experience. I'm sure ya'll know about the vehicle shortage. hence almost all dealerships are doing reservations. There are basically two reservation lines. MT and AT. MT buyers are all backed up to 18 people in the dealership. So that'll be a good two year's wait.

    • @thebox378

At my dealership they even had separate lines for Standard MT and Premium MT. There were 6 people ahead of me when I got in line for Premium MT and was told a 4-6 month wait. 4 months late I was told there were now 5 people ahead and it was gonna be another 8 months, but they had a Standard MT coming in next week. Still wish I had the premium wheels, PS4 tires, duckbill spoiler, and adaptive cornering headlights, but still I am super happy with my car.

I despise all dealerships, even though I acknowledge that some of them are more friendly and honest than others. However, the majority of them are basically scammers. These markup and/or add-on crap they are pulling are just pure greed. Some of them argue that they sold car below MSRP when it was buyers' market before the pandemic, so why wouldn't they sell above MSRP now when it is sellers' market. To that, I agree that they are not technically wrong. BUT people need to understand that dealers sold cars below MSRP because they wanted to get business away from their competitors (other dealers) or they wanted to meet some of the sales quota to qualify for certain manufacturer rebates. They only lowered the price enough so that they could still come out maximizing their profit with other sales incentives available to them. Say it another way, they didn't hand out discount out of good-heartedness trying to save customer money. Now though, when the market tips to their favor, they do all kind of dirty tricks to gouge car buyers out of pure greediness. Dealers can keep thinking to themselves that "business is business" so they can sleep better at night, but there is ethical and unethical ways to do business, and most dealers choose to be unethical.
