  • Reading T-1 2102 returns to steam! On April 6, 2022, 2102 performed its first test run at speed along the former Reading Railroad mainline between Reading and Port Clinton Pennsylvania. It's been a long time coming, after over 30 years of silence, the 4-8-4 has finally undergone a wonderful multi-year restoration by the Reading & Northern Railroad.

    On a quiet Pennsylvanian day one can easily imagine being teleported back in time to when a series of engines once rambled the many fan trips they once carried that became known as the Reading T1.

    SO MANY STEAM LOCOMOTIVES HAVE BEEN REVIVED IN THE LAST 3-5 years what theeeee. makes me so happy it’s like every month I hear another organization or musuem announce a newly restoring and operational steamer. Though I’m more into the more powerful whistle than the owl tooters like this big guy I still am continually liking steam more the older I get

    I can't believe this is real. 2102 back in operation. That whistle is so eerie too. I know they were hoping to have 2102 in operation a few years ago but it got delayed. But the timing, is this because 425 is due for a rebuild soon and Mr Muller wants a steamer in operation for the money making leaf trains?

    Im gonna get a lot of hate for saying this because a lot of people already disagree with me lol.
    I’m my opinion, the hooter whistle doesn’t fit the engine very well. Yes, I am aware that it is 2102s original whistle, but I feel like this manly beast of a steam engine deserves a more beastly whistle, I hope in the future that they give ‘er a Reading 6 Chime. Although I do have to admit, the echo that hooter whistles give is truly amazing. One other question, during the fall foliage trips later this year will 2102 be moving as fast as she was in the last clip? Or will she be moving at a slower pace for the passengers to enjoy the scenery (and to give chasers an easier chase?)

    • @NCXDesigns
      @NCXDesigns 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel the same way, the whistle needs to be deeper kinda to go with its sheer size. I mean SB 475 has a hooter similar to this one and she's smaller, but N&W 611 has a nice smooth deep hooter. Like 425, 2102 will also wear different whistles from Andy's collection of whistles. I still can't get over the 425 wearing a Class J whistle, it didn't feel right lol and one point they had her wearing the very famous whistle from the N&W 1218. Even had the PRR K4s whistle, and a NKP Berk whistle on her, so he has a nice collection we can look forward to hearing.

      I was surprised when I heard this whistle. A soprano? I thought it would be at least a baritone, to judge from its size.
      I'll be interested in hearing this engine's whistle in the future. Will they use the original, authentic whistle it used in regular service, or something else (and perhaps more...baritone)? There's a restoration dilemma for you!
