6:40 did not age well... Fast forward to 3/2021, Li Dayin recovering from surgery. Lu Xiaojun posting heavy snatches at 90%+ of the world record on a weekly basis. The quality of athlete Lu Xiaojun has come to be is simply astonishing. Taking all comers for 15+ years and still being China's go-to #1lifter between 170-180lbs.

It makes no sense that multiple competitors from the same country can compete in the same event for swimming and track and field, yet only one per weight class, and four total per country? Makes no sense. If you qualify, you qualify. China should be allowed multiple competitors in the same weight class in weightlifting. In the same sense, I believe countries like Russia should be allowed multiple competitors in the same weight class in wrestling. If it's allowed in track and field and swimming, why not weightlifting and wrestling, where China and Russia are clearly the most dominant and have the best athletes in those respective sports. It should be the best in the world, not the best from different countries, because sometimes the top athletes come from the same country. I prefer the format of the World Championships over the Olympics in this matter.

    • @calitaco

Despite the numerous ailments for which practitioners claim cupping therapy is useful, there is insufficient evidence it has any health benefits.

I believe China is allocated four spots in men's weightlifting; if Lu wants to compete, he or Li can drop to 77 kg and the other would remain at 81, Shi competes at 73 and Chen Lijun at 67. Tian Tao is inconsistent and would be a gamble against Messo and Rostami.

Everyone's Eiki Yes thank you for pointing that out. That complicates things a bit; doesn’t it? On the one hand, Lu is the reigning world champion, on the other hand, he’s getting older and is having back issues. I imagine he may concede the spot to Dayin. As for Fabin, he has to contend with Irawan, and the Chinese want “guaranteed” wins for the Olympics.

@@misterf7739I don't really know, but there's many Olympic weightlifters that never back squat. It's simple, when do you ever back squat in competition? You front squat a clean and snatch squat. Front squatting is more functional and is a tool that leads to more improvement than back squat. This is off topic but one time my back squat max was 365 and I just started doing front squat (285 max). After reaching a max of 315 on front squat, I noticed my knees were a lot more stable and I was able to do a pistol squat/ one legged squat with ease, and increase my clean PR by 20 pounds. This was more improvement than back squatting
