    My mother told me when I was a teenager that I was too stupid to go to college. When I wanted to learn how to drive, she told me I would never have a car of my own. I got pregnant with my oldest son at 18. Self fulfilling prophecy! At 29 with three sons, I was driving by own car taking her where she wanted or needed to go. I also went to college and won a scholarship. I believed I was more than she thought I was. I NEVER told my sons they were not good enough! They are now good men who do their best.

    I've been struggling with a cold, so to help myself feel as though I was doing something/anything productive, I went to the closet of shelves I want to declutter, and I took several pictures of the layout of the contents. I was amazed at how poorly I'd been using the space lately. I'd become blind to many easily resolved issues.. The pictures gave me the perspective I need to tackle the job much more effectively when I feel a bit better. :)

    When I was a teenager, my room, like many teenagers, would become a disaster. In all, it would look overwhelming. I would take everything that needed to be put away together in the center of the room. So the bed could be made and the outskirts of the room would appear uncluttered. Then I would work from the center of the room. Either putting stuff away or getting rid of it. Eventually, the pile would get smaller until the room was clean. This was back in the 70s and I still remember how that helped me.

    • @tarynmaria_

    I go to the mall once a week. I buy nothing. Since I retired I have become a mall walker. I have come to a point I can see something I really like and not buy it. Admire it for a minute and move on. My friend never comes with me because she says she has no money. I am not much of a shopper. Seems less and less each year. I do some decluttering every few days. It is rhythm .

    Good ideas. Walking into a room and just looking is a good one, how about taking a photo go out of the room and look at the picture there might be something glaringly obvious your brain didn't see. Also leave a room tidier than when you went it (just in a small way) it all dds up.

    The two most overbearing people in my family or origin used to talk to me as if I was always struggling with money or cheap, when that wasn't true.
    I think that was a better description for them. With that correction in beliefs, I do believe that I can unload a lot more items, because a scarcity theme does not serve me.

    My problem is that I live too much in the now. If the future is not real, then why spend my time now working? The only reason to declutter is either because I enjoy the process, or because I want it done for the future. I have to sacrifice my fun now for my future self.
    I wanted to have a relaxing evening last night so I ignored the dishes and didn't take anything out of the freezer for dinner tonight.... now it's almost dinner time and all the meat is frozen... It didn't even cross my mind because it wasn't in the now. (I have ADHD so I have to set constant reminders or I will literally not see things that need doing for the future.)

    • @tarynmaria_
      @tarynmaria_  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Good point! I like the intention behind the quote, for me it's a good way to let go of limiting beliefs you might have had.

    • @Sheri77
      @Sheri77 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can still reap a harvest in the now when you're preparing for the future. I'm not much of a planner myself, but I can see and feel like I have accomplished a goal in the now when I remember to leave myself a note to remember to take something out to defrost.

      I read Eckhart's book, A New Earth, Awakening to your life's purpose, and found it helpful in seeing when you hold onto the past, how it can affect how we see ourselves and those around us…keeping us from actually being free to live in the present moment.
      There were also certain things in the book that were disappointing, his unbelief in Christ's purpose. But like decluttering your home and your mind, some books, like gardens, need to have the weeds plucked out. You glean and keep what is necessary and let go of the rest.

      Hi @cmbooks2000 In context of Ekhardt’s teaching he’s pointing to the fact that all that you really have is the present. Past is gone and you can’t do anything about it, the future hasn’t happened yet so the only thing that really is - is this moment. This is the power of now.

    I hate shopping period, but have to buy foods and other needs. I'm not organized, but believe in keeping order. I don't own much. I have very little clothing that needs to be donated. If I had a vehicle then it would be easier to get rid of things. Don't have money to buy what isn't needed, but do my best to only get what is useful. Want to have a hobby, but without having time, prioritizing has to be first for what is needed.

    I clean my washing machine with bleach and baking soda about once a month. I also throw in my white shower curtain liner and non slip bathtub mat so they don't grow mold or mildewy, so that's a twofer. After that cycle, I wash a load of whites, since I don't need to worry about any lingering drops of bleach as everything is white already, so thats the 3rd chore taken care of.

    Hi Taryn .. Great declutterring tips you have here on your channel . . Great job. 👏😊 // Just an fyi only- for those who don’t know - Eckart Tolle (the author of the book you mentioned - the book that you didn’t read) is a known NEW AGE False Teacher-just an fyi to you and your viewers so they are aware of that.
    ★ Colossians 2:8 “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.”
    ★May we Trust in JESUS-&-in God’s unfailing WORD (James 4:6-10, 2 Cor 6:2, Titus 2:11-15)-& then Keep Looking UP ^ - now more than ever! (Col 3:1-4, Luke 21:28) Keep up the great job on the channel ! ✝️🙏❤️

      Just because he’s not a Christian doesn’t mean he doesn’t have valuable information and teachings to pass on. Just because you don’t share his worldview, doesn’t mean he’s false. Imagine, people of different faiths calling you false simply for having your beliefs or practicing your religion. I may not agree with you but it doesn’t mean I have to call you a false person. Clearly, you believe in something very strongly so if anything I can say that rather than false, you’re staying true to your beliefs so maybe so does Ekhardt Tolle.
      I like that he goes a level above any one particular teaching and is well versed in philosophy and different religions. He can bring knowledge accumulated over millenia in different cultures and share it with people who may not have the same access to these various sources.
      Being a follower of one religion and condemning or condescending others doesn’t reflect all that well on one’s very own beliefs. Heads of religions always show respect to other cultures and religions, including Pope, Dalai Lama and others. Many have regular ecumenical meetings and gatherings.
      One of the greatest examples of love and tolerance is of course Jesus Christ himself. If you have a direct connection with God, whether through Jesus, Mother Mary, Saints or Angels, you may realise that church will not make this connection on your behalf. Occasionally it may even stand in the way… Church is run by people and people can be wrong, mislead or mistaken. It’s ok to belong to a church of course - there’s a community, shared vision, maybe even accountability and lots more. However, no church can establish the true connection with God for you, only you can do it within your own heart and within your own being. This is the meaning of spirituality, finding that connection with God within oneself. If you’re a Christian, you can find examples of spirituality (“approved” by the church) in biographies of mystics and Saints. It may be worth looking into them. Ekhardt’s teachings are about spirituality rather than religion and are non-denominational that’s probably why he attracts such a wide audience.
      PS This is not to encourage you to follow Ekhardt, just to give a broader context to those who read comments section. The book Power of Now is still absolutely worth reading and worth making one’s own mind about it rather than relying on what other ppl tell you about it.

      @@almondtree2011 Hi 👋 and Thank-You for sharing that above .. and yes I am aware of what you are saying completely.. and appreciate your respectful comment & reply.
      Just wanting to make those who have Christian beliefs made aware of this person (Eckhart Tolle) that he is a well known New Ager .. and after saying that- they can decide if that is what they want. I also respect Taryn as well.. but since she said she didn’t read the book I wanted her and/or whomever to be aware of this.
      Thanks again for sharing your reply above - and taking the time to reply back a respectful comment.

    I thought atomic meant explosive.😂

    • @tarynmaria_
      @tarynmaria_  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it does as well! I know in the context of physics it means individual atoms, which are tiny! 😊

    • @jennesont4791

      Atomic means indivisible. (An operation that must be performed entirely or not at all)

    • @slchance8839
      @slchance8839 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jennesont4791 Yes. "Atomic" refers to how small can you break something down before it become INDIVISIBLY something else. For example, one ATOM of gold is the SMALLEST piece you can break gold into. If you break one atom of gold any smaller, it's no longer gold, it becomes (79) protons, neutron, and electrons.
      And, techncially, if you take just ONE proton away from an atom of gold, it's no longer gold, it is now an atom of platinum. If you take TWO protons away from an atom of gold, it becomes an atom of Iridium
      People THOUGHT it mean explosive, because the marketing in world war II was that the ATOMIC bomb was the most explosive bomb in the world. An atomic bomb is when you harness the energy INSIDE (with fission or fusion) the atom to cause an explosion. A physics professor of mine gave a great best "simple" explanation: 6 family members crammed into a subcompact car for a 2 day road trip will get explosive, but the same 6 people spaced out on first class seats in an airplane would not.
      The marketing for "explosive = atomic" was SO effective that it's where we get the word "bikini," from. THe atomic bombs were tested on the Bikini Atoll Islands (Sponge Bob!) and at the time nobody wore a two piece swimsuit. The 2 piece bikini was so wildly explosive and popular and new that they called it "the Bikini," because people associcated the Bikini Islands with atomci explosions.
