I restore antique oil paintings and frames myself in the classical way with original materials. You did everything right. 👍The patina, signs of using, the destroying from the woodworms and the grown demage is incredible. It's a conservation not a restauration, but it looks amazing. Well done. 👌
Ich bin fasziniert von dieser Oberfläche und Struktur, die der Stuhl über die Zeit entwickelt hat und wie fantastisch diese konserviert wurde. Ein einzigartiges Ergebnis. Danke für das Video.
For anyone watching this video... this is a restoration! A restoration is not changing the use of the piece, it is not painting the piece to cover up damage. A restoration is returning the piece to its original functionality, to its original appearance, as much as possible. Absolutely wonderful work done here! Beautiful and high quality crafts!
actually, id argue that this is a conservation rather then a restoration. the fabric of the chair has be stabilised and preserved, be it has been done in a way as to keep a sense of artifact rather then returning it to its functionality as a chair. a restoration on this project would have been to replace any damaged wood and to make it strong enough to act as a chair. that said, doing so in this instance would have meant replacing nearly all the wood. so a conservation was a better approach.
It is not restoration! It is a commerical advertisment of wet & dry cacuum only! According to the our knowledge, restoration is the act or process of returning something to its earlier good condition. Put a rotten chair in a display cabinet & finish a so-called restoration, honestly speaking, will you dare to sit on this rotten & restorated chair?
Sorry for the stupid question, but thank you for answering it anyway lol. I watched while cooking yesterday and apparently missed the subtitles when you were explaining products used. Watching it again with full attention now and completely in awe.

Cleaned up, repaired but more preserved, this chair serves homage to its maker and its usefulness for all this time despite abuse/use, insect and water damage and desiccated. A tribute well managed, sir.🎉🎉😊
Superb video and excellent technique--10-for-10. I find that pulling out nails vertically, helps reduce splintering. So I tend to use the nippers in small bites (over a solid shield, like you do), while keeping the nail as vertical as is practical for a clean extraction. The use of oxalic acid for surface brightening and paraloid for resin stabilization is head and shoulders above nearly all other restorers on TH-cam. Note that paraloid can also be infused under vacuum, for maximal penetration.
An Oddly Beautiful Piece! Only Time and the Elements can Create Something Like this! Beautifully Preserved! I'd Love to Know its History. That's a lot of Nails for such a Little Chair!

Hello from Sardinia ☺️ oxalic acid is a gentle wood lightener, it gives stained and aged wood a uniform color tone. To kill worms, woodworm remover is used. In this chair the worms were no longer there 😅

I found this video frustrating. Is there a reason it had to be completely silent? I would have liked to have heard the history of the chair - how old is it? why is it important? why does it need to be preserved? - as well as what the person was doing and what materials they were using as they did it.
Bel lavoro, le sedie sono sempre un grattacapo da restaurare! Premetto che non sono un professionista, pero credo di poter dire con certezza che il restauro è stato ottimo fino all utilizzo della carteggiatrice elettrica e il vinavil......
