This was, and is, still one of my favorite early PC games, lol. It's also one of the first games I ever attempted to speedrun before I even knew wwhat speedrunning was as a kid. I loved the first three HP PC games with all my heart as a kid.
Fun little detail. At the right part of the Storyprogression, Mcgonnagal is giving class for other studs. You can desturb the class by running into it. She's giving a couple of warnings, but after a while she is taking housepoints for every disturbance. I loved to mess around to it, when I was a kid!
The game just reeks of fun. Its colorful, has good controls, good exploration, good puzzles. Its proof you don't need AAA graphics or budgets to make good games but here we are in 2024, with mediocre graphics, post processing effects on top of everything and slop gameplay.
This is a surprisingly good analysis of the PC version, I played the two PS1 games of the first two films Good quality video editing, and commentary. Deserving of many more subs and views :)
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Planning to go through all of them...eventually. They don't actually take me long to make when I just sit down and work on them, I just need to get the time though. Probably the inconsistent upload time isn't helping me on the TH-cam algorithm 😆
@@playbackgaming276 Perhaps you're right, but equally it appears that some people just take off on this website, and others need a little bit more traction before they find their feet. At least from me, you've earned a sub and some watch time for what I'd consider to be a very well edited and writte video :)
Yeah, the first 3 are top notch...I'm not looking forward to doing Goblet. There's only 2 Potter games I never finished, that one and philosophers stone on PS2. But we'll get to those later!
This isn’t the version of the game I played, I played the PS2 version. And I absolutely adored that one as a kid. And honestly, I still do if I’m ever able to play it.
I'm going to try and get round to playing this game this year. Enjoyed the first one when I was a kid, and even in hindsight it was a pretty good game with a great soundtrack and some beautiful and atmospheric level designs. I don't think that's just the nostalgia speaking either, although that definitely helps! This one does just seem to be an improvement in almost every way though, and have enjoyed watching various retrospective reviews and streams of people playing it. Need to give it a go myself.
So nostalgic. I remember being blown away with the exploration and duels. It was a big improvement from the first. These games could be remade and expanded...but I guess we are on the Hogwarts Legacy season now.
At some point I'm going to get to Hogwarts legacy and do a big comparison and talk about what I HOPED would be in the game etc. who knows, maybe the launch of the HBO series would be a good way to introduce some remakes!
Man this was nostalgic, I played these religiously up until Goblet of Fire where my Dad's PC just couldn't take it any more. I remember thinking the game was just meant to be choppy because I didn't understand anything about framerate or specs....good times
This is a really well made video Playback! I love how you just start the video with no filler words or something else. I like the animations of the game covers :)
You can actually go into the settings and make the game harder. I've done it before. I didn't really notice a change though. Please tell me what your experience is with it.
I literally replayed these games just this past spring! They are still really good imo. Needed some mods to make the first one play as smooth as the second one though!
I actually didn't know there was such a big modding community till I started this series. I've still to try it. Was it worth the time to mod the first one?
I only had the GameBoy Color version, and bought the PS1 disc during the PS3 era as a collectible, so the PC/console experience of these earlier HP games are foreign to me.
I've been debating whether to cover the hand held versions or not. I never really played them growing up and there are already so many games just for the console/pc versions haha. I think the PS2 and the PC versions of the first 3 games are still pretty solid and worth trying out at some point.
@@playbackgaming276 I notice that you have the PS1 version of the first game. I think covering the PS1 versions are great, alongside the PS2. The GameBoy Advance versions of the first two HP games are different from the GameBoy Color versions, and the GameBoy Advance game for the third movie is made by the studio who did the first two GameBoy Color games. Which means the GBA version of PoA is not a sequel to the GBA version of CoS but instead a sequel to the GBC version of CoS lol. Anyway, if you choose to cover it, I'll be there! if not, no sweat!
If you come across the CD...don't buy it, cause it won't work cause of the old DRM. If you google "Harry Potter Abandonware" you should find what you need. There's still a couple of things you'll need to do to get it to work though, so I've added in the description a link to the video that got me set up. Enjoy!
But what is the best version of the game? Probably the game boy color version! Edit: their are five Harry Potter chamber of secrets games PC PS1 GBA GBC XBOX/gamecube/Ps2 But the ps2 version also has a different developer.
I haven't played the handhelds, been debating whether to cover them or not (maybe after I've covered the console and PC ports since I've already started.) I'll need to see if my opinion changes when I revisit the ps2 port but so far the PC one is winning for me
Thanks very much, I really appreciate it! This video seems to have kicked things off for whatever reason. First 2 videos in the series only got 200 views. I'm in the middle of writing the script for the PS1 version so hopefully it won't be long till that's out there.
Thank you! I really appreciate that. To be fair, there aren't a lot of videos up yet and it takes me a while to get round to. I do this stuff professionally so I just do it when I have time for fun. Hopefully I'll be able to post more than...you know, 2 videos a year 🤣🤣
This game was fucking fire back in the day
It’s still is! :-)
For real, it was.
Still is I just played the PC trilogy this week
Still is! Aged amazingly well!
The music is flatout amazing. The pauzemenu theme is a thing of beauty.
“You really have a knack for f*cking everything up!” Dumbledore said calmly
Well except for Lily 😊

Also loved the small section of the video with Dumbledore and Snape! Really fun to watch :)
I just bought this game yesterday
That's so well observed! And the fun part with Snape and Dumbledore made my day.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it 😄

This is the absolute best. The atmosphere is unmatched. Love this game

I almost died at that little animation with Dumbledore and Snape lol
Great work with these retrospectives! The old Harry Potter games are pure nostalgia for me too.
Thanks! I'm glad you are enjoying them so far. Hopefully at some point I'll be able to post more consistently. Just need to find more time!
Also, you caught my attention by having music in the name. Really nice arrangements!

@@ScamperMusic Ah, no way! How did you find that? 😂
@@playbackgaming276 Just the other way round. :) I've been too in the Mike Verta community.

Not just Chamber of Secrets. The first three games on PC are great.... and then they had to go mess it all up with the fourth game.

For real? I didn't know that! I take it you have to go into the .ini file or something? It's not in the actual game menu right?
