Excellent review, thank you very much, the microphone that sounds the best in my opinion is the fifine k669d and it is very surprising because it is the cheapest and I very much agree with you on the Shure microphone there is no reason to pay so much for it except for posing
This video was helpful. I use the Wave 3 USB mic from Elgato & the one issue I have with it is the room noise pickup. I was thinking an XLR mic might help but if the Wave DX does the same, I may as well pass on it.
Its still best to realize the difference in microphones. The Wave 3 is a condenser microphone which is usually picks up more room sounds based upon how a condenser microphone works. The Wave DX is a dynamic microphone and treats sound differently through activating the capsule passilvely, rather than active like a condenser microphone does. My concern with the microphone was that it had more room sound than other similar microphones in the price range, but it is still less than a condenser microphone. That being said, it is all relative. If you keep your microphone far way from you, then inevitably you will have room sounds as you have to crank the volume to be heard. Get the microphone close, turn the gain down and you should improve this on any microphone.
An awesome video as per usual, Brandon! 😄👍👍 I appreciate you for going into such a high level of detail with your comparisons. 🗣️🎙️ Cheers to you, my man! 🥃🥃
Hello, your videos had helped me a lot on which mic to buy, I ended up getting a Fifine k688 and I'm loving it but I'm a complete newbie in terms of equalization, I wanna do it for discord (and maybe streaming), do you have any tutorial on how to equalize?
@@Gaetan.N I'm really happy with it, I tried quite a few mics before this one (HyperX Solocast, Fifine AM8 and Razer Seiren Mini) I was looking for a mic with both good noise mitigation and nice sound quality (on a budget) since I play on my living room and there's a bunch of noise from my TV, pets, etc. This mic is great out of the box, but after some eq sounds quality tops! (also a mute button is mandatory for me lol)
Hey mate! As someone looking to get into content creation currently using a headset mic.. do you have any beginner recommendations for upgrading to a standalone mic please?
Best budget mic I’ve tested for around 50$ is the FIFINE AM8. For 20 dollars more, there comes a few more options, but that is a great mic to start. USB and XLR
@@DarkenedCyrus ah thanks mate. I've been lost with the quadcast S, at2020, sennheiser profile, elgato wave 3, and so on. All sound good but all about £120 without an arm. Not sure if they were worth the cost
Hi! Great video, I'm watching some on your channel cause I'm look for a new mic... I actually have one,but I can't find a way to not hear myself back through my monitor (it would rec everything twice in my future video)... It's an xlr tascam, when I tried a usb mic from razer it worked fined without any feedback...Any idea how I could fix this without having to buy a new one?
Thanks for the support! Thats an interesting issue and sounds more like a software issue rather than hardware. I’m intrigued to see if we can figure it out. Maybe make a support ticket in my discord and let’s see what we can do?
To my ears, in this demo, the sm7b was the least pleasant sounding, with the K688 being the the most pleasant. I tend to prefer a more subdued top end to reduce mouth noises and lip smacking (misophonia). Of course an EQ / compression can sort this out also, but it is interesting how the k688 just worked like that out of the box. That may sort of objectively imply the k688 is too shaped and therefore inaccurate, however, what matters most is the subjective listening experience. Plus the built in shock mount, usb / xlr option, and controls for under $100 it's kind of amazing.
When I was a kid I had those block toys. What a last from the past.

Love this! I do love the natural sound of the K669D and how it sounds EQ’D out of box and ready to go. Mind you, these are all raw sounds!
Yeah honestly compared to all the others it sounds bad

You should have added the FiFine AM8 in the line up.
Totally should have, but I gave the one I had away. I’m getting a white one soon, so it should be returning back to reviews!
@@DarkenedCyrus The white AM8 looks so clean.

Yes! Check my recent videos. I just did one about a month ago!
Ended buying the k688 too after watching Brandon’s video! What are your thoughts about your purchase so far?
100% a great purchase

@@DarkenedCyrus the k688 is tempting too. But I'm not sure about editing audio and things, don't even know what eq means let alone doing it hahaha
