  • Hello everyone,
    In this video I am going to be installing a Voltmeter and Dual USB charging ports on my 2003 Honda VFR800 VTEC
    It is pretty straightforward and made easier by using a small adapter plate that I purchased for the installation.
    The plate can now be purchased on eBay at the following link
    www.ebay.co.uk...
    The manufacturing of these plates is sublime and the fitment is perfect as you will see in the video.
    Voltmeter on eBay here - www.ebay.co.uk...
    USB Ports on eBay here - www.ebay.co.uk...
    LED Rocker switch on eBay here - www.ebay.co.uk...
    Inline fuse holder on eBay here - www.ebay.co.uk...
    New connector block on eBay here - www.ebay.co.uk...
    For the cable, I just used wire that I had left over from other projects.

    I hope that you enjoyed this video.

    Great content mate! I've been wanting to do this for ages. This got me thinking how useful it'd be if manufacturers just had a voltage display on their digital clusters from the get go. Seeing the voltage is so useful for catching any issues with the battery or charging system before they leave you stranded. Great mod!

      It's a very good point mate, it's all down to cost I guess. I believe that cars and bikes are designed by engineers and built by accountants so there's so much stuff that gets binned at the design stage by those holding the purse strings!

      Aprilia used to have a voltage display on there digital clusters.
      On the right hand screen.
      I had a Falco for a while and it was useful when restarting it after a period of being sat.

    very nice..I think the addition of a collar washer around the key insert would perfect it, as by raising the Hiss unit the thickness of the bracket, it leaves a small gap..but nice job.

    Hi Kev I’ve done the R and R mod and the accessory plate, Just to let you know there was no need for a switch as in the left over connector block off the R and R there is an ignition feed, so when the ignition is off so are the accessories, good job though 👍

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, but I wanted the ability to have mine off if I wanted. The Black/white wire in the connector is ignition switched although the cable is pretty thin so I’d recommend running it through a relay. 👌🏻

      Just clarify for me is this the black/white wire in the block, along with the 2 red/white and the 2 greens, i also am halfway through fitting one of kevs RR so wanna fit the bracket, voltmeter and usb sockets (with a relay) supplied by adey reynolds from fb group whilst all the plastics are off, was pondering using it as the switched live, any advice would be useful👍

    • @c4lvgcbcb

      @@PlexusJohn us a test light or a volt meter to find the ignition feed, turn the key so the ignition is on test the wires and then switch the ignition off, see which wire is ignition feed and hey presto, I never used a relay but that is up to you but I did use an inline fuse, I hope this helps .

    10amp fuse is probably way too highly rated. That 10amp is a 12v rating. The 2.1 and 1 amp of the usb connector is at 5v.
    Piv so 10 x 12 = 120w
    3.1 x 5 = 15w
    I = p/v = 15/12 = 1.25A.
    You need a 2A or 3A fuse in that thing.

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    If you are using anything that claims to be "weather proof" or "water proof" and mounting them in a horizontal orientation...my advice is to drill or notch a small hole at the bottom rear of the units where the connection terminals are located...these are for water drainage...I have found that this is the most water proof end of these units and that only makes these units malfunction and or quit working all together sooner...because they will as soon as a drop of water leaks through the face...that's why they almost always offer them for sale in pairs, because you'll need the spare soon enough... if anyone has found a reliable and truly water resistant or water resilient please let me know...

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes absolutely, from memory, there is 2 permanent lives and 2 grounds in that socket, but I believe that post 06 models have a slightly different wiring config. You can take a live feed from the socket but on my bike it wasn’t ignition switched bud 👌🏻

      Hi, thanks for watching, if you have upgraded you R/R to the MOSFET FH020AA like I have (check out my other videos on this if you haven't already seen them) then you can wire it in exactly the same. If you don't wish to use a switch like I did to turn on the meter and USB ports then you can use the Black and white cable in the same connector as it is a switched live. It is a much smaller diameter cable however so I would advise to use a relay if you wish to go down that route. If you are still using the OEM R/R then you can pull a switched live from many places such as the fan switch or headlights. 👍

    looks great...... would that bracket fit a Gen 5?

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will fit any later model Gen 5 that has the HISS sensor around the ignition, other wise, the only option you have to use this bracket is to retrofit the HISS top yoke. I would imagine that you will find these fairly cheaply though! Good luck with the search! 👍🤓

    Hi mine seems to be charging at 15v is that ok???

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is that measured with a multimeter or at the display on your bracket? 15V is a little high.

      @@KevsShed Hi Kev with a multimeter at battery 14.9 i have rerouted the signal wire to a switched live now I get 14.6 at 5000 revs. No burnt or corroded connections. The bike is 2005 with 10,000 on the clock. Do you think I should look at the upgrade :) or follow your vids to check r/r stator?

    Hello Kev,
    Hope you are in good health and good spirit.
    I would like to ask you, the source plug for the
    volt meter and usb th-cam.com/video/gzJ4GXt6bCA/w-d-xo.html
    From where is getting electricity, because as I see it,
    It's like you haven't attached it to the alternator.
    Can you explain a bit more in details, so I make a
    more clear understanding, from where exactly are drawing power.
    Perfect video.
    Regards,
    Emil

      Hi Emil, I have connected it to the connector that was left behind by the original rectifier when I upgraded it. 👌

      @@KevsShed Hello Kev, thanks for the quick reply.
      As I'm with the stock rectifier, could you suggest how to connect mine ?

    • @KevsShed
      @KevsShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@em3ata You could wire it direct to the battery via a relay buddy, that would probably be the most effective way.
