Great content mate! I've been wanting to do this for ages. This got me thinking how useful it'd be if manufacturers just had a voltage display on their digital clusters from the get go. Seeing the voltage is so useful for catching any issues with the battery or charging system before they leave you stranded. Great mod!
It's a very good point mate, it's all down to cost I guess. I believe that cars and bikes are designed by engineers and built by accountants so there's so much stuff that gets binned at the design stage by those holding the purse strings!
Aprilia used to have a voltage display on there digital clusters. On the right hand screen. I had a Falco for a while and it was useful when restarting it after a period of being sat.
I also bought one of these plates from Andy, but still not got around to fitting it, so watching this has eliminated any guess work on my part, so that's a bonus
Thanks as always Kev, that's a really neat idea. I have already added a usb charger and volt meter in different locations, but you can never have too many USB points 👍🏻
very nice..I think the addition of a collar washer around the key insert would perfect it, as by raising the Hiss unit the thickness of the bracket, it leaves a small gap..but nice job.
Hi Kev I’ve done the R and R mod and the accessory plate, Just to let you know there was no need for a switch as in the left over connector block off the R and R there is an ignition feed, so when the ignition is off so are the accessories, good job though 👍
Correct, but I wanted the ability to have mine off if I wanted. The Black/white wire in the connector is ignition switched although the cable is pretty thin so I’d recommend running it through a relay. 👌🏻
Just clarify for me is this the black/white wire in the block, along with the 2 red/white and the 2 greens, i also am halfway through fitting one of kevs RR so wanna fit the bracket, voltmeter and usb sockets (with a relay) supplied by adey reynolds from fb group whilst all the plastics are off, was pondering using it as the switched live, any advice would be useful👍

Great video, thanks for making this. Can I ask what gauge wire you have used? I intend to take a live feed from the license plate light so that I've only got power when ignition is on. Thanks!
If I recall correctly, I used 16 Gauge wire for this. Mainly because that is what I had knocking about in the shed! I wouldn't advise going any smaller than 18 gauge though.
10amp fuse is probably way too highly rated. That 10amp is a 12v rating. The 2.1 and 1 amp of the usb connector is at 5v. Piv so 10 x 12 = 120w 3.1 x 5 = 15w I = p/v = 15/12 = 1.25A. You need a 2A or 3A fuse in that thing.
Hey Kev, thanks again for the videos they're awesome and inpirational. I'm planning on installing a voltmeter and acc socket as well. Just wondering if I would be able to tap into one of the unused reg/rec terminals in order to use switched power and a relay? If so which wire would I use?
Yes absolutely, from memory, there is 2 permanent lives and 2 grounds in that socket, but I believe that post 06 models have a slightly different wiring config. You can take a live feed from the socket but on my bike it wasn’t ignition switched bud 👌🏻
Hey bud, it’ll work with any 5th gen as long as it has the HISS sensor. If you look at the link in the description, the guy selling them also can supply the looms too! 👍🏻
hi kev. I enjoy watching all your videos. You really love doing this job. I have a question. I have a 2013 vfr 800x. I want to install fog lights. Is there a simple connection method you can suggest to me? thank you.
Hi, thanks for watching, if you have upgraded you R/R to the MOSFET FH020AA like I have (check out my other videos on this if you haven't already seen them) then you can wire it in exactly the same. If you don't wish to use a switch like I did to turn on the meter and USB ports then you can use the Black and white cable in the same connector as it is a switched live. It is a much smaller diameter cable however so I would advise to use a relay if you wish to go down that route. If you are still using the OEM R/R then you can pull a switched live from many places such as the fan switch or headlights. 👍
