Saving this video for future reference. I'm going to overhaul all of our family's bug out bags shortly and will take this into account. I just rebuilt our vehicle's get home bag and was glad to use a modular approach.

Yea these look like an excellent solution, upgrading my bag in the next few months so will look into it too. Very useful specifically for tools, I only wonder if the bags will provide enough airflow for water filters to dry out, if so it would be incredible for them too, there again, you could let your filters dry before placing them back in the bags.

When Vanquest sent you all those color coding kits you were very generous to do some give a ways. I was one of the lucky recipients. I plan on using that system again with some of these bags to reduce and slim down my BOB! Can't wait for your next videos and thanks again for the color coding kit!

Good idea. I have been doing this for several years now. I use a combination of back-to-school pencil/pen bags, bank bags, canvas bags, and camera bags as well. I also began to buy kitchen storage containers that have a rubber gasket and clamp shut for different electronic or battery items. I usually buy them through Wal-Mart (office supplies or crafts dept.), stores such as Ross for boxes, and local thrift stores. I use them to organize both my portable tool boxes and tool bags. I also use them to organize my "roadside survival bag" as well as the cubes for my clothes travel bag.

I just use gallon or two gallon ziplock bags. And some things I’ve vacuumed sealed. Thinking about inserting a piece of color paper with a label in the bag. I like your zipper bags. Just think they will become heavy as well. Tfs!

I don't know why I thought this was an older video, but wow! Organization is so critical, and these suggestions should slim down those pudgy Bug Out Bags of old!
My EDC includes a small Get Home Bag, and I have tried to reduce excessive duplication over my various bags, so the real trick is to be able to distribute the necessary stuff over multiple units:
    Get Home Bag
    Bug Out Bag
    Vehicle Bug Out Tote
Since Bugging In is probably the best way to go, it's good to plan for staying home, but given the events of the past year, it never hurts to prepare for never going home again.

Great ideas thank you. I opted for heavy duty clear large plastic zip locks. fit for boiling water an they stand up on the base like we've seen with certain water filters. Can see all the contents and they pack beautifully in my bag. I've a family too, but I'm carrying the weight... I'm at 10kgs and I weigh 80kg or so. It's the maximum I'm comfortable with as I'm surrounded by mountains.

I have been using this system together with your color or prepping several years ever since I saw GQ prepped use an orange one for a car kit he put together. I saw all the different colors at Walmart and got them for each of my family bags.
The issue I find is that I there’s no real way to organize the modules well in my bags and everything falls to the bottom of the get home and BOBs. I think its better in theory than in practice. But I still use it. Recently I came up with the idea after seeing some video reviews by you and others of how some maxpedition modules Velcro to the inside of the bag.
It has started me thinking about adding Velcro to some of the heavier and maybe less used items and sticking it to the inside with the heavier items towards the top and closer to the body. I’m just looking for some free time to start experimenting. But its still nice to look in the bag and know whats what. BTW love your vids.

I love the color coded organization tip and it helps tremendously when we backpack/hike. I don’t use zippered bags, but love the Osprey dry bags and Sea to Summit Ultra sil dry bags. I keep a variety of sizes and colors. Extremely light weight and waterproof! Yes, waterproof, not water resistant. Pricey, but durable and reusable.

I have been working on streamlining my bug out bag. I find that when I started prepping, i found a lot of websites and videos that seemed to be more INCH bags than BOBs. They reccomend including practically everything but the kitchen sink. As I have been prepping longer, I look at what I put in and whether it's an absolute necessity for a bugout situation only. Also, up until recently I was a caregiver for my elderly father and had to think about prepping for a bugout situation where he would be with me. Now I am prepping for myself only.

I’m totally pro organizing the contents of my bag and also using the different colors, it just makes it easier and faster to find the things you need quickly. Over the past months I’ve been getting more and more into lightweight backpacking as I’m planning a thru hike, but I’m tiny which limits my ability to carry heavy weights.
I can recommend Dyneema (cuban fiber) bags. They’re extremely lightweight and available in lots of different colors nowadays as well. They’re also fully waterproof and extremely sturdy. More expensive, but they’ll last you for years. You’d be surprised how much weight you can safe when switching out all the different storage bags.
Everything I’m learning on the UL backpacking I apply to my BOB as well as there’s a big overlap between the two.

I use a P-Touch labeler with their industrial strength adhesive labels to mark my Klein bags and it has worked great on Seal Line bags. Not sure how the label
will hold up on the canvas bags, time will tell. I also use Plastic Key Tags Keychain Tags with a key ring to label my bags. You can get 150 for $10 on Amazon.

I used to use the pencil pouches too like you did at the start and I have been looking for really good decent pouch so I'm really glad that you shared this video. A tool pouch like that is definitely made to last and take kind of a beating with tools being in it so it should last a lot longer with some of the items we put in them.

Check out the Magpul bags like that. They're friggin' awesome. Almost (and probably) submersibly water proof, with ykk zippers. I was going to put my kits in them, as opposed to the heavy emt/organization pouches I had them in (weighing in at 10 lbs, just the pouches themselves), but ended up doing something different. I have one of the magpul pouches I used to see if my kits would fit in them, and I love it. I keep it in that water bladder pocket in my Rush 12 (or MOAB 10), for important paperwork, receipts, and keep a little notepad in there. I love it. Planning to get the next size or two up, for maps.

Heavy duty money type bags are available in thrift stores as are different sizes of ladies makeup bags that are given as a free gift with purchase. I bought 3 makeup bags for food storage, so each days food are modular. I use the heavy duty cash bags for tools in the truck that I use to help people on the road. I also buy cheapo headlights and flash lights at Wallyworld to give away to those motorists I help on the road.

For my BOB I use 7 different shades of olive drab. lol I couldn't use those zippered bags because I prefer bags just large enough for the contents, I also prefer the bags to be somewhat the shape of the contents, it would drive me nuts to have a chunky object inside of a flat bag. I do like your videos on organizing.
