    About Cheerleader and Germany: We have something similar in some parts of germany, at least it reminds me about cheerleading.
    Every City, Town and whatever which has a "Karneval-Tradition" has also "Funkemariechen". It's not about sports, but they do similar acrobatics and wear extreme short skirts etc

    The "classic hydrant" (Überflurhydrant) can only be used in warm regions because they would freeze at low temperatures. But in my childhood in Germany I also saw several Überflurhydrants. According to German Wikipedia they still seem to be used here.

    • @lillikonig68
      @lillikonig68 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      No, that's not right.
      In the past, there were only above-ground hydrants in Germany that were no more likely to freeze in winter than the underground hydrants. Only after connecting the hose and pumping does the extinguishing water reach the upper area.
      According to the cold justification, there should be no above-ground hydrants in northern America.
      The reason why people have switched to underground hydrants is, on the one hand, for safety reasons and to save space.
      The hydrants are not damaged in the event of an accident. And the space is freed up that would otherwise be permanently occupied by the fire hydrant.

    Regarding "Gridgirls" (ladies holding umbrellas for race riders, being scantily dressed while doing so) - they are no longer a thing in racing events. Most racing events don't have them any longer or replaced them with young men and women in just normal corporate sportsgear, indicating the racing team accordingly. Toned down for the same reasons we look sceptically at chearleaders.

    Re: fire hydrants
    It is less about better for fighting fire and more about being better for Germany.
    For one the subterran fire hydrants do not freeze over and do require much less mechanical wizardry to ensure that.
    They also won't fall victim to some car or truck or whatever.
    It is much more about the time the fire hydrant is not used than about the time it is being used.
    Also, the German variant is of course better.
    Kidding aside, I think the German version is just another case of German infrastructure being more ...I do not know if "sophisticated" is the right word, but I would put the subterran fire hydrant in the same category as the ground cables instead of cable on wooden poles. Germany spends more on putting its infrastructure underground so it is less vulnerable to bad weather.

    • @calise8783
      @calise8783 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I grew up in New England and the above ground hydrant on the corner of our garden never froze over even in well blow freezing temps. I lived there 20 years. I don’t think that is the reason.

    • @voiceinthewilderness7596
      @voiceinthewilderness7596 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@calise8783 You can build the hydrants so they do not freeze over.
      You basically put a mostly hollow, empty hydrant above ground which only gets flooded when you are using it.
      But that is more expensive already than a simple filled hydrant which would react quite badly to cold.
      Germany just went on step further and did away with the fixed hydrants for mobile ones stashed on fire trucks.
      de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrant#/media/Datei:Hydrantenaufbau_schmatisch.svg
      Above is a link to a schematic for both a proper "dry" hydrant, which would be immune to the cold, and a Standrohr/Unterflur/subterran hydrant.
      As you can see what is beneath the ground is basically identical.

    Oh, Hayley, I would hardly agree that you were being a Karen. Karens are excessively _demanding_ women who complain out of a fondness for their own _voice._ What you were doing, there, was demonstrating a little awareness of and appreciation for local laws and an understanding of basic ecology.
    No, don't mess with alligators, because any given alligator has probably _been_ there for a while and will probably be there for a while _yet,_ and anything you do might change that alligator's behavior toward human beings in the _future._ That makes it _everyone's_ business.

    The Überflurhydrants are also used in Germany. As a former firefighter i used both. The version "below ground" = Unterflur / Above ground = Überflur. The type that we used in my hometown was the Fallmantel version Link: de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:Ueberflurhydrant_fallmantel.jpg

    Why should one know symbols ment for fire fighters? It has absolutly no implication for normal people, unlike in US.
    It's in the middle of the street so nobody is ever parking on it.
    And it looks nicer ( invisible) . Of course access takes 30 seconds more in germany, but that's accepted.

    These German cheerleading arguments are crazy. I mean they aren't forced to do it, right? And so far that I understand to a lot of girls it's a great accomplishment, which they are working hard for. Really, sometimes I wished my people would cool down once in a while

    • @MarenLehmkuhl-h2c
      @MarenLehmkuhl-h2c 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I never understood the concept of cheer leaders. What is their purpose? I think most Germans think they are distracting from the main purpose, the game. In Germany and Europe political correctness is a big thing. Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes it’s too much, so what. Feminist groups complain all the time about the exploitation of women, that is the result.
      Long story short, we do not appreciate cheer leaders generally though they turn up at basketball games and also at American football games in Germany, at least I have seen them years ago.

    • @karl-heinzbrohme5890
      @karl-heinzbrohme5890 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's not a German argument and it's not only about cheerleaders. Throughout many sport events there are no barely dressed girls as decoration anymore, but men, too. In "normal" clothing.

    • @robert48719
      @robert48719 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@karl-heinzbrohme5890 I don't know. I really don't care about cheerleader. I just thought in America it seems to be a "normal" thing. It might be sexist, maybe. But if that's what some girls are heading for: live and let live , man

    • @annamc3947
      @annamc3947 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is sexist and American feminists have lobbied against them too. Over time greater emphasis has been put on cheerleaders’ athletic and dance abilities rather than sexuality.

  • @johnlabus7359
    @johnlabus7359 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    At the collegiate level, both men and women participate in cheerleading and it's more competitive and "wholesome". At the pro sports level cheerleading becomes more sexualized and objectification of women. This exists too at the collegiate level but it's more related to university dance teams.
