    I have a son with Down syndrome.
    he goes to a normal kindergarten. he is happy there and very popular.
    I receive a fixed amount every month from the nursing care fund because of his developmental delay. I also get paid for my private babysitter for evenings and weekends.
    Therapies and doctor visits are of course also covered.
    Medicines and aids (buggies, special beds, chairs, car seats) are also paid for by the Keankenkasse if you need them.
    Accompaniment for kindergarten can also be requested. (we don't need one, but just the possibility gives you a reassuring feeling)
    My son has a disability. But so far I have had the feeling that our life was therefore restricted in any way. not at all.

    When you said americans water-down who they are to be palatable for others? That hit me so hard.... I'm Vietnamese and it took over 20 years before i felt free to like what i like out loud. That's true freedom. I hid or cowered when school acquaintances said they saw my family's wedding in my frotnt yard.. wearing traditional clothing. Friends said my house smelled bad. I never ever talked about beef noodle soup/pho or ate fried fish or fish sauce in front of others. Vietnamese culture is so cool but i didnt want to be different as a kid. Get this- sriracha has been used by Vietnamese with their pho since the 80s! I knew a cool thing 30 years before it became mainstream!

    I am definitely one of the ones who loves working while also having a sense of security. My soul craves to be in Ireland, but the realistic side of me wants to be in Germany because of the safety net Germany has for its citizens. I'm glad you learned healthy boundaries with work and are sticking to them! Dealing with the offices for official paperwork and appointments will be annoying, but everything else about Germany just seems amazing.
    Also, I love hearing your opinions

    In Germany you are proud to have leant a job3 years or more from a master and that you know all the background of your job. In the US you are proud to have learnt all by yourself.

    • @rich-ard-style6996
      @rich-ard-style6996 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      What does that mean? You learn by your self too what a master is showing to teach and learn by the best standards and by rules that are proven to work in Germany. I have to live in America and I found that you have to watch those people who work for you, bc the AMERICANS love to make short cuts. They promise you to do everything, you turn your back and trust them. In two decades it had been that way to often. Quality is not an American thing in my view. And pricing is dishonest many times for the value of the work has been done. There were at least 50 % of those people who acted like that. In Germany you have to learn and study the standard with the supporting system in school and at work or the institution. After that you do not have to pay anybody after the examen and the time 2 to 3 1/2 years depending on the chosen profession. And you get a small salary while you are learning, too. In America the education is mostly a few month and expensive the school, if you being an apprentice , and studying is a big fortune. I personally do see Americans could do much better for the general population and young people. To many talents are wasted due to that bc those who cannot effort that are left behind with bad paid jobs. And one more good thing people can do in Germany if they didn't finish high-school successfully, they can go for free to evening classes and study further for free to get a better education that they can use to study for a better job. In America everything is too expensive. You all have too much GREEN colored figures in your mind. It is only 1% rich people and 99% average people. An imbalance that could not be greater.

  • @Kristina_S-O
    @Kristina_S-O 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    That last topic - Germany is 20% American - may be true for Bavaria, but not so much for the rest of the country. 😂
    The Americans' view on Germany was influenced by their soldiers being stationed in Bavaria after WWII until now. Dirndl, Oktoberfest and Bretzn... But the American presence has also worked the other way.
    When I came back to Hamburg after my exchange year in California back in 1987, I couldn't find a KFC or Pizza Hut anywhere within 250 km. It had to be either West Berlin or Bavaria.
    I do admit that tourism and globalisation has done it's work everywhere but no place is as "American" as Bavaria.

    • @HayleyAlexis
      @HayleyAlexis  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      There are almost 6 KFCs in the general Hamburg vicinity. There are 5 in the general Munich vicinity.

      @@HayleyAlexis Hamburg is a little larger than Munich, and as I said, that was over 30 years ago. Of course today those fast food chains (and other American stores) can be found all over Germany. I still think the American influence is more visible in Bavaria than anywhere else. It's where the US tourists go, isn't it?

  • @RustyDust101
    @RustyDust101 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Umm, not wanting to be a downer but yes, the USA CONSTANTLY has mass shootings as per the definition. During 2023 the USA had well over 400 mass shootings, but only the big ones were reported in the media.
    That means on average more than one per day. That's pretty much the perfect definition of "constantly".
    Sure, the USA is huge, so it's still not super likely to be caught up in a mass shooting. But it is still a massively bigger chance than in Europe.

  • @rairei
    @rairei 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Hope Austrians see it the same way, but from your Munich + South Bavarian pov: I feel the same way 🙂
    My experience for Bavaria: English is often well included + Starbucks, McDonalds + all the others. But recently: French menue card in a restaurant .. mostly not available ... yeah, there is some similar things between USA + Bavaria or Germany in general but I guess: Biergarten are quite different 😉 (sorry for your pain)

      @@MydieLy Yes, you can't enter into a US-BASE of the Military in Germany unless you have a spouse in the military or someone related that gives you a day pass to be there. In the 1980s when my dad was stationed here there was no gates in the housing area that changed drastically. I can't wait to leave this place. My sister's made it home in civil but very mentally harmed. I have to stay strong. I am not sugar coating a thing on this. It is not healthy to put a us-citizen child into a German school system, based on how grown Germans look at the American attitude and lifestyle. I do not think a child should be put through hell for being a us-citizen there is no prom, no very special school events and in America we have a very good school system that is sadly changing a bit but still children are more free in creativity in America then In Germany where they silently destroy the child because for just simply being a us-citizen.

    When it comes to your kids and to have free quality time it is😢 almost impossible. Why???bc they come home in the mid-afternoon and come home with a ton of homework ; it takes them HOURS to finish. It is ridiculous. They have barely time to go outside and to play. When children are that long in school they should not be kept from
    going outside but should have done their homework in school and have time to recover from school and relax. I have been volunteering several years in school and in classes. I got to know it. Compared to Germany, the children came home earlier. Had no cafeteria, ate at home, did their homework AND had time left. The other thing is children were not every year to have new classmates. They were together for the years in the same class in elementary school, what changes every two years were the teachers. So friendship could be developed in school. Friendships (my impression) are very loosy goosy in America. Not to compare with friendships made in Germany who seem to me more carrying and longer lasting. They meet more often on a regular basis and invite each other more often. But considering how life in America is, it is usually understandable, that people have so little time for that, when they have to work two or maybe three jobs to stay alive and afloat. And woman have a lot of driving to do for their children to bring them to classes and clubs outside the school to support their talents in sports or music or whatsoever there is. Because there are not Transportation Systems as in Europe and Germany that children use to commute in-depend; and afternoons are short and driving them around and then home to make dinner and so on. The distances from home to grocery stores and stores and doctors are far from each other, a lot of time gets lost on the roads and those big groceries, parking lots before you get to what you need and want. A lot of valuable time for nicer things and things you want to do is not left, but what you have to do. It is just a rushing through the days to get things done and a lot of tv time running aside, bc cultural is not much to do in most places or they are to far away.

    What you felt would be like "being in the US" - i would call it the big city syndrome. Almost everywhere in the world big cities are following some equal paths, especially if they are pretty "new". So only old big cities, with no earlier destruction can have that different flair. Like Paris, London, Amsterdam, Vienna, Rome, etc. Else a big City has in its center same kind of scrapers, shopping centers somewhere some green, a lot of lanes for cars etc. so they are pretty the same kind.
    Culture is such a strange thing for Germany, because every child is drilled not to be proud of the country because of WW2, we allow everybody to be proud where he is from, who he is, only we are not allowed to be proud of our own long history because of the time of WW2. Even me, who is now in his mid 50s, with an half american dad and a half french mom (yes i am a total mixture), who had absolutely nothing to do with WW2, but raised in Germany was told in school that we as "Germans" have to be award of the guilt this country has done to the world. That impacts the society and more the government until today, even in the knowledge that Germany is more than WW2, especially today. But everything is related to "what will the others think about that". Of course that impact has also some good in it - the country tried to be the best, safest and most social place in the world and still be economical strong. That brought some really good things to the country, but where is light, there is shadow. Not everyone likes that. We are living in peace for almost 80 Years now, that leaves a lot of place for thinking about pretty stupid things.

      Well, it's probably related to how car-centric America is. You literally need a car to get anywhere due to the way their cities are laid out - everyone lives in a suburb and there's nothing in walking distance. Sidewalks are non-existent in many places, the streets are so wide that you could land airplanes on them and public transportation is a joke.
      So if you have a disability that makes it hard to navigate or limits your movement radius, you'd basically be trapped inside your home in America, unless you'd be living in some kind of gated community that caters to your needs. But those are 1.) expensive and 2.) you'd essentially pay money to live in a ghetto, separated from the rest of society.
