This was wonderful! We attended Independent Pres when we lived there (just two blocks away on E. Perry St and Orleans Sq!), and the architecture is just stunning! The history of the original congregation is wonderful as well. I'd been inside St. John's maybe once or twice, and it is gorgeous. I am a Reformed Presbyterian, but I so appreciate the beauty of the artwork throughout a French Gothic style catholic church and love to sit in a pew and just absorb the talent and skill of the artists and builders. The iconography was developed in ancient times before most people could read - but they understood pictures and that helped them understand and remember the stories and messages. It was a good idea that became corrupted as parishioners started to worship the images rather than God. That was why the Protestants did away with all that decor, to focus on the message, as you pointed out. I do hope you'll do another video of more churches, including Temple Mickve Israel, and possibly one of the historic black churches as well.
The lectern is NOT for the lay readers, who read from the pulpit whence the celebrant preaches, but is actually for the cantor, who leads the congregation in the responsorial songs. - A Cathedral parishioner
Thank you for telling me about your walking tour videos today. I am very impressed and so pleased with your informative program about our beloved city. I’ll watch them all. My hometown, but you have taught me much. Thank you.
I have been in St. John the Baptist Cathedral several times but you pointed out many aspects that I have overlooked. The next trip should be interesting. Thanks for the informative video!
Lovely informative lecture..I think I'll convert to Calvinism-Presbyterianism...lol..a lovely church ..architecturally, it's the Church Style that seems functional, practical and most sober...the staircase in the front, the side 2nd floor seating,, the clear-glass windows....a very good use of space and sensible approach in my eyes that resonates with me....Keep on trucking..I learned a lot in this lecture..Thanks for Sharing..
I wish you’d been able to include the congregation of Mickey Israel Temple... also historic. Love your videos. So happy SCAD has and continues to save my beautiful birthplace.
Fortunately, it has a large downtown area so that the many tourists at any given time are pretty spread out (except on the waterfront) and adjacent areas are blossoming, especially the Bull Street corridor south of Forsyth Park, offering more opportunities to enjoy the city as a local.
Thank you for doing the video so I’ve been wanting to go to Savannah for a long time. Of course with Covid you can’t go anywhere. And I love architecture.
Very interesting and informative. Dr.Robin did a fairly good job but some details of the religion itself, was incorrect. The talks of the architecture was wonderful - Thank You!
It may seem like a small point, but a “crucifix” must have a “corpus” on it. A “cross” doesn’t have a corpus. So the pulpit of the Baptist church has a cross, not a crucifix on it. Take care and great work.
Thank you for the positive feedback. I wish I had more time to do more, but I hope to -- and of other places (or do you mean other places in Savannah?).
HELLO DOCTOR WILLIAMS, I ENJOY YOUR TOURS. I WISH YOU COULD DO ONE IN LOWER MANHATTAN WHERE I LIVE. WHERE DO YOU BUY YOUR BEAUTIFUL SUITS AND TIES FROM? THEY REALLY STAND OUT AND THE COLORS ARE PERFECT. DO YOU LIVE IN GEORGIA? THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK IT IS WELL DONE. LAWRENCE JOSEPH JENZEN
@@urbantraces9640 Hi, let me know when you want to donate your suits pants, underwear socks shoes. I would love to have them. here is very expensive for stuff
It doesn't matter upon your or other churches you enter. That real to what you take to God and live daily of visits. Daily or weakly inside as a member or as a visitor
@@urbantraces9640 these churches are on another level - a level i've never seen. And the whole empty niches in wall was so interesting knowing all other christians would place a statue or some type of fiugure there. Sometimes emptyness says more than fullness, and you know those spaces make a statemnet since they were built into the wall to be empty.

Wish i could give you 100 Thumbs Up...All your videos are fantastic for neophytes
Feliz Navidad
Thank you for the kind words.
That bird was making a gorgeous sound!

Thank you for the correction.
I have really enjoyed your work. Please send us more!! Thank you.
Gorgeous Catholic Church.

Nice seeing you too! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I didn't know Savannah is your home town.
VERY VERY GOOD. WELL DONE. THANKS. VERY KNOWLEDGABLE AND ARTICULATE

This is very good work. Finally someone in Savannah acknowledges not every columned structure is Greek Revival! You know Roman from Greek. Good job!
Do you now the difference of Greek and Roman architecture??
I LOVE THIS INFORMATION. HI ROBIN, YOU LOOK SO WELL DRESSED. WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE DESIGNER FOR SUITS AND TIES?

This has been so interesting! Thank you from Texas.
Your videos really are such a fabulous discovery. I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying them. I can't wait to devour more. Thank you so much.
It's always great to hear that they are being enjoyed.
Thank you from Myrtle Beach, S.C. I have learned so much.
I wish you’d been able to include the congregation of Mickey Israel Temple... also historic. Love your videos. So happy SCAD has and continues to save my beautiful birthplace.
There are so many houses of worship deserving of attention. Maybe in the future I can make another video expanding to such others.
I love the history and architecture buildings of Savannah.
I have spent time in all of these churches. 🥰
I've enjoyed these videos. Savannah is a very special place. Too bad is collapsing under the weight of its own popularity.,

Thanks! A tour without the effort.
Hello...❤😊
Very interesting and informative. Dr.Robin did a fairly good job but some details of the religion itself, was incorrect. The talks of the architecture was wonderful - Thank You!
Please don't hesitate to let me know what details were incorrect. Feel free to post here or send me a message to rwilliam@scad.edu.
I was hoping to see inside the Greek Orthodox church as well. Maybe in a future video?

Thank you for pointing out that distinction! Clearly I wasn't aware of it, but will be sure to be more accurate moving forward.
Your good at these consider doing more other places. Your whole vibe look and tone pace is perfect

Thank you. My wife finds them at Goodwill. She has a sharp eye and can tell just by looking at one that it will fit.

there's a whole lot of links between Savannah and Boston
Yes indeed. Savannah historically was connected with the Northeast while Charleston was connected more with the Caribbean.

u should redue this video when you can get in those churches
I agree -- at least for First Baptist.

Those are temples of the Greek Gods..Why dont you mention that????
That was certainly a concern of some in the 19th century who saw Gothic as a truly Christian architecture. Thank you for your comment.
