Jere - Hey, your part came out exceptionally well, and the 'engine turned' surfaces are a real visual plus! I really liked the clever steel strips with strong magnets you used to hold the parts together. I've never seen that done before, and it worked perfectly for this part. Of course, the only reason your part and mine mated so well is because of the finely-crafted and accurately-shaped hammerform you made. Without that, it would have been a fool's errand to have two craftsmen try to make parts that fit together with any precision. I also loved your radically-modified sanding discs. I can see they are superb for tight inside curves! All the best, and I hope the weather cools down so you can work more comfortably!
Ron - I thought I responded to this last week but I see this morning that I hadn't. Had a nice long talk with Bruce yesterday. Will be talking to you shortly. The heat has subsided but will return Thursday. Jere
Two masters of their craft. Age and experience are to be respected and appreciated. God bless both of you men. Americans, you should be proud of both of these men. They are your national treasures.
Jere and Ron, Your combined work on producing separate halves to this complex curved component demonstrates your incredible craftsmanship and knowledge. Each episode has been a joy to watch and learn from - your differing fabrication approaches has been explained and demonstrated so clearly. Being unfamiliar with sheet metal work , your joint collaboration the shared passion for your craft and it’s promotion has been a wonderful eye opener for me and once again allows me to fully appreciate others who have incredible attention to detail and are such expert makers!!! Thank you so much for sharing your incredible skills!!!! Jeff (in England)
Thanks Randy. It was nice working with Ron on such a difficult piece. Now I will have to design a car that it will fit. Can't let this thing go to waste. Jere
Excellent!!!! Amazing that two men separated by who knows how many miles can make the same thing only mirrored!!! And it fits so well!!! I Am Not Worthy, Master!!!! Keep Rocking it out!!!
Hey Pat: Both the top and the bottom were made from the same hammer form. They fit together so well because the both of us have experience making parts the same. Anyone can make a single piece but making the second one the same is very difficult. Thanks. The heat has kept my rocking to a minimum. Jere
Hey Jere, you aren't kidding about the weather....had to work the cows out here in the valley (south sacramento) in the damn heat to bring them closer to home......no rain no grass....no need to have them roaming so much since I have to throw hay early this year. Loved the collaboration, really helps a guy who gets his equipment banged back together and back out on the job again.
I couldn't find Blue Lenses so I made blue plexiglass lenses sandwiched with a # 5 welding lens, that killed that bright orange glow so I could see while welding. Great Video THANKS
Definitely enjoyed the series. Thanks for sharing the clever tips on how to modify the sanding discs for flat and curved surfaces. Came out beautiful. I know all about the heat being here in the Phoenix area. It sure can wipe you out in a hurry. Take care….. Joel
Hi Joel: Thank heavens it's cooling down to the 80's and I can get back to the shop. In the late 60's I worked at Bill Watkins Ford in Scottsdale AZ. I still remember the heat and the flash floods. Jere
Great work, Jere. I enjoyed the series. Sorry, but I wasn't that "amazed" at the fit between the parts made by two different people... considering the two people were you and Ron Covell! I would have expected little other than a good fit. Talent and expertise causes that sort of thing, ya know. ;) I was duly impressed though. Good luck with the extreme heat. Joe
I'm glad that your heat wave is over. I'm on the East coast of Canada. We've had stupid high humidity here for too long and anything over 70F when the humidity 95% or higher is just "dad-gummed sticky-ish". And when it's been 90F with 100% humidity it's enough to melt the eye-balls out of a statue. Those right there are o-fficial meteorological terms. Looking forward to your next video. Cheers
Hi JB, Thanks a lot for watching. It was a lot of fun working with Ron on this project. I think both parts came out beautifully even though they were made with entirely different methods. Jere
This was an absolutely awesome series and collaboration with Ron Covell!!! I learned a ton from you guys! Hopefully, you guys will do more collaborations in the future. I’m a new subscriber and found your channel through Ron’s...so glad I did! 👍 One question...what was the name of the small welding torch you used and where could I go to purchase one? It seems like you would have a lot of control with a torch like that as well as possibly save a lot of gas!
Collin, Thank you. Ron and I had a lot of fun doing this one. The torch is a Cobra torch (now called a DHC 2000). They are sold through Aircraft Spruce or you can look them up as DHC 2000 and see if you can find them cheaper. Jere

The best part of this collaboration for me has been the introduction to your wonderful channel. The part ain't too shabby either!

I have thoroughly enjoyed this project.
Working with Ron made it enjoyable for me also.

Thanks for showing that this sort of complex rounded shape can be produced without a die and a press. That said, it was a heckuva lot of work!
Hi John. It was difficult but enjoyable.
Thanks for watching. Jere
You are a real artist. You make it look so easy!!
Hi Dave:
Blachsmithing has greatly added to my forming skills. A miss hit can ruin a piece that has taken hours to form.

Glad you liked the series. Jere

Glad you got to finish the co-project and beat the heat. Thanks.
Hi Tony:
The heat wave is almost over. Expected hi today is only 86deg.
Thanks for watching. Jere
loved the star shaped grinding disc, cant wait to try it out
Hello Adam:
You will be pleased at how well it will follow an inside curve.
Jere
Jere great build and video production…like the sanding disc tips….
Hi Chuck:
Thanks. You can see the forming of the piece (with a rivet gun) in part 3.
I'm enjoying looking through your catalog of videos.

Thanks for blessing us with your combine wisdom, experience, and know how.
Thanks Jeff: My pleasure.

Awesome work Jere. Much love 🧡
Hello Deena. Making the same part in two different ways was difficult but fun working with Ron.

@@jerekirkpatrick2092 I really enjoyed watching you and Ron working together. You are two true gentlemen 🧡
Nicely done as usual

That is BEAUTIFUL, I love it 😃😃.
Making one part two different ways was challenging but fun.

"For grinding curved surfaces" ...thanks for explaining. I was wondering why you were messing up your discs, lol.
Cutting them that way allows them to flex and follow the curve.

Hi Larry.
Lots of time with a torch in hand. I bought my first welding set when I was 14.

Any special lens for gas welding aluminum? Ron Fournier sold a lens for Al
Hi Anthony. Yes there is. You need a pair that will remove the sodium flare that is produced by the flux.

They are so good they made it look easy! It’s not.
It took making a lot of scrap and many many years to make it look easy.
