The doubles specialists, it really is like watching a whole another sport. The angles, the short volleys, the lobs and smashes from any part of the court. These guys are super good at what they are doing. But I also love it when single players play doubles, it’s quite a different look.

We didn't even know Koolhoof existed before the pairing with Tsitsipas and their run to the final of Miami. Look at him now! GS champ, ATP Finals, multiple Masters 1000 champ. Top-5 doubles player in the world for the past 3 years or so and keeps getting better.
His reflexes are insane. Doubles really have become so fast paced these days. Compare that with a decade ago. Brian brothers would have really needed to step up their game to make a dent in this generation. I can see the evolution continuing. Doubles is no longer an afterthought but becoming 'professional' so to say.
I think Wes is retiring this year, such as shame
@@tallisinwonderland4724 DIdn't know that! It's a shame indeed. I see no reason for him to retire while in his peak. But ofc he knows best.
@@jay_kulina Yes he wants to spend more time with his family. I would approach this differently, it is very rare that you are able to win so many tournaments, I would stay on it until you can't make it to the finals of 1000s or GS anymore. A whole lifetime ahead of you after this anyway.
@@astonm.8173 Yeah, me too! Get as much money as you can while getting is as good as it is for him right now. It's not like he has earned life-retiring money just yet. Doubles aint paying as much as singles. Not even close. Should he keep performing like this, he could double his earned money in 3 years-time. And then, if he starts declining, it's just fine to retire at 37-38. But if he(and his family) thinks he's got enough, who are we to say otherwise?

I guess doubles are less tiresome and exhausting than the singles. So, less entertaining. The points are relatively shorter as you play on the net often. By the way, best singles players usually prove to be competitive doubles players, but the reverse is barely the case. There are so many other reasons.

I think some falling out. Their results in 2023 were abysmal in the big tournaments and they dropped in rankings hard. They split halfway I believe.

According to Dutch news (so idk if it was the whole truth), it was a decision of Koolhof's team to move on with a different partner. I mean, their results after Wimbledon weren't always stellar.
