If you had played the outro you would have seen that Tarzan was his favorite childhood Disney character, so he that’s why he wanted to sing this song. I think you might be surprised by the softer side of Dan. He’s got tons of hard rock and metal, but not everything needs to be fireworks. Try The Last Goodbye or Loch Lomond for another side of Dan, or The Music of the Night or Gethsemane for musical theater scenes, or even Nessun Dorma for an opera aria. You can’t put Dan in a box. Great examples of metalized versions of non-metal songs, if that’s your preference, are Seal’s A Kiss from a Rose (a duet), or Adele’s Rolling in the Deep, or any of the Witcher covers, especially Burn Butcher Burn. (originally sung by Donny Osmond) I'm not sure by what you mean about this being 5 years old so that means Dan was "testing the waters." He started his TH-cam channel and started doing covers in 2010. Five years in he was a seasoned, classically trained artist.
Dan gives us his version of a song. You lose and miss something when you project and wait for what you want it to be versus the beauty of what he’s giving us. Phil Collins was not in a metal genre so I wouldn’t have expected this to be. Dan did a beautiful job.

This one i definitely could not hear as a metalsong, simply because of the way of the melodyline.
