Daniel, they work fine for me, but to your point you could glue some old bike inner tube to the bottom using double side carpet tape, like I've used is some of my other videos to provide more traction, a couple of layers of gaffers tape in key spots would also work but might also wear out faster than the inner tube.
If you put the lids back on and spray a rubber coating on the bottom like flex seal it would give you more traction. The lid would give you more area than just the ring of the bucket. Im gonna have to try this.
Yes, as someone who is "slightly" heavier than 170, I am curious about this. Also wonder if adding a cover would reinforce them without causing some traction issues?
zillarer, these buckets are still going strong, and they are designed to take a lot of weight, I'm just appyling the force of the outside, vice the inside. They are 5 gallon buckets so 22.73 liters.
Wait this is brilliant. And if you want them taller just get more buckets and step into them! e: I should have waited for the end but yeah, I think actually putting the buckets inside each other would provide a lot more stability even if you’re sacrificing height added for the weight.
Waluigi, up hill depending on the angle you're probably okay, up stairs would be pretty tricky unless you we're holding onto the railing. Never tried going up stair but you're make me curious, I'll have to try it.
You're welcome, good luck with yours and be safe. I developed a double stack version that was twice as tall but didn't like have they might tip over for some people so never posted the video...
Omg this is so cool and I can’t whait to try this for my costume I was trying something like this earlier but I had trouble with the fact they were hollow and I’ve been trying to figure out how to fill them so you blew my mind and let me dumb struck when you put a lid on one😂thansk and great vid
Ted, they are fun, I've been working on a double stack design as a follow up but the additional height is a bit more tricky. Be careful out there and have fun. Let me know how they work out for you.
using buckets is beyond genius. I came here knowing how to make stilts (out of wood) but interested in what people designed to give them grip on say a hardwood floor.. and buckets solve all the problems.
IMO, duct taping shoes to the buckets is good enough, don't even need to waste the buckets. This is easier to use than wiggling around standing on one bucket, where you can jump off if you fall. This one you don't need any practice, just go slow and don't fall.
How do you duct tape the shoes to the bucket? Do you put your foot in shoes first and then start wrapping duct tape around the entire bucket? How much duct tape is needed? From the toes to the tongue of the shoe? Im trying to do something like this for a grim reaper costume. I can't walk on stilts
Brilliant! Your design will hopefully keep me from breaking my leg.
Vickie, no guarantees, but hopefully it will work safely for you.
Great design! Quick question, how are these on hardwood or non-carpet floor surfaces? Is it slippery or any traction? Any tips for best traction

@@MakeItorBreakItNow thank you. Will work well for my future costume 👍

I was looking for something for my Groot cosplay, this should work perfectly but I'll keep you updated. These will put my tall ass almost 8ft tall.
wolfwatcher25, best of luck, and be safe. Look forward to your update.
Thank you!!!! Going to make a pair right now so I can finish painting a high wall :)
Good luck, and be careful working with these. I also made a double stack version, but fell off of that one so leary about posting.
AWESOME!!! About how much weight would you say these hold? I'll take the recommendation you have about the quarter inch plywood.
Serve You, thanks. I weigh around 170 lbs, I'd say they could hold well over 200 especially with the reinforced plywood.
Stay tuned for the double bucket version, I have a prototype but want to make it a bit safer before I post.
Yes, as someone who is "slightly" heavier than 170, I am curious about this. Also wonder if adding a cover would reinforce them without causing some traction issues?
I weigh 324 and they held pretty well but I think a little reinforcement can never hurt
Look safer than stilts, so I think I'm going to give this a shot. THANKS for sharing!
Wey, good luck and enjoy, but be safe out there, gravity can be tough...
how many litres are these buckets? i’m looking into making stilts like these for a cosplay but i’m nervous they’ll break lol
zillarer, these buckets are still going strong, and they are designed to take a lot of weight, I'm just appyling the force of the outside, vice the inside. They are 5 gallon buckets so 22.73 liters.
@@MakeItorBreakItNow thanks! i was looking for the size since i need to find similar buckets and i’m glad they’re sturdy
@@zillarer look forward to hear how your build turns out.
5 gallons buddy
I need this for my Lady Dimitrescu Cosplay lol
Kiwi Parade, how did you cosplay turn out?
depends on the quality of the bucket. if the wall starts to bend in you might be done.
True, but used these for a long time and not had that problem yet...
OMG I LOVE YOU!
Thanks, these are a lot of fun. Just be careful using them...

I've tried making double deckers, and although they worked I did fall once, so need a bit more work to do on that version, before I'd post it...
How well do you say these could walk up hills and stairs. I have a costume idea and I live in a Hilly neighborhood
Waluigi, up hill depending on the angle you're probably okay, up stairs would be pretty tricky unless you we're holding onto the railing. Never tried going up stair but you're make me curious, I'll have to try it.
Dumb question, but if your using bolts inside the shoes, don't they dig into your feet?
Nope, I put the insole over them.
So crazy, so simple, it's almost certainly going to work!! Perfect for painting and cutting-in ceilings, FAST!!! Perfect thank you.

You saved me 100$+, cheers.
Eddie, you're welcome. Glad my video saved you money.
VERY COOL
Thanks Eli.
Did you ever do the doubles?
I have, and fell during one of the test runs, so working on a calf support to better stablize the walking. Stay tuned.
That's fun. :D
BrickHabitat Productions, They are great fun. Thanks for the comment.
why pay 200 for stilts when you have this legend
Looper Tooper, maybe so. Legend, wow, thanks.

Glad to hear my design idea helped you out. Be careful using them.
@@MakeItorBreakItNow yea I have good balance, my design would have been a lot worse. so your buckets are adding extra safety lmao
Im a taper, I dont wanna buy stilts, I need these. Making one for next job
good luck, and be safe.
I made them. They are awesome. They work
Thanks for the feedback, working on perfecting the double stack. Stay tune for that version, coming soon.

Duct taping shoes to a bucket, interesting. Do you just take gobs of tape and stick it to the soul of your shoe? Thanks for shareing.

Jesse, exactly, or painting and working on lights as is my case. Thanks for your suggestion.
This ia amazing tbh stilt cost al lot thx man
You're welcome, I still have a lot of fun with mine. I've been working on a double bucket version...
Thanks for your vids. I like your dance! My 2 cents is to attach some wheels on, you'll move faster, as time is $. Thank me later!
Great tip! But that would take the danger factor up significantly!
@@MakeItorBreakItNow you know it's a joke right?
@@KAMEJOKOband yes, of course, that's why I responded with one of my own. 😉

MJPlays, give a shot, but be safe out there particularly with a long drape.
@@MakeItorBreakItNow i did it for halloween and i thank you so much for this vid it helped me a lot and i also won the costum contest
@@BIG.SCREENS. wow, congratulations, you really took this design to the next level. Is you costume posted anywhere?
OMG 😍💋 💝💖❤️
Kenneth, thanks for your comment. These stilts were a lot of fun to put together and use. Stay tuned for Phase II.
Perhaps a more abrasive edge to counter slipage and a couple of swing out from under you arms kickstands with handles to catch your falls.
good ideas, the vinyl pipe on the bottom seems to get rid of most of the slip. Technique and practice is also a big factor.
Just stop. Please stop hehe
djexclusivee, It sounds like you're laughing. Then the video achieved its objective.
