    Holy MOLY. I think I finally figured out how to do my costume. I have a 1/6 action figure that's very detailed and every piece of armor can come off. When watching this video a light bulb went off in my head. What if I put the aluminum foil and duct tape over the toys pieces of armor, and then take those mini template pieces and buy a overhead projector and do what is basically done in the video. This might work.

      Holly if you ever get this or read this, I do not want to take your time or be a bother, but it would mean the world to me if you read this or comment to this! It would blow my mind! So hey! I am a 13 year old boy who is an aspiring cosplay artist. The only experience I've had with cosplay is your videos and a Finn costume I have. Feeling lonely, I know it's strange that a boy out of today's generic generation of early teens would dream of cosplaying, and I'm okay with that. But my problem is money, time, and skill. I live in Washington so buying tickets to cons would be rough for me, I have little to no experience with tools and costume making, and my working spaces are tiny and cluttered. Do you have any tips on what I can do to pick up my act and begin a hopeful living dream of cosplaying? Again, if you even read this, I would jump through the roof! Thank you for all your videos too!

    I love your tutorials! Always clear, concise, and with amazing tips! And a great collab with the amazing and talented Holly!!
    I hope this tip can help some people too. Projectors can skew images so the top is bigger than the bottom. If this concerns you, add a grid to the background and check that the squares in each corner of the image are the same size and square on the projected image. If they aren't you can try moving the projector up or down, changing the angle, or adjusting the keystone setting for computer projectors. Most libraries or schools, at least where I'm from, will let you use a projector, or even a computer projector, for free.

    Watching this get made was just as, if not more, amazing as watching the final product in a action. I have a soft spot for "prototype-y" looking things, so I loved seeing the assembled form with all the measurements and the labeling. That just about made my day. Thank you Evil Ted.

    This video is perfect for a costume I am trying to make. One question I have is - where does the weight of the costume rest on her? Is it her arms holding it up and the foam around the arm holes bearing the weight? If I have a costume where my head is along the top of the foam, won't it bend and bow around where the foam is resting on my head - and would that eventually deform the costume?
    Thanks for all your videos, definitely a subscriber now. :)

    Ted - what type of foam did you use for this? It looks like upholstery foam, but what cell density? I'm looking at making a polar bear mascot for my kids school and I want to make sure it will hold its shape without being crazy hot!

      Dan Clavel Yes, it's 1" 1/2 upholstery foam. I find that all mascot outfits are crazy hot!

    Can you do more armor? Like female armor, that doesn't really hug the body so much. Maybe knight armor or something like that

    Is she strapped into it with a backpack or does it just kind of rest on her shoulders or so?

    • @EvilTedSmith
      @EvilTedSmith  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe that it just sat on her shoulders, because it was just foam.

    Need to make a similar shape for a costume so this video is super helpful in figuring out how to go about it, did have a quick question though. In the video there are 3 template pieces that are cut out to be the stencil, but it looked like there was more than 3 pieces of foam in the assembly phase. How many pieces of foam were used to re-create the bean? Having trouble visualizing how it all came together.

      singingawolfsongI know you can get one at Hobby Lobby (just search for EZ Tracer Projector) for about 40 bucks. Amazon has a bunch, but most of them are expensiv.e You also have the option to plug your computer into most of those if you have something you designed on there.

    I used an overhead projector when I wanted to take a pencil rubbing of a Chinese dragon off of a pewter mug that belonged to my grandfather and transfer it to the wall in my bedroom. It ended up about four feet long and came out nicely. Can you still get those things?

      I'm going with your suggestion. I'm going to have to glue the mats together first, as the sides for the AT ST are a little longer that 25 inches. After I glue it and cut my side, can I then use a heat gun on the eva foam, to seal it after gluing two big pieces together?
