    tolles Video, schön dass du auch die Nachteile so heraushebst. Oft ist es ja so dass man sich ein teures Teil kauft und dann ganz enttäuscht ist,dass nicht sofort supertolle Bilder rauskommen. :)

    The arachnid at 8:30 isn't actually a spider, but from a different group of arachnids, closely related to the scorpions, called "Opiliones" or harvestmen. The easiest way to tell is in harvestmen the cephalothorax (head region) and thorax (booty region) are smushed into one blob, whereas in spiders they are two distinct body segments. Harvestmen also only have two eyes, while spiders typically have a lot more eyes. If you're in the dark an opilione also fluoresces under UV.

    Thanks for your test & review. I was actually wondering what is the performance of the Laowa lens in photography. :-)

    what about trying this on the Canon R5 with IBIS, that might make it less shaky ?

    • @anotherperspective3076

      Yes, the footage I have taken with my sony a7r4 were a little bit better. When filming at 100fps and slowing it down the footage looke quite ok. But for photos the lens is just not sharp enough (if you want to crop in post)

    Another thought, why not get some of your translucent plastic and make a diffuser for the lights around the lens, just to soften them a bit. You could draw around the lens to get the outer size, add a couple of tabs (2 or 4) so that you can bend these over and stick them with tape to the end of the lens and remember to make a hole in the middle so you can see through. I don't know it this will work but i just sat here and was thinking of how you could make those lights less harsh.

    • @anotherperspective3076
      @anotherperspective3076  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean like a think plastic ring which only covers the LEDs? Thats actually a nice idea, I hope the diffuser willnot be visible because the lens is pretty wide. But I will try that!;) If that is really that simple... and if it really works you should sell your idea to venus optics😄

    Well, this is the sickest lens which you can buy... even though I would also not use it for macro "photography"; great review

    I have this lens (I was the lucky first backer on the kickstarter for it and got it for ~£100 including shipping and taxes) and I've found it to be very sharp, but there are quite a few qualifiers for that. Hand-held without any kind of support at the end of the lens is as good as pointless. The slightest movements translate to severe shake. Even on a tripod it can shake significantly from the vibrations of someone walking in the general vicinity. I've been able to get some really good results on my 16MP X-T1, even slightly cropped, but only when the end of the lens is given sufficient support and in a controlled environment. I agree that the ring-led is way too harsh as well. I'm a big fan of weird lenses and cameras, and this is certainly a strange one, but I don't think I'll be keeping it. Especially as I don't have any real interest in the videography side of things which is what it was really designed for.

    • @anotherperspective3076
      @anotherperspective3076  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No way!!! Congratz for that😃 Yeah it is super hard to handle, even on my motorized slider, when I walk around the room, I can delete the footage afterwards (or use warp stab. in premiere). How do you "support" your lens? I have seen some adapters on the internet which are mounted to the top to stabilize it, but I have not tested them yet.

      @@anotherperspective3076 I've been using either another person's hand as an extra rest near the front of the lens as you can see in the reflection of this frog's eye: i.imgur.com/DhnThbA.jpg, or more recently this: smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B074PQFDS5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's designed more for telephoto lenses so it's not perfect, but it gives it a bit more rigidity and I don't need another person on hand.

    Hi, spring is slowly comming so I was thinking about macro lens and thank to you and your video, I choose Nikkor Z f/2.8 105 mm MC lens instead of Laowa probe lens.

  • @diatomsaus

    Yeah the small aperture is a big problem for stills, this is inherent to such "relay optics" designs. High MP sensors have diffraction kick in at around F8-F11, F14... yep I do expect the softness.
    It's suitable for video work, it works well for 4k, the front is water proof. You can jam it into a nest of fireants or various (not harmful!!) liquids.
    That said, they have a 2.6x lens that suitable for medium format, it will be announced soon.

    I think you managed to get some pretty incredible shots with it. And I liked the weird circular eye shine. Like a runway model bug! But indeed, your Sony takes higher quality macro. The tube lenses is for special applications!

      Just as a comparison... the resolution of the thumbnail is 0,6 Megapixel (also croped from 24MP)... and still looks better than 24MP images with the Loawa...:D

    Using 4K@120fps or 1080@240fps on a7S III should smoothen the shakes drastically.

    High priced, specialized lens, for unique shooting conditions and perspectives (like inside bottle and underwater) that other general purpose macro lenses are not designed for. Best for looking “inside” stuff. You adapt to the lens - not the other way around. IMHO that’s the key. Like the book and bottle shots that are part of the promo. Can you turn off the LED and just use your flash - perhaps a bit of hand-held might be possible using that method? At least the lens “case” is special😁.

    • @anotherperspective3076
      @anotherperspective3076  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Somehow I had expected that a 1700 Euro lens would be sharp anyway...:D But yes, this is very special, which is fine, but I don't understand why they praise it as easy&great photo lens... The flash/flash-diffuser setup brought only average image quality, I think I could try this again with off-camera-flash or use the pringles tubes as light tunnel

    This is not a lens for hand holding. Look at how far the distance is between the end of the lens and where it meets the camera. You really just need to use the right tripod with macro rails. And yeah, you need some great lighting. This is definitely more for video.
