      the GOAL should be , not to create Marine waste is the FIRST place.

    • @davestagner
      @davestagner 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      It’s amazing progress, but it’s also just a drop in the bucket. That’s 200 metric tons. There are over two MILLION metric tons of waste in the GPGP! Right now, it feels more like learning than making a tremendous change, but learning is very important. This is also where I break hard with the people who say “Well, we should just stop polluting in the first place”. Yeah, but it’s ALREADY THERE. And at the rate things are going, we’ll double it in another couple of decades. Think we can just stop putting plastic in the oceans in a mere two decades? I don’t. It’s not enough to be better in the future. We need to clean up the past (and present) as well. I feel the same about CO2… we have to go beyond “carbon neutral” and get to “carbon negative” in order to undo the damage. So working on carbon capture NOW is important, even if we’re still producing CO2.

      @@markplott4820 True about mapping using drones. What I find fascinating in my own cleanup efforts is the groupings of certain like minded trash collecting in there own areas.
      For example: I find plastic bottles with plastic bottles. Styrofoam with Styrofoam… etc
      and everything has flushed into the stormwater system at different locations likely miles apart from each other.
      It seems The Ocean Cleanup finds more marine debris at these Ocean garbage patches then land based trash. The land based trash seems to blow back on shore in a lot of cases.
      That is what I find 🤔

    LOVE OCEAN CLEANUP!!! LOVE: Learning about the systems, watching the haul drop down on the deck, watching/hearing the brain power at work, ALL the video (from underwater, the air-THANKS DAN and team!), the future plans, etc. Knowing that it's more than collecting the garbage, but action towards a full circle solution. Your team of exceptional humans make me SO proud, starting with Boyan. To see how you all developed and continually improve your magnificent designs, shows just how brilliant the team is! The partnerships with the different sectors reflects on the teams ability to not only focus on the obvious, cleaning up the ocean, but to understand and take action for the future of disposing/recycling plastics. Ocean Cleanup makes it easy for the layman to follow, understand and then to WANT to take the little steps we all can take to help our environment. Ocean Cleanup just launched 007 at Ballona Creek in Los Angeles. I visit as often after a storm as possible. First haul was awesome! Wish there are real time camera access to see if it's working. Dan? Looking forward to more videos on 007! Looking forward to ALL new videos, keep 'em coming! THANKS OCEAN CLEANUP!!! 🥰😇🥰

Massively admire the initiative but feel like it's orders of magnitude off. The intercepters are a phenomenal addition, they should be obligatory in all the polluting country's.

    Hello, I see every video of yours and I am so happy that it keeps getting better. If System 003 works next year, you won't have much space on the ships to store the plastic. Now the next step would be to learn from the ship industry again, as you have done before. In this case, to process the catch on the ship. Means in the long term to produce two or one own ship, where there is a sorting plant and a shredder under the roof. Then you don't have any granules yet, but you do have very small parts, which you can then stow away easily, so there is hardly any air in the gaps and you are sorted by type, which results in significantly better prices when selling. It can probably even be sorted by color.

There should not be water bottles there in the first place and as faster we remove it from the ocean as faster ocean animals can recover.
