    Hi,
Hungarian guy here. Not a native speaker so sorry for my english.
I remember getting hooked on Stargate SG-1 when I was around 12 years old in 1999. I started watching from the beginning of S02. Then when the final episod of S02 aired in hungary the tv channel went bankrupt or I dont know exactly what happend but they disappeared. I didnt know anyting about tv series. I mean they had seasons and etc. I am saying this because the final episode was a cliffhanger of course and I was like... where is the next episode? :D A few years passed when another TV channel continue broadcasting the series with season3 but I was watching it in hungarian dub... so after few years it had another translation team and the voic actors also changed..... so it was not the same. I started watching it in englis from s03.
So all I say is this :D Back then I couldnt even imagine that I would watch a podcast with the actors and producers of one of my favourite TV show. This show shaped my childhood, my personality. It had a huge impact on my childhood.
So thank you for making these interviews and also thank to the actors and a producers and everyone who were involved making the show.

which suposed reboot are you speaking of?
because if you are talking about continuing SGU i would agree that it needs to be continued.
unless you are talking about the stargate origins, that reboot i don't think is any good or workable.

there are 2 things that i would love to personally see. an story arch of the ascended during the events of sg1 and sga and or dig deeper into the past of the alteran history when they first left the Ori galaxy and how they came to be where they ended up in the end.
perhaps in sequence of one another shows. where one is showing the ancient past of the alteran when they were on the run from the Ori galaxy and the events leading up to the ascended modern day journey.
because the show never really dipped into the reasons why the ascended did what they did except that they didn't interfere with the lower planes. we kind of understand their fundamental reasons for doing so like the example of Anubis and the idea behind the Ori gaining power from the lower planes while being ascended, but don't have a complete full understanding or picture on why other restrictions exist or how they maintain these things.
i don't understand why they didn't take advantage of the moment when we used Merlin's weapon to also destroy Anubis. because fighting Anubis in eternal combat sounds more like an band-aide on that situation.
they gave Daniel a choice to descend but this was also done with the exception of his memory being wiped, of course it was partially done by Oma i would assume because he got it back partially as well.
they could just as easily descend Anubis and wipe his memory and also kill him if needs be. but this plot was avoided completely for some reason. we don't know if an ascended has to choose to ascend or if they could be forced into ascending. so it could be written in the script to be explained, there are a lot of little things such as this that could further expand on this idea of information.

i didn't watch discovery because i heard early on what they were planning to do with their series.
and i would strongly protest against them if they decided to write a show like that if they go that rout.
when i was talking about the Anubis bit. i was thinking they would send him through the supergate only to be destroyed on the other side when marlins weapon activated.
but the other idea of forcing him to be human or an symbote without any of his ascended memories intact would have been the better idea. because as i said eternal combat was a stupid plot. i mean does this mean Adria is still an ascended, and is she in eternal combat with morgan le fey?
because as far as we know she cannot be destroyed as an ascended being herself.
i also wonder if they can extract her knowledge and power, i mean the ark did this by programming the priors into knowing the truth which was used to program the population of the truth of the Ori which made her weaker. but did she still have all the knowledge of the Ori when ascended? we know the power was transferred, but what about the knowledge?
this might be the reason why they keep Anubis around, but that's just my speculation.

      @@chronosschiron
hmn...well that's an interesting idea that i would agree with. i mean i know he's on this planet, but also at the same time he's supposedly locked in eternal combat with Oma de sala.
i had an idea like yours once before, but it was fresh on my mind when they stranded him on the planet.
but i also remembered Anubis could also float in space as he descended to earth when his ship was destroyed. and maybe there is life on that planet underground i mean. or he could find some kind of creature that has no problem with the cold on that planet and use it as a host.
so many ideas floating around my head right now.

Proof of the quality of the Stargate franchise: I would rather re-watch Stargate (even though I've seen every episode MANY times) rather than watch 99.9% of any other existing or new tv series. Not only are the episodes still fun to watch for the 50th or 100th time, but they are in a completely different league than 99.9% of anything else. Adding to that, it just happens that the very few tv series that I do watch and like, other than Stargate, have been written or produced by the same people who were involved with creating Stargate (and I did not realize it at first). That says A LOT about the people involved with creating Stargate series.
And I really try to like new tv series that have come about since Stargate, because I love long form, serialized storytelling, and really want something NEW to watch - but most tv series these days are SO BAD, that I would much rather re-watch something I've already seen a hundred times. For instance, I really got invested in the characters and story of TWD in Season 1, but the quality went downhill fast right after Frank Darabont was fired.

    • @teamredshirt

the way you talk tells me you might not have seen the third and fourth season of TWD. If you got turned off by season 2, then go ahead and restart the series, becasue it gets fantastic. then it gets dodgy again. but then back to fantastic.

Finally watched DTG S1E3 and here are my comments on some of the topics
      Twitter Storm
      - I was one of those who didn't find out until after it was done because I was on deployment at the time.
      Reboot
      - Please no reboots. A new series to tie up loose ends and continue the story is ideal.
Keep it current, no future or prequel series
      - Not a fan of these either, just stay with the formula that works and don't wreck it by experimenting. Flashback and flashforward scenes are okay and have been done before.
      Moon base
      - Space 1999 here we come. I like the concept and hope it works.
      D&D
      - this brought back memories of 1986 when I played the first time. Wow!
      Emancipation
      - I would love to hear the writer's comments that David was talking about who changed his mind because even though I don't like this episode, I am open to new information to help me appreciate it.
      Time Travel episodes
      - Normally I cringe at time travel, alternate reality, alternate universe, etc because Star Trek severely abused it, even Gene Roddenberry had second thoughts after he used it the first time. Fortunately Stargate didn't abuse it like Star Trek and hopefully that will be the case in the future and to only use it when all the writers are simply gasping for air because they can't think of anything else.
      Stargate disclosure Stargate Extinction
      - simply put I want to know more about this.
      Sam Jack relationship
      - Coming from a military background, this scenario never interested me because I've seen a lot of these relationships and marriages fall apart or cause extreme stress in the workplace and I felt Stargate didn't need to venture down this road. Personally it wouldn't bother me if they all had families but never saw them because they kept work and family life separate. I did that for 20 years and most people didn't even know I had a family.
      Woolsey
      - I hated his character at first but I loved the way he came around. Not very often you have a bad guy with principles and morals who turns into a good guy with principles and morals adjusted to experience.
      Killing Janet
      - I will never forgive you guys for this.
      Asgard resurrection SGA S6
      - As soon as I saw the bad Asgard this is what I felt was coming around but nope, somebody dropped the ball.
The Genii - I got the feeling they were modeled off the Fidel Castro regime in Cuba.
Anna Grauer scene at beginning of Atlantis - I didn't get the impression they were arguing, I thought they were disappointed they had to go their separate ways because she was infected. Personally if I were him I would've stayed with her, that's just me.
Horses in Gateroom - As spookish as horses are, you would have a hard time trying to get horses near the gate
when activated and next to impossible to walk through that puddle without blindfolding and medicating them to calm them down.
I wanted to ask Joe about the Ascended beings, Others that were in the Ascended Diner that Daniel went to. That gave me the impression there are other "higher beings" than the Aciencts and Ori.
@AngelSpirit asked about Air dates of episodes in chat.
      - The DVDs are in US broadcast order and Wikipedia lists them in order originally broadcasted regardless of country of origin but they do list the Canadian, UK, and US of different airdate episodes in the comments.
      - There is a suggested viewing list on Gateway.com somewhere but I don't have the link nor have I ever seen it but someone mentioned it in chat and I've seen it mentioned on Fandom and Reddit also.
      - For my use I copied the information in Wikipedia into Word and put in US broadcast order. Then for the multi-part episodes when SG-1 and SGA aired concurrently I listed them together before going to the next episode of SG-1 or SGA, depending on what series the multi-part belonged to. Doing this puts everything in perspective and doesn't create any gaps at the end of the seasons these two series ran concurrently.
      - You also have to fit the two SG-1 movies in their correct spot in the timeline as well. "The Ark of Truth" begins after "SG-1 S10:E20 Unending" but before "SGA S3:20 First Strike." "Continuum: begins after "SGA S5:E1 Search and Rescue" and before "SGA S5:E2 The Seed."
David, I love your house as a Stargate museum
, it's something I wanted to do if I ever won the lottery right down to the SGC and Atlantis themed rooms.
@FreeSpirit999 I've got some Furlings of my own to feed and herd on a daily basis so I feel your pain or joy.
David, please tell moderator Ian no hard feelings.😉

the next time your internet starts being shit. when watching youtube, turn your resolution all the way down to 144p. it works great especailly for podcasts on the internet, i do this all the time to reduce my data use and also so when my internet is being crap.
another cool thing to do when the internet is good is download a browser app called brave it's on pc and android, which has a built in adblocker which also helps with internet usage and prevents ads that would use higher resolutions from showing up at all so you can continue to watch the video you are watching.

I have a great idea for a "jumping off point" for a new series, that considers new viewers, and it's something that Stargate has (kind of) already done, in a way: Something like the Daniel Jackson "video series" shown to the new characters in SGU. Actually, an ENTIRE SERIES could be done on this premise, and it could be very interesting, but it doesn't have to be a stand alone series, it could be just a part of the new series, or an "extra" webisode type thing - based on one part of Stargate that everyone loves, the "Indiana Jones" type of episodes where Daniel Jackson and others not only search for artifacts & knowledge, but *provides a way to explain the past (canon) to new viewers.*
This aligns perfectly with the fact that the Stargate story has a lot to do with artifacts, symbols, and the alchemy side of it all. Even though the ancient Egyptian part of Stargate is mostly fiction, it is still interesting and provides the same MEANING as ancient facts in real life. Stargate made learning about geometry, alchemy, ancient Egypt, etc VERY INTERESTING TO ME, it caused me (and I'm sure many others) to learn a lot about these things, because of how it's made so interesting in the series.

We should establish a system where we could send one question per person in advance as we know the announced guests. You could select the most guest relevant or interesting ones as you prepare for the interview while a few ones could be read up from the live chat.

    • @UGLYP1G
      @UGLYP1G 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

The problem with sending in questions in advance is that you won't be able to ask any questions that follows up on something the guest has said earlier in the interview, like if they say something interesting that you'd like them to elaborate on. It also takes away from the whole "interactive" feeling if questions from the chat get ignored, kind of undermines the live stream aspect of it.

    • @Platschu
      @Platschu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@UGLYP1G Well, you are right. When the channel will have a weekly routine then everything will go even easier as they get more experience.
I knew that Joe won't be allowed to talk about anything as he is a producer and writer, so he has to maintain his pokerface even under fan pressure. Everbody is excited about the potential 4th series, but it is a top secret project, so he can't confirm character relationships, Furlings or any other creative decisions yet.
My original question would have been how he can seperate the job, the inner fan and his private life. I mean he has got a deeper view and expeiences how a show is developed and about casting, writing, props, sets, vfxs, crew needs, shooting episodes, because this is essentially his job. Obviously he has turned into a fan of his own show which is handy as well, but it must be hard when people wants to know you only for extra informations and stories and ask the same things over and over, but they are not interested in the "real" Joe just the "producer Joe". I hope he will be invited back to the next SG writer room and he will stay as the main PR person for the SG franchise.

Cause all of our military and all people can step up at any time and that darker personality quirks come out more the stress, the anger, that normal everyday responses.

    I have a pitch for the fourth series;
The Goa'uld are pretty much reduced to next to nothing. The Asgard gave all their technology to the Tau'ri and
declared them the Fifth Race before ending their own race. Atlantis is neatly parked in the Pacific. The possible
new show should pick up on that.
Here's my ideas for the story (I actually picked up on someone else's idea of Earth being the major power of the
    galaxy and spun from that):
The Tau'ri are now the most powerful faction in the Milky Way, the capital is Atlantis (statues of the most
prominent members of the Expedition situated there). They acquired several formal allies among the minor races
(Tollan remnant, maybe?). The other major factions are the Free Jaffa Nation and the Tok'ra, both non-allied to
the Tau'ri with the Jaffa more friendly. There are understandable tensions between the Jaffa and the Tok'ra.
Minority of the Jaffa reverted back to Goa'uld worship and are mercilessly hunted by the free Jaffa. The Stargate
is made public. Jack O'Neill, Daniel, Sam Carter and Teal'c are now legends (their statues standing proudly in the
Hall of the Stargate) with Teal'c regarded as a living god among the free Jaffa. Samantha Carter Extraterrestrial
Technology Research Institute. Dr. Jackson's Center for Study of Alien Cultures. Minnesota renamed O'Neillia
(maybe not:). Some countries like USA, Russia, China and Germany/EU/German-French Coalition are trying to forge
their own interstellar domains. The matter of the ownership of Atlantis is the subject of a long and heated debate
inside the UN or G7. From time to time there could be an update on the Destiny crew's progress, maybe even an
occasional episode entirely dedicated to it (I'm sure SGU fans would appreciate that).
The show would start with internal problems of the Tau'ri and Jaffa and their uneasy relationship with each other
with the Tok'ra having trouble getting enough voluntary hosts and their tensions with the Jaffa.
Eventually, we would learn the Destiny crew alerted someone powerful to the existence of the Milky Way galaxy and
Tau'ri Confederation (or whatever). These mysterious entities are racing toward Earth presumably with ill
intentions. When they arrive they claim they are being hunted by evil ones. With the introduction of these
pursuers things will get even more interesting. The hunted appear good from the human perspective but evil from
the perspective of the hunters. Both of these are powerful enough to be considered a possible threat to the Milky
Way galaxy or at the very least the Tau'ri Hegemony (or whatever).
Anyway, the least they should do is to honor Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis and at least acknowledge the existence of
    SGU.
And REMEMBER: absolutely NO PREQUEL and definitely NO REBOOT.

I wonder how they would even save destiny: would they try to reach it by ship? Stargate? I believe their is something about destiny's gates being unreachable from a long distance, because they had to produce and deploy them on seed ships in a straight line.
Perhaps using ancient technology to reach it by gate, or construct and send a ship to reinforce the destiny expedition and use it to explore new peoples and galaxies.

I thought Sam/Jack got together when Jack left command of the SGC. I thought that was obvious.

According to the writers and little hints you see throughout the series, they did but it was never made onscreen or obvious so fans who don't watch that closely wouldn't pick up on it. It was supposed to be confirmed clearly in the third Stargate movie that MGM cancelled.

On the point about the Tau'ri being too powerful; not really, because they were still outnumbered. They got a technological edge, but still didn't have the numbers of ships needed to even take on a serious Jaffa attack using a bunch of old Goa'uld Hat'aks. The Shield strength gave them enough power to stick with a fight against superior numbers, but not indefinitely. The Tau'ri needed time to expand their space naval forces.

Prequels can be good. A good example is Better Call Saul, the prequel to Breaking Bad

If you want to get an idea of what that strange pattern within the cosmic microwave background radiation discovered by the Ancients could be, check out this video on Conformal Cyclic Cosmology by PBS Space Time: th-cam.com/video/PC2JOQ7z5L0/w-d-xo.html
Basically, CCC states that to measure time you need mass. But since both at the beginning of the Universe and at the end there was and will be only radiation, there is no time. That means that beginning and end are pretty much identical, i.e. the end of the Universe will give rise to a new one. Theoretically, a highly advanced species could use this to communicate across Universes and this act of communication would manifest as a weird pattern within the cosmic microwave background radiation of the new Universe. At least that's how far I have understood it. It's all based on the works of Roger Penrose and he himself thought it's probably not even true, but it's a cool concept.

In production of new show they should look at the new X files. There was a major problem with the script, but there were many other mistakes. The first thing that strikes everyone is, of course, the overall visual. They tried to make it a modern show, but it didn't work for me as a person who watched the original. Stargate SG1 and Atlantis had their typical, very simple and iconic visual (color palette, camera, etc.). In my opinion, this is something that should not change, because if someone is already used to something, it is not very pleasant for them to adapt to something else ...especially when it is not better done at all. What the new X files also showed is that the show, which was built into a 20 episode series, just doesn't work as a miniseries.
I understand that the creators would like to bring this fourth series to new audiences, but I don't think any of the fans want a completely new thing. Most of the original actors said they would like to return to the series. So, in my opinion, no more characters are needed.
They should just do it the same way it was. It worked and it will continue to work. ...as excellent 10. series of Roseanne.
And one last thing. In my opinion, it is no longer possible to follow up on SGU, as Destiny's crew put themselves into cryosleep, which means that they will not grow old ...but that cannot be said about the actors... So why start with that at all? There are so many unfinished business in the Milky Way and Pegasus that would be much more interesting to solve.

I understand your perspective and your desire... But I honestly can not see that actually working out...
A lot of time had passed, things have changed. They can't just pick up where they left off, or continue on their merry little, light hearted adventures.
And although it seems you weren't a fan of SGU and you want to erase that from existence. I'm addition to the fact that I find your argument against including anything SGU related to be completely invalid and contrived, there were a LOT of Stargate fans who loved SGU.
And while the characters were very flawed and unlikable, the premise of the series was awesome & amazing!
And assuming they came out of stasis as planned, those actors are younger and the aging wouldn't be a big deal. The story would obviously have to pick up in the current day, not where we left off, or even right after they came out of stasis.
Anyway, they definitely need some new blood for a new series! That's just a given, and totally obvious! And I trust that they will create some truly awesome new characters for us to get to know & love!
But they should absolutely maintain a significant ensemble of old, familiar faces in recurring supporting roles.
I also feel that the Destiny should not be the main focus of a new series, but it should not be ignored either!
The fans who were loyal, and who actually DID support the franchise for ALL of the series deserve some answers and closure.
And there is MUCH to learn from the Destiny and all the data she had collected!

stargate universe the best of the three ? eww 🤮
i'll agree that this series had great storytelling elements, the ship's navigations being out of their hands, limited time to explore the different planet, being chased by aliens obsessed with the destiny, all that was good. the final episodes ? they were amazing.
but everything else ? what a dumpster fire... i absolutely hated how everyone was stupid and/or untrustworthy. Rush basically killed people and endangered the whole ship multiple times by being a selfish prick and hiding that he found the bridge. Rather than just venting the atmosphere of the gate room, Everett decides to go bang bang, hereby risking the lives of his entire crew and waste his limited stock of ammo to save the sorry ass of just one guy, resulting in the death of multiple people.
they also just trash the priceless million-year-old shuttles like complete morons, and i'm not talking about all of the engineered drama like the shithead who tries to dial the gate when they are desperately tyring to keep a low profile to hide from the tech-killer drones.
long story short, the whole cast was a fucking train wreck. half of them should have been locked down in there quarters definitely and/or replaced using the stones.

In many ways I though SGU was my favorite of the Stargate series... Although, it doesn't seem right to call it the best when it only ran for 2 seasons. How I do feel that it would've ended up be the best in many ways had it been given the chance to run for 5-6 seasons.
At the same time, I totally agree with everything else you talked about that upset you! Col. Young's failure to eliminate the Lucian Alliance attackers was especially infuriating, and really write irresponsible and unrealistic! Although a few of those characters are critical to later episodes... Malace was one of the best of the series IMO. And Eli's relationship with Gyn was one of my favorite events, even though it was very short lived. At least she was still in the computer...
And I'm stuff that doesn't make any sense. And I don't even know how to explain it at the moment.
But it had to do with how rewarding it was when people finally did do the right thing, or learn to get along, forgive each other, etc.
I also really loved the premise and the Destiny itself tremendously.
Although nearly all of the characters are quite flawed in various ways, we got to know them intimately and it was very rewarding to see them working through their issues, internally and among each other, and generally becoming stronger and growing up, and stepping up & excelling.
