I remember when I first learned about mandatory military service in South Korea I remember thinking how is BTS going to handle that. Because if they all waited until they had to serve it would be 7 years before they would all finish their service and because there ages are pretty evenly split apart there would be no major gap where none of them would be serving. So in my mind I was just like when they do serve I hope they enlist close together at least. And I'm really happy that's what they are doing.

Another thing to note is that BTS are able to write songs and customize their writing to suit members and let everyone shine within the group-because they actually write their own songs. (What a concept!) The main issue with other groups focusing on a singular sound and not evolving, or even a singular look, is rooted in relying on others to write and create content/songs for them to perform. BTS are songwriters and artists and creators ON TOP of being performers, amongst the saturated kpop market with groups that only perform what’s given to them. People can see and feel the difference and it’s why BTS even on hiatus continues to reign.

Reminds me of Take That (my 2nd favourite boyband, and yeah, I know, Gen Z & Americans don't know them). They basically made mostly typical boyband music in the 90's (mostly written by their leader Gary Barlow) and radio friendly music since 2005. On the last album they did with all 5 members it says "All tracks written by Barlow/Donald/Orange/Owen/Williams" (their family names) which is such a flex and I hope the BTS members can do that one day as well.

American fans really care about singers writing their own song. They have always tried to put it as superior trait.
I found that weird and couldn't wrap my head why US fans are so obsessed with this fact.
Then it clicked to it's bcs they r "used to".
I am Indian and majority of songs comes from movies. It's music composer appointed by the movie studio who hier lyrist, singers. So they can be different and there's no pressure of doing everything on your own.
Hence why for me Kpop system of company arranging everything and idols performing it never stood out as something bad or like some say "manufactured".
If grp writers it's own song that's good but even if they don't that's good.

What striked me the most about BTS as a team is their respect for one another. Especially after I read the book that came out 2023 it became so clear to me how much they not only respect but admire each other, without toxic jealousy. When they once reached a cruel time they promised themselves to work hard to keep up being in BTS. I think that shows how they view this, the group, being idols and standing on stage. They do not take it for granted. They see it as an opportunity and a chance to grow. And while doing so they help each other. They know that fans of their solo projects are fans of BTS. they work, even as soloist, in the name of BTS. They have respect towards their own group. A big factor as well had to be that they were rising to the top quite isolated, they had to learn how to rely on one another ...

Something that I also think was different with One Direction was they were thrusted into being a group when they all originally intended on being soloists. They auditioned as soloists for the X-Factor but the only way they would be on the show was if they became a group. Granted they probably did not know how big they would be but I wonder if they were thinking this would be a good platform to launching a solo career down the road if the group does well for a short amount of time. One Direction didn't have the time to bond or struggle, they were thrusted into success from the very beginning of their career. And I don't follow them that closely but do the members even hang out or talk as friends. I don't mean liking an instagram post or attending a concert of another member but are actual friends. Something I've always appreciated about BTS is they don't have to sacrifice their solo careers for the group, they can do both. I know it's a lot of work and I'm sure there are sacrifices made but I love how they make it known BTS comes before their solo careers.

Now they truly love each other and feel bonded for life as a family. They are all incredible soloists, but they work well together, because there's no ego between them. When they're together as a group, they think about the group and not themselves. And when they're solo artists, they support each other's projects and cheer on each other's successes. This environment, where each member knows they can try things out by themselves and be creative without having to make a choice between a solo career or a group, can only work when the members are all on the same page about it though.

This is one of the reasons I really admire BTS as they truly act as one unit and shine when the opportunity presents itself and know that they are stronger as a team than as a soloist and that is another reason for their longevity is the willingness to adapt and learn so they keep growing together with success.

They started very young and even though they were living in small quarters, and they had fights at first, the culture is to have respect for older members the U.S. doesn't have that. They listened to their elder members and soon became a family of brothers, always going to each other for guidance acting as a family and that's just one reason they worked together better. Their respect and a brotherly love did grow and the family that emerged made a difference they also put in longer hours than most, seven days a week sometimes till 3 A.M. but after they came together as a family, they all started working with the same goal in mind. It was one for all as in the three musketeers. When they started getting a small following, they gave credit to their fans and the fans felt their sincerity and Army was born, and they got great strength and encouragement from our support and love for them.
They were always humble and doing their best and they tried not only for themselves but each other, their own families and Army. Also, another thing that made a big difference was that they signed with a smaller agency Hitman and their boss Bang was trying to treat them more as he would a family and tried to do more for them getting them chances that other agencies wouldn't do for their K-pop groups. They were fortunate to have this attention and care from Bang and would say how they appreciated it. He had an eye for what he wanted in his group and handpicked each member because he saw something in each of them and felt that with the right support, they would be special. With that when things were going bad, and it looked like they would have to break up, none of them gave up and left, they just worked even harder.
They all stayed and worked even harder, and they finished school and got their college degrees on top of their heavy load. They are simply amazing because of what each one brought to the table and how they became brothers and a family for life. Their many sacrifices were not in vain they are what they made of themselves, and everything came together as they made it happen and always gave credit to others even though they were the ones who suffered and were hurt and had injuries that might affect them in the future. We will always standby our boys who have lived as men even when so young and become men that we can all be proud of. Everything they have they deserve, and we hope in the future they will meet their soulmate and raise families and a group of new talent should come forth from our young men no longer boys we will always be proud, support them and love them all. Not one over the other but all as they have asked us to do. We will not let those who try to hurt them in any way succeed as long as we are here, we will come to their support. Much love to our men of BTS You were always Destined for greatness. As they will always have our respect and our hearts. Much Love Always. Kim Namjoon!! Kim Soekjin!! Min Yoongi!! Jung Hoseok!! I really think Ch2 has been amazing for all members to expand their flavor and skills, but it really feels like RM & SUGA will be more comfortable letting their singing voices shine and help support the VL. J-Hope already had a strong singing voice and now has some real grit, as well.

Agree so much on this.. Most Kpop group would wait for each turn to go in the military but BTS did it differently. I cried when I found out that 4 of them will go at the same time but I was relieved when I realized that they did this so they can all come back together by June 2025 as they promised their fans.. I mean with their solo achievements, I didnt realize that the younger half of BTS would give up the spotlight they attained this year and would go to the military in the middle of their individual success.. I thought they will buy time but they didn't.. They literally value coming back as early as they can as a group rather than spending more time for their successful solo careers.. Hands down to these 7 boys for treasuring their teamwork, brotherhood , friendship and fans more than their own selves..

Thank you for this because I saw the same interview and he said what he said sounded weird to me. I use to be a huge NSYNC fan back when I was in Middle School and High School. I still listen to their songs now. The thing is though I never learned about them individually who they were or their personalities. It was just not something that crossed my mind. I just liked their music, like most things I listen to. Now with BTS, I have learned so much about them aside from their music. So when I was watching this interview and heard this clip about how they knew their place, etc..I actually really thought about that and BTS. To me, sure at the beginning the members had positions and all that. They did need a starting place. But there is also something that Namjoon said during one of his vlogs at the very beginning, and that was something about how he can't wait for the members to grow and have their own individual success. One of the many things I have come to love that is different than any other group I have seen is that all BTS members support each other as individuals and as a group. They teach each other, they don't think they know everything, they want to see each other grow and learn new things, and they don't try to keep each other down. They also don't fight for the spotlight. They say "ok it's your turn to shine, give it all you got and I am here to back you up." Like Suga not saying anything about his enlistment because he didn't want to take the spotlight from Tae, or Namjoon trying not to take to spotlight from JK at his showcase even though JK wanted him say somethin, and many more examples. I have never seen another group that is as supportive of each other than BTS. But this rambling has gone on too long...haha there is so much more I want to say. But is conclusion BTS is the best!!!💜 APOBANGPO!

Yes I've had this conversation before as an artist. Each member needs space to continually grow and expand so they can bring those new found parts to the group. Ego's kill a group always doing the same thing kills a group. Getting that mix right is hard it's a continual issue that every member has to be aware and some time's that means being willing to step back a bit for the sake of the group while other time's it means stepping out of your comfort zone. You need people you can trust who are willing to listen to each other and willing to try new things without the ego of I'm the best it should be me me me.... and you need those who can say come on I know you can do this we believe in your ability we love and respect you and your art.

Everything in this video is so on point I think the only thing I want to add is that since the very beginning, BTS were already singing about wanting to be exceptional and have a story like no other. That kind of higher purpose, chasing something bigger than themselves, like giving people hope and strenght is something that requires a certain character that simply a lot of people in the industry dont have, thus making BTS stand out from everyone else, year after year. Making them build a foundation as to why their team matters. Cause after everything the've gone through and achieved together, they know and have pride in how special everything they've built is, thats why they constantly reaffirm their reunion in 2025 and their long term goal of keep going for as long as they possibly can. Finally, as we've seeing in chapter 2, they know the importance of individual expression and growth, but yet again, they're all on the same page that its for their team, for a bigger purpose 💜

In addition to the fact that they’ve done such a broad range of genres, are given more creative freedom than most other boy bands/groups, and they have been able to create songs as subunits and as soloists all under the umbrella of “BTS.”

    1. RM is their leader. He's smart, savvy, and he sets the tone for the group. It is a very difficult job; he does it very well.
    2. Bighit got them early and made them live together during training. That kind of bonding doesn't happen overnight; all the kinks and adjustments were worked out over a period of time. I think this is a critical step in them becoming a *family*. I think they see each other as brothers who sing together in a band, rather than a group of individuals who happen to sing together. It was BTS vs the world. It shows.

  • @marshymin613
    @marshymin613 ปีที่แล้ว +20

This is a great video! I also think BTS took brotherhood seriously just as much as teamwork. Whatever one member was struggling with, that became the groups struggle. They didn’t leave that member to go through it alone. It wasn’t only one or two members that helped, it was the whole group that helped. If one member falls, the whole group falls. That’s the mindset. I’m not saying they used that to manipulate or degrade any member. But it took them into a different position regarding this relationship with each other. You can have 7 great talented people but if there is little to no respect between them, for each other as individuals or for the group, then what’s the point? They know they work better together. Many groups in kpop don’t recognize that. It’s because they stick to that narrative and format of strict standards and levels. Only one member is comfortable with doing what they do best and not branching out. It’s like everyone has to have their own little box to be inside of. BTS is more of a circle. There isn’t one side to them. There’s multiple sides. From each member. That’s what makes them unique. That’s what gets people hooked. That’s what drives their success at the end of the day. They know how to bounce off of each other instead of just themselves. All 7 know they’re talented & will get time to shine. But they’re not eager to shine for so long individually as much as they are as a group. Namjoon said “just be Bangtan” before Yet To Come in Busan. He didn’t say “just be yourselves” because that creates division and in-cohesiveness. Bangtan Sonyeondan is more than just a group name. It’s their identity inside and out. They were born to be a team before they were born to be soloists.

They've been around and largely intact since 1993 and are still touring. Technically speaking, they are the most successful boy band of all time in terms of record sales and their records are still successful. I think the individuals are all good vocalists as well and share the spotlight well. The key, I think, is more not to let the egos get in the way of the group. And it shows in the music. As it does for BTS. Of course, BTS is just getting started so I'm looking forward to where they're going from here.

One of the things that first caught my attention with BTS was how smoothly they shifted the center position during their songs. It was like watching a magic trick, the way they'd move into a formation, part for a moment to reveal whoever was singing the melody at that moment, and then move again, and suddenly the focus was on someone else. The entire group looked impressive as hell doing it, but it was also always very clear whose moment it was to shine.
Also, could you imagine anyone else having a solo concert, inviting a member of their group to the stage to perform, and then WALKING OFF THE STAGE to let them do their own solo?

Yeah, the walking off.... many other singers might invite someone to join them, but they'd all stick around on stage while the other performed, because, 'my concert'. I remember a BTS interview where the interviewer asked them, who is the most ...? After a couple of questions, he said, "This one is gonna be hard. Who's the best singer?" He probably thought the singers would fight over who's the best, but of course everyone said JK. 1:57 sound over individually is what set them apart from the begin. The songs needs to be perfect and therefore the members give their voice to the song no matter where their voice is gonna be or how many lines they’re gonna get. It’s all about the song sounding perfectly harmonious. I think that’s part of the reason why it’s hard for other groups to cover their songs. They’re trying too hard to fit everybody in random places of the songs based of their role in the group and not based on what fit their voices best.

I think in the end the rest of the industry will have to do the same if they want longevity. Truly BTS have paved the way in so many ways. 💜

I agree. I think what’s helped them last this long and even longer that other groups is that they learned and realized early on that focusing their energy into their collective goals and not competing with eo gave them better results, especially accepting the fact that they’re all different. There’s respect for eo’s talents and they support and praise eo’s successes and skills.
Another reason why other groups don’t last is bcs, even though they learn to work together for a while, underneath it all there’s a level of jealousy that leads to competition and the individualistic American lifestyle doesn’t help.

If all the members got the same treatment of the industry then you will actually see who is the most successful and all of that , but right now the numbers are really highly manipulated just like the success of BTS in general. Specially cuz of the rappers , cuz they don’t want to get limited creative freedom to just get more media “attention” aka fairness like jks or dynamite or butter.

Can’t say the same about the other members releases, specially Rap line. If the rest of the members got the same fairness as jks , they will got better numbers. And you will see rapline been in R&B / hip hop / rap categories in charts and awards. And they would get playlist on those categories. And media recognition of their incredible lyrics , fusion of sound and creativity. Just like they do 24/7 with TS ( even tho her lyrics are nothing compare to them specially RMs), you won’t just like ON didn’t got number one cuz they “didn’t count” all the data , or life goes on didn’t got any radio play even tho was number one and people were asking for it. I wish I could show this video to soloist fans who believe the members want to separate and shine on their own. I, wholeheartedly, believe that the members have every quality to become big superstars on their own. But the decisions and actions they have taken over the decade in their career show how much they want to be together as BTS. For example, regardless of who suggested the idea of going to ms together (whether it was the company or the members themselves), they did go together. The action ultimately taken by independent capable adults who decided and collectively chose to focus on the band rather than their solo careers (which is doing just as great as their band).
Your video made me remember why I love BTS so much and feel proud as an ARMY. It reminded me of that one time when RM himself said that he is only 5% of BTS. How BTS wouldn't work out as well without his efforts and he wouldn't exist without BTS. This encouraged me a lot in real life, made me learn to value myself, and value others' inputs in a team (which is very hard for me as a perfectionist).

This is what makes me so proud of BTS.
I've known of their existence as soon as there was buzz in America. I wrote them off as another cookie cutter kpop group that was carefully curated with looks and sounds but ultimately cardboard cut out singing whatever they were told. Taught dances by professionals. Im a metalhead, ill admit I was pretty hostile to the kpop scene.
Until I read a book containing a character that reminded me of "this guy I think I know from that band BTC or BTE or something like that.
And it was Jimin. So I watched all runBTS twice before giving in listen to their music. The only reason why, is I found out they produced and wrote most their music. They are provided choreography but ultimately modify it to their liking. Also after a time they were given more autonomy. So all that hard work is mostly on them. The visuals are producers f course
So then I became Army. Against my will. I just respected them so much.
I still don't like kpop. Like most of Army we like BTS not the kpop genre
    That is AMAZINGl
People need to get off Bang Sihyuk's @ss. Without him BTS would've never existed. Making him the silent 8th member. Everyone is fallible so get off his dck..
You cannot deny how important he is and how his genius gathered this ragtag group with a vision.
BangPD nurtured these boys into a literal empire.

I truly believe that the BTS members see each other as their family. I love how you pointed out how they love and support each other regardless of what each is doing. Its also cool how their concerts are a mix of their group numbers interspersed with their own individuals performances. Speaking of which, like how RM had everyone on the stage for the "Old Town Road" Grammy performance, it is not uncommon on individual projects to see cameos of other members in their videos or for the group to perform an individual's song (i.e. at their Muster Swoozoo in 2021 they performed together in both J'Hope's collab with Becky G "Chicken Noodle Soup" and Agust D aka Suga's "Daechwita")

Beautiful, as always. I've been thinking about this a lot too, lately. During Jimin's promotions, an audience started chanting, "Park Jimin!" (sweet)... BUT then Jimin encouraged them chant "BTS" instead!! I mean, who does that?! I also think teamwork is much more valued in Korea than the "rugged individuality" of the West (esp. America). That's why the West KEEPS waiting for them to "break up and go solo". WE think that's progress. Also (as you pointed out) the fact that they started out so lowly; in one small room, in one small company. - They still have that us (including Army!)-against-the-world sort of feel. They also weren't put together on a show one day, recording an album the next day and touring the day after that. They are TRULY bonded. And they ARE a super group at this point. Yay for us!!

I also think it is very important to mention, that BTS has been together for a long time, and in the beginning they lived together. The younger ones like Jungkook and V and Jimin basically grew up in that environment. Jin used to drive JK to school, they were at each others graduations etc. What I mean to say is, that they grew to be much much more than "just" bandmates. The became family, and they care for each other as family does. They will always be there for the successes of each other (which is so very important), for example Jin and JK taking part in Sugas MV Deachwita, visiting each others shoots and bringing food, visiting each others concerts and hyping them up and genuinely enjoying it. Jin getting up in the middle of the night to cook breakfast for V and RM to eat on their penalty hike. They care for each other with their hearts most of all.
I believe that if BTS would stop tomorrow, they will still be with each other until they are old and grey.
I have never seen this lack of ego and genuine care and selflessness in any western group so far. There might be, and I would wish it on them all, but it is something which I have only ever experienced in K-Pop and BTS most of all. They really love each other and are bloody brilliant artists too.

Plenty of other K-pop group I like out there but BTS will always be my number one. I think they work hard at every aspect of their career and also allow each other some space, which is important for growth. And I think they have been together long enough to know each's other differences and respect them. There are those groups who seem to battle each other the whole time they are on stage and I don't even bother with them.

kpop are trained and lived together for years which made them build bonds and trust with each other, as a kpop fan since gradeschool, 2nd gen groups hook me to kpop world and i just got to know BTS during fire era, and they are the first kpop that i truly support because their songs has meaning and some songs has unique sound that i don't hear from other kpop, another factor is their relationship with their ceo, they experienced hardships and and even huge debt after debut but their experiences led to many good songs and their ceo let them fully expressed themselves to create more. i know a lot of kpop who are good as BTS but many factors that made them disband especially when a company does not support the groups like, EXO, 2ne1, seventeen, and many more.

I believe the real reasoning why BTS works is because they are allowed to speak about their frustrations to one and another. I remember BANG PD once said in an interview that if the boys were to fight, they should let it out and resolve their problems together as a group.
So many western groups or even in Kpop don’t work is because they just see their bandmates as just well bandmates, business partners or just close friends not actual Family.

Watching BTS performances when I was a baby ARMY, the thing that caught my attention was how a member is always at the center when they are the ones singing, and this I've never seen before. In each performance that I watched it was always like that, you can see who was singing because they were always at the center, they know who to give the spotlight to, which was amazing because I was able to recognize who was singing what line and it was easier for me to recognize who was who.
One thing that I can commend BTS is for their teamwork. As Jin said before in a youtube show, the members are willing to set aside their own ambitions to prioritise their group, which I think is amazing, while bringing their own unique style (as you said) and incorporating it with their sound.

“With each sound they do they rotate their position in the group” this I degree with this. Regardless if it’s pop, edm, r&b, ballad, rock, etc. JK and Jimin take up the bulk of the lines even if that type of genre and song would’ve fit another member better, and let’s not forget how limited raplines presence is on the songs in the past 4-5 year.
BTS works so well and better than most other groups bcus they love each other, aren’t petty, and aren’t greedy (to an extent) but that doesn’t mean the entire group dynamic is flawless and perfect bcus songs, performances, song keys, line distribution, etc. skew in others favor more often than not.

I think this was an extremely well presented video. The only thing I think I would add is that not only have they happily made way for each member to have their moment to shine without tension or fighting for the top spot; they do not see each other as competitors, but as family that they want to see succeed and they cheer for each other’s success. Being a true family of brothers has made their journey different from other groups. We are so lucky to have had the opportunity to watch them support and uplift each other

I totally agree with your argument. The Members are in awe of each other’s achievements and are genuinely happy for them. They are unselfish- you can see this in JK’s solo performances. What soloist allows their backup dancers to perform individual choreography during a performance? JK has surrounded himself with some of the best dancers in the business and allows them to shine during his music videos and live performances. They all surround themselves with the best performers/artists and are not afraid in allowing them to shine, that generosity puts BTS on a different level.

I think the fact that one direction was just 5 random guys put together and BTS had time to build a family first with a clear goal and one member joining at a time and practicing together and finding out their own strong and weak points and further incorporating that in the creation process and having creative freedom was also helpful. Also, the fact that they are extremely selfless and honest with each other, they're not scared of experimenting and evolution, and they have undeniable talent, chemistry, trust among each other, hard work, versatility, and above all ARMY. BTS is definitely lucky to have a fan group who are dedicated, united, and are just mostly music-loving good people, just like them.

Looking back and taking a moment to think about what you have presented,
allowed me to realize that something that can happen like this is very rare indeed,
unlike how bands in a group would work and perform in the past.
However, with today's band and groups, I barely recall or recollect
and band that is capable of longevity, let alone, maintain that cohesiveness
that you would normally find when working with a group. Especially with a
group this big and having that many members performing with each other.
