People forget that nations evolved into democracies. You can not just decide that a state that can't even control it's territory has to follow the rules that evolved in countries that had a totally different reality. Is it a democracy if part of the country is controlled by criminal gangs and not even the police can enter there? How is that a democracy if your family members can get k1lled and you know there is nothing you can do? I do think that the democratic system is the best we've got, but to have that you need A system, not two or three fighting for power over the same group of people.
In terms of public safety democracies are not good. Examples are Germany/Sweden in the last 10 years with their bad immigration laws or USA with their poor gun control. But the people have decided to have those laws. If they wanted they would just change those laws right?
There was a Uruguayan TH-camr who harshly criticized bukeles measures. He even travelled to El Salvador to prove that what the government stated as success was mere propaganda. On the very first day. On his very first trip out of the hotel where he was staying, the driver of the bus that he was going to get in, the driver of said bus stood up and addressed him. He told him briefly the story of how gang members broke into his home one day and proceeded to rape his teenage daughter in front of him. He was held by other gang members with a knife to his throat. He was warned that if he tried to stop the rape both he and the daughter would be killed. The Uruguayan TH-camr spent some time there and eventually went back to Uruguay where he posted a video asking for forgiveness to the Salvadoran people. Stating that he had no clue as to the extent of the brutality caused by gangsters upon the people. He thought stories were made up and or embellished and that he retracted his criticism towards the president and his government

The El Salvador situation is (and I know this sounds so stupid and privileged but) a *very* interesting and pertinent philosophical question. Actually many questions. If the good of many outways the harm of a few, as is the point of democracy, then what is wrong with a government where 2% of people are sacrificed and put in prison for the good of everyone else? Also, the idea that a (seemingly, perhaps questionably) good person is capable of being put into office and just making life better for everyone is quite interesting in itself. Would another country also want a benevolent dictator? idk
I think dictatorships have been used across history mostly for nefarious reasons, so it's hard to see how it can be good. But when someone like Bukele gets that and is someone good, smart and cares for his people, then yeah, I think most people would love something like this. Reason being: he gets shit done. Unlike most politicians in modern democracy, he actually solves issues and improves the lives of his people. Not saying this is the way, but if it's between someone like him and a corrupt government that doesn't care, then yeah, most people would be happy with it.

fascism is definitely that bad lol. Its generally characterized by a far-right, authoritarian political ideology characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, and strong regimentation of society and the economy. Better to describe it as Authoritarianism
The only time it isn’t bad is when you have a leader that actually wants to better the country, which is pretty much never the case. So it’s a shit system. Btw, this isn’t fascism. Fascism is focussed on national identity and nationalism, the government of el salvador has literally nothing to do with fascism… understand before you comment please
Fascism tends to demoralize, demonize, and target minority groups, oftentimes going to extensive lengths to mass murder and torture them, which is patently immoral. The minority groups in question are almost always innocent people, making your claim completely false
Fascism was made for extreme situations, like the one El Salvador was in with gangs running amok. The Roman Republic had a temporary dictator system for emergencies, many democracies still do today, its called martial law. Fascism should always temporary though, the problems with it come from it being extended indefinitely. Julius Caesar was extremely popular among the Roman people and did them a lot of good, handing out free money like he's Oprah, but his ambitions to have complete control and turn the republic into a monarchy is what got him assassinated. Just hope this guy doesn't fly too high and get his wings burned too.

El Salvador is a "Benevolent dictatorship", The problem with this is that precisely since it is a dictatorship, even if the majority approves it and generates positive changes, the successor or one of the dictator's successors can do a 180, since there is precisely no separation of powers.
As long as Nayib Bukele is young and healthy, El Salvador will improve, but the future after Bukele retires is very uncertain, even if he plans for that future, Someone in his party can just gain a ton of popularity and destroy all of that.
Stll better than being graped by a gang member
Meh, Roman Empire lasted 1400 years with Dictators at the helm. China has lasted 3,000. Dictators FTW. Democracy sucks ass.
I mean, that's a problem our "Democracy" systems have too. Even worse; the majority can oppose something for decades and the "democratic" government will not fulfil their wishes.
no system can answer this problem. one of your progeny may go onto become do something horrible. any democratic system you can compare dictatorships are in all reality, republics. there are no REAL democracies on Earth, even the lovely U.S. is a republic in every meaning of the word. and the potential for corruption there is just as rife as in a dictatorship

In the declaration of independence Thomas Jefferson states that we do have the right to form a new government if the one in place becomes tyrannical or stops serving the people.
it is so when do we form that gov? ours is one that hides free energy behind a 20% efficiency law for patents.
The word dictator has negative connotations in ppl's minds yet they forget some of the greatest leaders of all time were dictators, Rome was built by dictator's, doesn't mean it's always good but it doesn't automatically mean bad especially if the people are in support

As someone who has a Salvadorian father, people need to understand that critiquing Bukele's unchecked power doesn't mean we hate him.
Theres a saying, absolute power corrupts absolutely. I guess well just have to see since I assume he will be in office for a long time.
bukele in white and grey literally GIGACHAD
The whole world needs this, a clean server wipe.

@@stickmanreaper4628 "dicatotships" like this one always started with a majority of the people agreeing and understanding the context, what twisted the leader later is another thing.

chat realizing fascism isn't all that bad.
fascism is definitely that bad lol.
