For all the COH2 games I have watched on this channel, this is the most exciting and unexpected grand final I have ever seen.
I was going to comment on the quality of games from Noggano and Isildur.
But then I heard one of the better commentary lines from casters I've heard.... "they don't want to just absolutely splooge everything in the first 16 minutes".
So my comment is solely paying respect to that.
And then I finish watching the match, fantastic. Also squeezed in a Trump reference, respectable.
Holy shit. I literally thought for sure it was over at one point, went to look at the comments, spoiled myself as to who would win and *still* found myself doubting, thinking "how could he possibly win from this position?"; it was that much back-and-forth. Great game.

Absolutely incredible, when Noggano was floating 700/800 manpower i was like please please build some cons or something, and then persevering with the at guns chasing down the p4 and clawing his way back into the game. Well done Noggano, Молодец ты!

God that was good. What a game! What a series! Noggano's street fighting mongrel skills vs Isildur's clockwork perfection. All that experience from 2v2 furballs showed through.

Isildur had the game in the bag, but he messed up. the 34s was on low health he could have rushed in with his low health panther to finish them off.

Noggano almost throw the game he had game 1 and game 2 he was doing great and spammed like 3 light vehicles but did not use it to its advantage instead he played slow. And that is why the series went as far as game 5. GG for Noggano.

I watched the game yesterday at premiere and switch off at around 30min mark when I saw him winning by a large margin - what a surprise. :O

Amazing game! sadly isi gave up the game when he didn't withdraw the first panther.
This series illustrates really well why CoH1 was in some ways a better game.
1) The maps.
- They were somewhat asymmetric and had more objects to break the line of sight, which made deeper pushes and flanking attacks more viable - no 50/50 in the middle Mexican standoff bs.
- They had more resource points, which meant that capping orders were important and starving your enemy of a resource had a bigger impact.
- There were more cutoff-points and they were easier to get to, which introduced camp/push tradeoffs.
2) The factions and build orders.
- Again, they were also asymmetric, but really distinct. This series shows how in CoH2 both the Wehr and Soviet/USA always end up having really similar army compositions.
- In CoH1 it was viable to completely skip a tier/building and some situations required you to even backtech to a lower tier building later in the game.
- There was a really great variety of equally viable strategies (t1-t3 storms, t2-t4 zombie-grens, sniper spam, pio spam etc), but in CoH2 you have to default to the same strategy in order to win (at least on the highest level of play).
3) The doctrines.
- Yes, there were less of them, but they were really distinct, forcing you to adapt to your opponent.
-They were a core part to build your strategies around, whereas in Coh2 they kinda feel like a somewhat nice customisable addition to have.
I'm glad we have CoH2 and a competetive scene, but I really hope Coh3 looks back at what CoH1 was good at.
Not sure if I completely agree with your opinion, but it is interesting nonetheless. What I want to add is that I sense that we might look at CoH2 as the pinnacle of the franchise. Like, this studio has spent so many years fixing and improving this game and yet it still has bugs that players reported many years and it has massive balance issues. CoH3 in the other hand looks ALREADY uninspired. They haven't introduced a single feature I can be really excited about. Either they will completely change it before beta or it will the worst game of the series so far. The graphics, the voice-over, the variety of units, everything so far is meh
as a coh1 vet and coming back to coh2 yeah you're right, just watching this series it always devolved to the same builds and the maps are just blank open fields, there are some hedges and buildings to hide behind etc but not much else, the standard of play seems a bit lower than coh1 tbh

I'm a bit disappointed in this grand final because Isildur played at 60% of his capabilities. Not only this game but throughout the tournament also. Building that Panzer Werfer was extremely strange. It was obvious immediately that it was a mistake. Then he built another panther while having not a lot of infantry and anti infantry. However, the comeback was still real so of course the win was fair. But Isildur has lost motivation or something. I hope everything is fine with him
I am annoyed beyond words that the RW survived that game. nogg was dead on his feet half way through that game, but instead of capitalizing on the sheer lack of armor and AT Isildur built an artilery that he simply didn't need.
Finally, someone saw it too.
