I built my Dracthyr around being an explorer, specifically with the goal of maxing out archarology. There's just a feel about this new expansion that encourages you to dig in and explore everything 😉
Agreed! I was already leaning down the same road as you, but now with this new information I'm definitely going full speed ahead on my Dracthyr with Arch.
It seems like blizzard basically abandoned the one profession that truly needed attention. Good thing work orders are a thing..at least I think they are, I've literally never seen a single one that I could do when I go to my profession table.
Characters can get a huge start on Archaeology skill by going to Draenor as soon as they train it, or by training it in Ashran, and then going to Spires of Arak and grabbing all the relevant treasures. MAKE SURE to use fragments before capping them or the excess will be lost. With luck it's possible to get 50-60 skill points from this once you place any completed pristine artifacts in the garrison and all. The garrison mission table will also get an Archaeology mission extremely early on. DO NOT UPGRADE THE GARRISON UNTIL YOU COMPLETE THIS MISSION, or it will disappear.
archeology in wod is how i got into my favorite guild. just happen to run into the gm while she was running around and had a blast. only reason i stayed throughout wod tbh
Ion Hazzikostas stated in an interview that they want to overhaul Arch and make it fun, hence why it didnt get to be in Dragonflight along with the new Profs system, as they have no clue how they're going to do that.
many many interesting things in there. i would enjoy an overhaul / addition of archeology of the dragon isles. they have been around for a very long time.
I think it will be revised. There is a quest in DF where you use a device that leads you to artifacts. Perhaps testing it? I hated the old archaeology of a dozen digs to find the artifact. This would be only a couple of uses of the devise.
"Dude, where's my archaeology?" was the first thing I thought when I saw the Dragon Isles. Archaeology fits perfectly into the story and zones and it's surprising that they didn't even add digsites or anything. I hope they do revamp it instead of just removing it because it's a good way to deliver lore and content.
Blizzard has put very little effort in Archeology since Cata. It was one of the best professions then. I really hope Blizzard will devote more effort to it, and not drop it. It could be a great way to incorporate storytelling from the books. They say they want to provide more end game content for casuals, Archeology could be a great way to do that.
I still go back to my garrison every day because in the mine their are 4 carts you can loot that usually have a handful of fragments. It's just a few of the category's, but its quick and adds up fast.
Archeology is also good for Darkmoon faire. There is a Q that requires 15 fosil fragments from archeology and you don´t have to go ge them fresh- just have 15 or more fragments in fossil part of archeology and it´s completed the same minute you take the Q.
I too have noticed the EL in dragonflight said to hear that no progression will be added that WE KNOW OF. Could it be that progression is is hidden in dragonflight that we have to do something in order to unlock the next step in the profession. Why put Explorer League it not to have the intention to use them
Mannnnn. I like archeology because it was just another break in the world quest to world quest or node to node. Mix it up a bit go hit that survey spot nearby. And if they want to overhaul it they can make it random minigames they don't use anymore. Leylines, bejeweled, match the shells, turtles to the water, hell even the light puzzle from uldum, there are so many "mini games" that are just left behind waiting to be rediscovered by archeologists.
We can almost be certain from the leak a while back that there is supposed to be a large underground zone we are going to in DF in an upcoming patch, can't think of a better time for archaeology to be come back so we can either find this zone or take advantage of it!
Thank you for the heads up with this bit of information Kraken! I've always like Archaeology myself, just never completed it on any of my characters. I did want to do some of it on my Dracthyr already for more lore-bits and cheevo's. But with this information I might have to hit Archaeology a little harder than I planned, which is cool. It will help pass the time while I'm in Dungeon/PVP ques. I've been liking this expansion a lot because it just feels like the lore is a lot more present than in SL. That and our new found Dragon's seems like they want to get out there and spread their wings after being dormant for so long. Lots that they would want to explore, see and learn. So making a Dracthyr Archaeologist doesn't seem to be out of the realms of possibilty.
I still need some mounts, pets, and boa weapons (like the axe, I think, and the fossil raptor to name a couple). Might as well pick it back up again when I need to chill in game but don’t want to level or do my mount chances, thanks! 🥰
Unless I am missing something, what bothers me about archaeology is that there is no tab that shows what you have not found yet. There's only what you have found, so I don't know if I am done with a certain culture's archaeology.

Good idea. I still have achievements to do and a few of the collectibles left to obtain. I haven't gone hard at it in awhile because they yanked it out, just a bit here and there and while leveling on alts for the xp (which can be very good in Vanilla and some of the expansions).

i wanted a little break for DF but I finished the legion digs and did most of it. Great on raw gold too, you forgot that Now SL was about the after life so it makes sense not to have it but I could see a special Dragon thing being added
I've done a ton of it but I've never finished the Pandaria achievements. Those take freaking forever. I've never gotten all the perfect solves in legion or draenor, either.
I feel like they won't get rid of it entirely bc 1. it doesn't really fit into any other professions (maybe mining...?) And 2. Bc of all the Legion goodies. Only thing we lost with First Aid was a title and some achievements. Just a guess! Still disappointed we didn't get any Dragon Isles archeology....yet???
good video, blizz has all but confirmed its making a comeback in DF, in fact you can see the archeology characters in the first embassy you come to, they wouldn't have added those without intent. I personally like it
As I commented below I fulfilled my plan, and after about a day of farming I now own all the archaeology pets, toys, and mounts. Hoping we will get more in the future.
@@KrakenLatte Like I said in another comment I was only missing a couple. It did take me over 700 solves to get the Scepter, but that was a while ago. Crawling Claw was the second worst.
Thanks for the excuse to finish up some archaeology achievements! Did they change it so that they are now easier to complete? It seemed any unobtained relics were what I was learning next! Got the staff and dwarven relic achievements done after just missing one of them, as well as finished up my pandaren mirrors.
Do you have a guide on how to even get started on archeology? I’ve been playing in and off since BC and I have never figured it out Edit: oh I saw the end of the vid 😂
I just can't see them removing old archaeology. There's just too much that would be lost, with no amount of "heads-up" time that could be given for someone to complete everything. Unlike first-aid, which was a handful of bandage recipes. Although I wouldn't be surprised, removing things is always a card Blizz "regrets" playing.
Big mistake to remove first aid. And also big mistake to neglect archaeology. Less content for players to interact on and it takes away aspects of the game.

I think you are missing the Archaeology in the description. That or it isn't well highlighted.
Got the rapter mount first day leveling. But 700+ solves in for the troll 2 hander wep lol

Dang! In just a day?? I've farmed for years on the stuff and the RNG is painful. Not to mention the fact there's over 200 achievements for it!
