Reminds me of the time that I went to a gas station at night and there was a stray dog wandering the parking lot. I followed her to keep her from going toward the road, and a cop in an unmarked car pulled up and asked me what I was doing. He grilled me like a steak, same shit over again. He finally stopped and watched the dog himself. Looking back I think he thought I was a dog napper, because that had been happening in the community. Still aggravating though, I was just concerned about the dog🤷
My dad always said to answer questions from the police at all times. They have a very stressful job, and it doesn't help to increase that stress. Bad decisions can be made that can put you in the hospital or worse. That advice was given to me in 1966 when I graduated from high school. You can only imagine how worse the job stress is now. I really enjoy your channels.

I live in Cleburne and my only experience with CPD made me tell them I was going to call my BIL who is a Texas Ranger on them because they were making up laws as they went along! But their Attitude Quickly changed when they realized I really had a Texas Ranger on the other end of the line! All I have to say is the younger the cops are the worse they are!
I am a police officer. I may have ran your tags, and if you were clean, I would have left. We are not all petty brotha, but unfortunately some of us are. There are way more pressing issues that need my attention than someone simply sleeping in their vehicle. Be safe out there!

My point is this- I do not have time to talk to a person sleeping in a camper whose tags come back clean, we are fighting a war out here. Do you have an email? Individual Walmarts do have their own rules to abide by, like where to park. You can't just park wherever you want to. It would be "neighborly" to speak to the manager and "ask" if it's OK to park overnight in the parking lot and where specifically you should park. It's frowned upon to raise awnings as if you are at a campground and you should always leave the spot as clean or cleaner than you found it. It's also a good gesture to purchase a little something from the store.
If there is a city ordinance against overnight camping inside the city limits, then Walmart can't allow it, although the enforcement is done by the local police. Walmart will tell you "No", it's not allowed.
I don't think you're wrong, at all Lamont. Police officers are just like any other person. Some are way cool. Some are a-holes. I'm homeless myself. Have been multiple times. This time, for over a year and a half. Despite being a retired, disabled veteran AND working a part time job, I still cannot find affordable housing. I also have a small R/V trailer. I purchased it new 2 1/2 years ago. I sleep in my truck at night. Usually at WalMart. Have not been bothered. I don't make a mess. Mind my own business. One thing infuriating me is the government putting these illegal immigrants up in nice hotels when there's no way I can afford even one nighr at over $100 a night. Something's just BAD wrong there.

I'm a Sheriff, if I run your plates and it comes back clean (No BOLO, stolen or warrant for owner) I would have left, those officers probably was having a slow day, they had no reason to knock on the door....stay safe
I’m from Cleburne been here more than 25 years and I’ve NEVER had an issue with LE here, I’ve been pulled over couple of times and everyone has been respectful.
When dealing with a cop, never be be abrasive.tell (politely) what you are doing, why you are there and say 'If you will excuse me, I'd like to get back editing videos, as I was busy. Have a good one!' And hope they leave it at that.

Maybe simply ask & stick with, "Have I done something wrong?" Which leaves them only 2 replies: #1 - "Yes, this is what's wrong." And you both calmly address the problem. #2 - "No." And you say, "That's good - can I go now?" And everyone stands there in awkward silence until they say, "OK, have a good day" & walk away. (If they continue to badger you, just calmly ask, "Am I under arrest for not answering these questions?" Probably not. Sometimes people don't realize how unprofessional they sound or appear until you politely & tactfully (!) confirm their actions back to them.) The thing is this - cops have bad days too. And the repercussions of two people being in a combative short-tempered state of mind often doesn't end well. For either party. Choose your battles wisely.
The cops can't arrest you if you are asleep on private property, except when the owner/manager forbids it. That is what a cop from Cleburne, Tx told me when he caught me asleep in my car at an apartment complex about 2 yrs ago. He said if I was on a public road, he could make an arrest. Maybe the rules have changed.
Hi Lamont! You did nothing wrong. These cops as you say are "bored." They always look for trouble in the places that there is no trouble. It happens around here all the time and I'm sick of it. I almost got arrested for forgetting to change the new plates on my car and where was I going? to the cemetery. State Trooper told me to go home. Geez!
I saw a video a few years ago on YT, there was a cop saying that he and his collegues, when they entered a bar or a restaurant, were told to leave by the owners because they didn't want any trouble. Any *more* troubles.
LOL, Lamont. This brings back memories for me. I have been stopped and questioned so many times for no good reason. I am 75 years old now. My wife and i go to the west or midwest each year for vacation, and we are stopped somewhere every year and the cops usually seperate us and ask their usual questions to try and catch us in a lie. In Iowa last year the drug cops thought we were 75 year old drug runners. As for the big guy, his family probably have a lot of influence in the town.
They should have just knocked on your door and informed you that you couldn’t stay in that location and please move on ASAP. They already had your info. When they saw you weren’t in a “social mood”, they should have said what they needed to say and left you alone. It’s a hairy world we live in now unfortunately.
I can't stand cops that do what they did. They went out of their way to find any excuse to harras you. You handled the situation good, and stood your ground.

Many cops love to release stress in their personal life or work life, by "fucking" with people they feel they can get away with. Hang at a police station during roll call, you would be agast at the foul language, childish and unprofessional behavior some cops perform on each other...Lamont, your channel (show) is very powerful, keep up the vigilance.

I live in Cleburne, we have a real problem right now with new homeless people and drug addicts coming into town. For a small town, this is a huge problem. Crime is bad here right now. It doesn't sound like they even gave you that hard of a time. They were making their presence known. Since you didn't even get arrested or ticketed or anything, sounds like they did their job and followed the rules.
I agree completely. Police are responding to the requests of the local citizens that actually live in the towns. We are being overrun by vagrants. If you don’t live there, don’t expect you can even spend the night. Get out.

Dude I was living in my car for months having a very hard time in my life. I would get effed with so much by cops for just sitting there. No matter where I was. I could write a book about alllllll the times I was harassed. Sometimes they seem decent. Most are waiting for you to give them a reason to grind your face on the street
I Come from an entire family of Police officers in various small to mid size towns in Texas. There is one thing you need to keep in mind, In todays world with all these crazies running around their number one priority is the safety and protection of the citizens of their town. When they see someone they don't know, they will ask questions, they will investigate and they satisfy themselves that you are not a threat. They are charged with the safety of the citizenry and that is the main priority. I will also say your reaction probably made the situation worse. The Police is the only thing that stands between us and anarchy. They don't have an easy job especially today.
I totally agree with that, Terry. I am retired London (UK) police officer and I have done similar stops to this countless times. Just because someone comes back "clean" on the radio checks, doesn't mean they are not up to no good and it is a police officer's job to be a "nosey bastard", basically! So now, you have a male who I have never seen before and don't know; he is obviously agitated and irritated (Lamont, your own words my friend), so I am now going to be wary AND suspicious of you. That agitation has escalated a situation that could have been over in minutes without any hassle. For a police officer there is NO such thing as a "routine stop";so their awareness would be heightened and your agitation raises a red flag for them.... It would me too. I think in this case you were wrong Lamont; they don't know you OR why you are having a bad day... all they saw was an obstructive male who was agitated. As I have said, a radio check on someone's vehicle means nothing.... There are plenty of criminals out there that have never been caught yet, so they won't have any news come back on their radio checks. In that situation you will never win mate... Just try to relax brother...

The was a cop in the 70's and 80's that was like 500 pounds , he would break steering wheels off in the cop cars pulling himself out. But here's the odd thing, the guy was quick to move, in a bar fight, he'd walk in and slap you, and you and your buddies would go flying no lie. And this cop was super intelligent.
The ONE thing that pee's me is they bother wasting time with you when they know yr not threat. I also believe since real estate has gone through the room more and more are sleeping and their cars/vehicle. But who really cares. Nothing happens. I also applaud you being straight up. And you just wanted BOTH of you to go yr ways. As said go find a real criminal. But also some people can be pitiful.
I live in cleburne and we had our house broken into by a homeless person. Crime and drug use In cleburne is a growing problem. The police are doing the job that the community ask them to do. If you’re homeless there are plenty of county and state resources to help you. I also see endless jobs available for you to work at currently.

Theres normal parking lots here in Ohio to park and sleep. That’s why Lamont always hangs out in Ohio. Because there’s lots of parking spaces to sleep in and lots of cops here are respectful.

Cleburne is small town Texas. Generally, the cops are bored. When a cop approaches me, I just turn on the Texas charm and have a conversation with them. They usually forget what they were there for after I'm done with them.

But they can't leave you alone though. If you're parked there illegally spending the night there illegally basically you're committing a crime. They can't just leave you alone because you don't want them to bother you. They have to keep the town in order by enforcing rules.

I had a lot worse interactions with the cops in Chicago and St. Louis. If they couldnt articulate on a crime being committed by you specifically, out of state plates is not one of them. They were just harassing you that night. You're lucky that didn't ended up a lot worse.

First, thank you SO much for correctly pronouncing cleburne! Most out of towers say clay~burn. They “checked” on you to see if your simply alive. When you greeted them with an attitude, that made them think you are hiding something Asking the same question over and over again is a simple way to see if someone is lying. If you had been polite and civil from the beginning, your negative experience would not of happened would you like it if someone came up to you with an attitude from the get go for no reason? How does a stranger know when they get you at a bad time? Did the cops handle it badly? Most definitely, but so did you. That Walmart will call the cops on OTR if they park in the parking lot, most of those drivers do get arrested. I say this as a cleburne resident, an OTR driver and someone who has family in Johnson county sherif.
Well said sir . I think this guy is got problems with law enforcement and in one of his videos he stated his done time in jail and doesn't like police .
My dad was a cop. One thing we were taught by him was to always be on best behavior with officers. Even during a minor traffic stop, limit conversation to "Yes, sir...No, sir..." (Also, in the case of the traffic stop, keep hands on the wheel where they can be seen--don't start rummaging for license, etc until asked). He explained that the job is often dangerous & officers are on high alert no matter why or with whom interaction occurs. Having said that, I think cops in really small towns must get bored, so they turn a simple thing into a big deal. Oh, and even my dad would have said, Some cops are just, um, anal orifices.
I was in my late forties, early fifties when I got pulled over one night. I've been driving since I was a teen. And have been pulled over maybe two times. I had no idea you were supposed to keep your hands on the wheel. So when I got pulled over I was so nervous and started rummaging through my purse to get my license. Then I looked in the side mirror and saw the cop walking up to my window with his gun drawn. Freaked me out! But now I know
Totally understand how you felt. Unfortunately times we live in it's best to smile and be cooperative.. Those two officers could ruin your day real quick, within your rights or not. So happy things turned out good. Just my opinion.
I'm from Finland and we probably have one of the most highly-regarded police officers in the world. For those who do not commit crimes, the Finnish police officers are usually there to serve you if you have any concerns or questions. I don't know how it's elsewhere but in Finland it's normal that if the officers are not occupied, you could even approach them on the street rather care-free and ask for their advice on for example if you're allowed to park somewhere etc.
Hey Lamont, As a native Texan I can tell you that Texans are friendly but the cops don't play though. (Believe me I have had my own experience with 'em)😏 Anyway, honestly I can see it from your perspective: you gave the cop your DL and he could run your info and in your opinion that should have been enough as you were busy working. At the same time, this cop (no matter his size) has authority over the jurisdiction of Cleburne and it's up to him to help keep the area safe. From his perspective he came across someone in the Wal-Mart parking lot that had been sleeping and that as you said is against the law and to him it was his duty to basically run you off from there because otherwise you know he woulda had Walmart or his Captain breathing down his neck. And also he probably felt he was doing his due diligence in keeping the area clear. He had no idea what you were doing in your vehicle. You know as well as I do that there are weirdos out there that get on their cellphones and either try to hookup with a hooker or an underaged individual and he didn't know you from Adam and so your expectation of privacy wasn't valid in this situation. Anna Todd it is not illegal in all Walmart parking lots, I believe it a decision for Walmart to make this call and Walmart personal to put up signs stating the restrictions.

I think that sadly the bottom line is when you talk to cops you can’t have an attitude. Whether you are in the right or wrong, no attitude. It’s yes sir, no sir, thank you sir. I was raised that way. Cops are doing a tough job and you are a stranger in their town. I hear what you are saying and I know it is frustrating.

If you're still in the area and need somewhere to park you're vehicle. I have a company in Alvarado T.X. with plenty of parking space. 15 miles from Cleburne. Or at my home in Mansfield TX also plenty of parking. Let me know
Officers have the right to check out anything out of the ordinary. You clearly were not from there. Whether you had no arrests or not they had the right to inquire why you were there, charging your generator, acting perhaps belligerent to their questions. I feel they have the right to ask why are you here? Had you not been so defensive I don’t think it would’ve evolved into more questions. They had no idea why u were testy. Often that can ve because a person has something to hide. Just saying.
First of all Mr. Lamont sir, I really enjoy your videos on TH-cam. I have watched all of them and you do an excellent job. I truly am excited when I see you publish a new video. Very interesting content you put out. I am one of your biggest fans. Second of all I am a police officer and have been for a very long time now. I know that you do not know me but trust me when I say that I am in no way trying to make any excuses for anyone or their actions. I hold myself accountable for my own actions and I consider myself to have a very high moral compass. I hold myself to a very high standard and I practice professionalism, pride in my community, respect, empathy, integrity with a high amount of intestinal fortitude. I put on my pants just like everybody else, one leg at a time. I know that I have a job to do just like a person that works at Walmart, McDonald’s or a brickmason. If I cut myself, I bleed the same color as you do. I grew up very poor and in a bad neighborhood where the police were crooked. As cliché as this sounds, I decided I wanted to be a police officer to help people understand that not all cops are dirty. I seem to think I have achieved that over my career. I am very well respected in my community and the citizens love me to death. People tell me every day “ you are the coolest police officer I have ever met“. I’m not trying to sound like I have a big ego I’m just letting you know that I am a police officer who can protect and serve the community without being a “jerk”. I have a conscience and it feels good to go home to see my family at the end of each day knowing that I made good decisions. in this video you said you were open to comments from law-enforcement officers so I will comment by saying the following. in your video you said you weren’t having a great day and you were irritated. I often have bad days where I’m irritated also but I am expected to be courteous and kind to everyone that I meet. Sometimes that is Difficult just as that can be for you. That doesn’t make either one of us a bad person because we are not having a good day. I have had days where I performed CPR on a lady that died in my arms in the kitchen while her family looked on. I arrived on scene at a house fire before the fire department got there where a three-year-old and a five-year-old died while I was trying to save their lives. Worked a car crash wear a 17-year-old boy with street racing. He along with two other friends in the vehicle died on the scene before I got there. Not only did I have to look at that carnage but I had to make three different death notifications to three different sets of parents. The next call I got was from a furious lady who cussed me out because her neighbors cat walked on her car after she washed it. She called me some very horrible names and asked me why it took so long for me to get there. I explained to her that I just got finished working a very serious car crash and her response was the cat walking on her car was more serious than those kids dying. I digress. Let’s suppose while I am out patrolling, I see a vehicle in a parking lot that I am not familiar with and something seems out of the ordinary with it. I would generally run the vehicles registration and if it’s not stolen, that’s great. The return on the registration will generally tell what type of vehicle it is and who owns it. Just because the tag comes back to let’s say “John Smith”, doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the one who is either driving or inside of it. If the vehicle is in the parking lot of a business that is currently closed then I legally have the authority to attempt to make contact with someone in the vehicle. Not only to figure out if I crime is currently being committed but also to check on the occupants safety. I got out with a van and it was parked in a hardware store parking lot after the business was closed. When I went up to the van I could see the occupant was passed out, not asleep. The occupant was having a medical emergency (low blood sugar of 24). Being that I have never observed that particular van in that parking lot before after hours raised some suspicion to me. If I had not been doing my job that night that man would have died. If I knocked on the door of your vehicle and you answered, I would tell you that I was just making sure that you’re all right. Being that you were trying to make your interaction with the law-enforcement officers brief, I assume they interpreted this as you were trying to hide something. Often when someone is committing a crime, they try to make the police hurry and leave or are very brief with the officers so that they will go away. I did not say this is the case all of the time, I just said often times. We have a difficult job. Not only physically but mentally and emotionally. What if the van belong to someone else, and not you? Let’s suppose there was a 13-year-old girl in the back of the van who is being raped and the officers walked up on that. If I knocked on the door of the van and I recognized it was you Lamont. I would’ve probably asked for your autograph first of all. And then I would’ve told you that I hope you got to feeling better and I would have left you alone to do your video editing. all of us law-enforcement officers are not bad. We are definitely underpaid, overstressed and very few people respect us because they do not know what we see and have to deal with on a daily basis. It’s not easy to go to work every day knowing that there is someone out there in society with a bullet that has your name on it. I hope this may have helped explain why the officers acted the way they did in the situation. Once again, I am a big fan of yours and love your work. Retired CA cop here. We were in great shape. I'm retired in Texas. Lots of fat cops here. Walmart is private property. They allow people to sleep in their lot. Not sure how that can be against the law.

I work in LE in NC, I can relate to both sides but regardless of agitation (which I also understand) always be cooperative. As far as making contact with you I would say the LEO’s made the right call. As another Officer, stated in a previous comment you really should do some ride along with different departments. It would definitely help you to understand what Officers/Deputies are up against. You made the right call by requesting to speak with a Sgt. or a Capt. if need be. Anyway, I really enjoy your channel and next time you find yourself in the Charlotte area I would enjoy the opportunity to meet you and buy your lunch.
Walmart is private property and used to have a policy of encouraging sleeping in their lots especially truckers and campers because they know people will come in and buy food and supplies. Has that changed?
One time I was sleeping in my friends car in the parking lot of the cleburne Walmart sometime before noon, my bf and I lived in a tent in the DFW area, I had just gone into full blown labor on an access road while tornado sirens were wailing, had just gotten out of the hospital from giving birth, a friend came for us and we were low on gas waiting for my mom to cashapp me some gas money..we weren't inside the store going crazy, we hadn't even left the car, I was the only one asleep. And I come to from my bf nudging me to look outside. We had been surrounded by four cleburne cop cars. They were very callous and dismissive of anything we had to say, and ultimately we got trespassed from the Walmart we never went into! The car had no insurance and my friends license was expired...but they were so adamant about us vacating the city limits, they ended up giving the keys to me to drive the vehicle out of their sphere of influence. The cops in that county are notorious 'good ol boys' with some of the harshest lengths of time for non violent crimes in the state. They're known to arrest homeless people if they are confronted by them or any other "different" seeming people. I don't even like going thru there if I can help it.
Hey Lamont, you were close to me. I'm in Benbrook. You need to come to Fort Worth and go to the Como Cemetery near the Como Community Center. It's a old forgotten black only cemetery that most people don't even know about. Graves that go back to WWI and earlier. It's keep up by volunteers and all stones face towards the East. It's sad that so many people that live in the area don't even know the cemetery is there. Those were historical black citizens that made the area what it once was. They created Fort Worth's Black Wallstreet. It's not the best area today, but no will ever mess with you if you go to the cemetery.
On a technicality scale were you actually sleeping in your "vehicle"? Because last time I checked I thought a vehicle is a transportation device with a motor and if you're sleeping in your trailer then I would assume it has no motor in it therefore it's not a "vehicle".

I'm only 3 minutes into this video and I know where it's going. Having lived in Burleson (15 minutes north of cleburne) most my life and just getting out of a long term relationship with somebody that lives in Cleburne, I could probably tell this story for you. I am probably the most boring person you will ever speak to and every time I go to that town, I'm either harassed or arrested. It is like the Twilight Zone and I don't understand how they get away with it. It's been that way since I can remember and nothing happens so I'm hoping since you have a platform, maybe some light can be shown on the corruption and abuse towards citizens happening within that Police Department. I'm not going to make this a super long post but one time they arrested me for a traffic violation right after I had a miscarriage and they stripped me down to nothing and put me in a room with a drain. That's it. When I told them that I was going to be bleeding because of the miscarriage one of the female officers in the room said, sucks to be you! I didn't mention that I was stripped by two males while a female stood in the corner and berated me. Because I didn't pay a traffic ticket from when I was in my twenties

As a victim of police brutality music I can't even tell you how sorry and how angry I am that you had to go through that. Sorry to hear about ur experience in Cleburne. You should definitely visit the town of Keene, TX. Very smaller in comparison to Cleburne & right around the corner & it's home to my alma mater Southwestern Adventist University. Also there's a cemetery not to far from the University.
Here's my thoughts on the situation. The only reason they came in contact with you is because it's a very small community. There isn't much going on so any little thing that looks out of the ordinary they're going to investigate or find a problem with. If it were a city they have bigger fish to fry and wouldn't even know you were there. Small community police officers don't have much to do. The city cops are the ones that have their hands full and wouldn't have even made contact with you. I'm not former law enforcement but I've been in the security field for almost 20 years. Dealing with police officers and friends that have become police officers that pretty much sums it up. 👊

Im curious, does the city law about not sleeping in your vehicle apply to private property. Walmart parking lot is private property. Also, if its considered a camper, does that change the law. Just curious.

Umm, no. He's not wrong. He doesn't have to answer any questions unless a warrant is issued. The fifth amendment doesn't just disappear when interacting with police. He offered his driver's license and they declined.

I now live in a "house" kind of a assisted living house, it helps people who are homeless there are only 5 beds, but right now 2 are empty, this house is across the street from the local police department, but 2 of my house mates were trying to get back into the house, I heard them at one door, but they were going to the back, I opened the door and low and behold they were being detained because this very young cop thought they (my house mates) were trying to break into the house, as I opened the back door, the cop hurried up to me and whispered "do you know these people?" WOW huge red flag, he was profiling my housemates they are a mother & son who live here and yes they are of color, anyways longer story short my housemates came in and I knew right then that this young cop was in fact profiling them, which has pi$$ed me the fck off. You give someone a title or a badge and they think their sh!t don't stink that they are better than you, but we all bleed red, we all put our pants on the same way, 1 leg at a time. I've dealt with these 2 officers and they were the nicest, most helpful officers I've ever dealt with. I get where you're coming from but they were doing their job. I don't think you should be arrested for that, just my opinion,but I think you handled it well. This town is pretty awesome and I'm glad you didn't let one bad experience ruin the way you looked at us here.

Reminds me of the time that I went to a gas station at night and there was a stray dog wandering the parking lot. I followed her to keep her from going toward the road, and a cop in an unmarked car pulled up and asked me what I was doing. He grilled me like a steak, same shit over again. He finally stopped and watched the dog himself. Looking back I think he thought I was a dog napper, because that had been happening in the community. Still aggravating though, I was just concerned about the dog🤷
My dad always said to answer questions from the police at all times. They have a very stressful job, and it doesn't help to increase that stress. Bad decisions can be made that can put you in the hospital or worse. That advice was given to me in 1966 when I graduated from high school. You can only imagine how worse the job stress is now. I really enjoy your channels.

I live in Cleburne and my only experience with CPD made me tell them I was going to call my BIL who is a Texas Ranger on them because they were making up laws as they went along! But their Attitude Quickly changed when they realized I really had a Texas Ranger on the other end of the line! All I have to say is the younger the cops are the worse they are!

Individual Walmarts do have their own rules to abide by, like where to park. You can't just park wherever you want to. It would be "neighborly" to speak to the manager and "ask" if it's OK to park overnight in the parking lot and where specifically you should park. It's frowned upon to raise awnings as if you are at a campground and you should always leave the spot as clean or cleaner than you found it. It's also a good gesture to purchase a little something from the store.
If there is a city ordinance against overnight camping inside the city limits, then Walmart can't allow it, although the enforcement is done by the local police. Walmart will tell you "No", it's not allowed.
I don't think you're wrong, at all Lamont. Police officers are just like any other person. Some are way cool. Some are a-holes. I'm homeless myself. Have been multiple times. This time, for over a year and a half. Despite being a retired, disabled veteran AND working a part time job, I still cannot find affordable housing. I also have a small R/V trailer. I purchased it new 2 1/2 years ago. I sleep in my truck at night. Usually at WalMart. Have not been bothered. I don't make a mess. Mind my own business. One thing infuriating me is the government putting these illegal immigrants up in nice hotels when there's no way I can afford even one nighr at over $100 a night. Something's just BAD wrong there.

I’m from Cleburne been here more than 25 years and I’ve NEVER had an issue with LE here, I’ve been pulled over couple of times and everyone has been respectful.
When dealing with a cop, never be be abrasive.tell (politely) what you are doing, why you are there and say 'If you will excuse me, I'd like to get back editing videos, as I was busy. Have a good one!' And hope they leave it at that.

#2 - "No." And you say, "That's good - can I go now?" And everyone stands there in awkward silence until they say, "OK, have a good day" & walk away. (If they continue to badger you, just calmly ask, "Am I under arrest for not answering these questions?" Probably not. Sometimes people don't realize how unprofessional they sound or appear until you politely & tactfully (!) confirm their actions back to them.)
The thing is this - cops have bad days too. And the repercussions of two people being in a combative short-tempered state of mind often doesn't end well. For either party. Choose your battles wisely.

The cops can't arrest you if you are asleep on private property, except when the owner/manager forbids it.
That is what a cop from Cleburne, Tx told me when he caught me asleep in my car at an apartment complex about 2 yrs ago. He said if I was on a public road, he could make an arrest. Maybe the rules have changed.

LOL, Lamont. This brings back memories for me. I have been stopped and questioned so many times for no good reason. I am 75 years old now. My wife and i go to the west or midwest each year for vacation, and we are stopped somewhere every year and the cops usually seperate us and ask their usual questions to try and catch us in a lie. In Iowa last year the drug cops thought we were 75 year old drug runners. As for the big guy, his family probably have a lot of influence in the town.
They should have just knocked on your door and informed you that you couldn’t stay in that location and please move on ASAP. They already had your info. When they saw you weren’t in a “social mood”, they should have said what they needed to say and left you alone. It’s a hairy world we live in now unfortunately.
I can't stand cops that do what they did. They went out of their way to find any excuse to harras you. You handled the situation good, and stood your ground.

Many cops love to release stress in their personal life or work life, by "fucking" with people they feel they can get away with. I live in Cleburne, we have a real problem right now with new homeless people and drug addicts coming into town. For a small town, this is a huge problem. Crime is bad here right now. It doesn't sound like they even gave you that hard of a time. They were making their presence known. Since you didn't even get arrested or ticketed or anything, sounds like they did their job and followed the rules.
I agree completely. Police are responding to the requests of the local citizens that actually live in the towns. We are being overrun by vagrants. If you don’t live there, don’t expect you can even spend the night. Get out.

Dude I was living in my car for months having a very hard time in my life. I would get effed with so much by cops for just sitting there. No matter where I was. I could write a book about alllllll the times I was harassed. Sometimes they seem decent. Most are waiting for you to give them a reason to grind your face on the street
I Come from an entire family of Police officers in various small to mid size towns in Texas. There is one thing you need to keep in mind, In todays world with all these crazies running around their number one priority is the safety and protection of the citizens of their town. When they see someone they don't know, they will ask questions, they will investigate and they satisfy themselves that you are not a threat. They are charged with the safety of the citizenry and that is the main priority. I will also say your reaction probably made the situation worse. The Police is the only thing that stands between us and anarchy. They don't have an easy job especially today.
I totally agree with that, Terry. I am retired London (UK) police officer and I have done similar stops to this countless times. Just because someone comes back "clean" on the radio checks, doesn't mean they are not up to no good and it is a police officer's job to be a "nosey bastard", basically! So now, you have a male who I have never seen before and don't know; he is obviously agitated and irritated (Lamont, your own words my friend), so I am now going to be wary AND suspicious of you. That agitation has escalated a situation that could have been over in minutes without any hassle. For a police officer there is NO such thing as a "routine stop";so their awareness would be heightened and your agitation raises a red flag for them.... It would me too. I think in this case you were wrong Lamont; they don't know you OR why you are having a bad day... all they saw was an obstructive male who was agitated. As I have said, a radio check on someone's vehicle means nothing.... There are plenty of criminals out there that have never been caught yet, so they won't have any news come back on their radio checks. In that situation you will never win mate... Just try to relax brother...

I live in cleburne and we had our house broken into by a homeless person. Crime and drug use In cleburne is a growing problem. The police are doing the job that the community ask them to do. If you’re homeless there are plenty of county and state resources to help you. I also see endless jobs available for you to work at currently.

Theres normal parking lots here in Ohio to park and sleep. That’s why Lamont always hangs out in Ohio. Because there’s lots of parking spaces to sleep in and lots of cops here are respectful.

Cleburne is small town Texas. Generally, the cops are bored. When a cop approaches me, I just turn on the Texas charm and have a conversation with them. They usually forget what they were there for after I'm done with them.

I had a lot worse interactions with the cops in Chicago and St. Louis. If they couldnt articulate on a crime being committed by you specifically, out of state plates is not one of them. They were just harassing you that night. You're lucky that didn't ended up a lot worse.

First, thank you SO much for correctly pronouncing cleburne! Most out of towers say clay~burn. They “checked” on you to see if your simply alive. When you greeted them with an attitude, that made them think you are hiding something Asking the same question over and over again is a simple way to see if someone is lying. If you had been polite and civil from the beginning, your negative experience would not of happened would you like it if someone came up to you with an attitude from the get go for no reason? How does a stranger know when they get you at a bad time? Did the cops handle it badly? Most definitely, but so did you. That Walmart will call the cops on OTR if they park in the parking lot, most of those drivers do get arrested.
I say this as a cleburne resident, an OTR driver and someone who has family in Johnson county sherif.
Well said sir . I think this guy is got problems with law enforcement and in one of his videos he stated his done time in jail and doesn't like police .
My dad was a cop. One thing we were taught by him was to always be on best behavior with officers. Even during a minor traffic stop, limit conversation to "Yes, sir...No, sir..." (Also, in the case of the traffic stop, keep hands on the wheel where they can be seen--don't start rummaging for license, etc until asked). He explained that the job is often dangerous & officers are on high alert no matter why or with whom interaction occurs. Having said that, I think cops in really small towns must get bored, so they turn a simple thing into a big deal. Oh, and even my dad would have said, Some cops are just, um, anal orifices.
I was in my late forties, early fifties when I got pulled over one night. I've been driving since I was a teen. And have been pulled over maybe two times. I had no idea you were supposed to keep your hands on the wheel. So when I got pulled over I was so nervous and started rummaging through my purse to get my license. Then I looked in the side mirror and saw the cop walking up to my window with his gun drawn. Freaked me out! But now I know
Totally understand how you felt. Unfortunately times we live in it's best to smile and be cooperative.. Those two officers could ruin your day real quick, within your rights or not. So happy things turned out good. Just my opinion.
I'm from Finland and we probably have one of the most highly-regarded police officers in the world. For those who do not commit crimes, the Finnish police officers are usually there to serve you if you have any concerns or questions. I don't know how it's elsewhere but in Finland it's normal that if the officers are not occupied, you could even approach them on the street rather care-free and ask for their advice on for example if you're allowed to park somewhere etc.

Hey Lamont, As a native Texan I can tell you that Texans are friendly but the cops don't play though. (Believe me I have had my own experience with 'em)😏 Anyway, honestly I can see it from your perspective: you gave the cop your DL and he could run your info and in your opinion that should have been enough as you were busy working. At the same time, this cop (no matter his size) has authority over the jurisdiction of Cleburne and it's up to him to help keep the area safe. From his perspective he came across someone in the Wal-Mart parking lot that had been sleeping and that as you said is against the law and to him it was his duty to basically run you off from there because otherwise you know he woulda had Walmart or his Captain breathing down his neck. And also he probably felt he was doing his due diligence in keeping the area clear. He had no idea what you were doing in your vehicle. You know as well as I do that there are weirdos out there that get on their cellphones and either try to hookup with a hooker or an underaged individual and he didn't know you from Adam and so your expectation of privacy wasn't valid in this situation.

Anna Todd it is not illegal in all Walmart parking lots, I believe it a decision for Walmart to make this call and Walmart personal to put up signs stating the restrictions.

I think that sadly the bottom line is when you talk to cops you can’t have an attitude. Whether you are in the right or wrong, no attitude. It’s yes sir, no sir, thank you sir. I was raised that way. Cops are doing a tough job and you are a stranger in their town. I hear what you are saying and I know it is frustrating.

Cops don't have quotas like that. I thought they did too. Turns out it's just an urban myth. Although I'm positive some decide to have their own quotas they make up.

Officers have the right to check out anything out of the ordinary. You clearly were not from there. Whether you had no arrests or not they had the right to inquire why you were there, charging your generator, acting perhaps belligerent to their questions. I feel they have the right to ask why are you here? Had you not been so defensive I don’t think it would’ve evolved into more questions. They had no idea why u were testy. Often that can ve because a person has something to hide. Just saying.

First of all Mr. Lamont sir, I really enjoy your videos on TH-cam. I have watched all of them and you do an excellent job. I truly am excited when I see you publish a new video. Very interesting content you put out. I am one of your biggest fans. Second of all I am a police officer and have been for a very long time now. I know that you do not know me but trust me when I say that I am in no way trying to make any excuses for anyone or their actions. I hold myself accountable for my own actions and I consider myself to have a very high moral compass. I hold myself to a very high standard and I practice professionalism, pride in my community, respect, empathy, integrity with a high amount of intestinal fortitude. I put on my pants just like everybody else, one leg at a time. I know that I have a job to do just like a person that works at Walmart, McDonald’s or a brickmason. If I cut myself, I bleed the same color as you do. I grew up very poor and in a bad neighborhood where the police were crooked. As cliché as this sounds, I decided I wanted to be a police officer to help people understand that not all cops are dirty. I seem to think I have achieved that over my career. I am very well respected in my community and the citizens love me to death. People tell me every day “ you are the coolest police officer I have ever met“. I’m not trying to sound like I have a big ego I’m just letting you know that I am a police officer who can protect and serve the community without being a “jerk”. I have a conscience and it feels good to go home to see my family at the end of each day knowing that I made good decisions. in this video you said you were open to comments from law-enforcement officers so I will comment by saying the following. in your video you said you weren’t having a great day and you were irritated. I often have bad days where I’m irritated also but I am expected to be courteous and kind to everyone that I meet. Sometimes that is Difficult just as that can be for you. That doesn’t make either one of us a bad person because we are not having a good day. I have had days where I performed CPR on a lady that died in my arms in the kitchen while her family looked on. I arrived on scene at a house fire before the fire department got there where a three-year-old and a five-year-old died while I was trying to save their lives. Worked a car crash wear a 17-year-old boy with street racing. He along with two other friends in the vehicle died on the scene before I got there. Not only did I have to look at that carnage but I had to make three different death notifications to three different sets of parents. The next call I got was from a furious lady who cussed me out because her neighbors cat walked on her car after she washed it. She called me some very horrible names and asked me why it took so long for me to get there. I explained to her that I just got finished working a very serious car crash and her response was the cat walking on her car was more serious than those kids dying. I digress. Let’s suppose while I am out patrolling, I see a vehicle in a parking lot that I am not familiar with and something seems out of the ordinary with it. I would generally run the vehicles registration and if it’s not stolen, that’s great. The return on the registration will generally tell what type of vehicle it is and who owns it. Just because the tag comes back to let’s say “John Smith”, doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the one who is either driving or inside of it. If the vehicle is in the parking lot of a business that is currently closed then I legally have the authority to attempt to make contact with someone in the vehicle. Not only to figure out if I crime is currently being committed but also to check on the occupants safety. I got out with a van and it was parked in a hardware store parking lot after the business was closed. When I went up to the van I could see the occupant was passed out, not asleep. The occupant was having a medical emergency (low blood sugar of 24). Being that I have never observed that particular van in that parking lot before after hours raised some suspicion to me. If I had not been doing my job that night that man would have died. If I knocked on the door of your vehicle and you answered, I would tell you that I was just making sure that you’re all right. Being that you were trying to make your interaction with the law-enforcement officers brief, I assume they interpreted this as you were trying to hide something. Often when someone is committing a crime, they try to make the police hurry and leave or are very brief with the officers so that they will go away. I did not say this is the case all of the time, I just said often times. We have a difficult job. Not only physically but mentally and emotionally. What if the van belong to someone else, and not you? Let’s suppose there was a 13-year-old girl in the back of the van who is being raped and the officers walked up on that. If I knocked on the door of the van and I recognized it was you Lamont. I would’ve probably asked for your autograph first of all. And then I would’ve told you that I hope you got to feeling better and I would have left you alone to do your video editing. all of us law-enforcement officers are not bad. We are definitely underpaid, overstressed and very few people respect us because they do not know what we see and have to deal with on a daily basis. It’s not easy to go to work every day knowing that there is someone out there in society with a bullet that has your name on it. I hope this may have helped explain why the officers acted the way they did in the situation. Once again, I am a big fan of yours and love your work. Retired CA cop here. We were in great shape. I'm retired in Texas. Lots of fat cops here. Walmart is private property. They allow people to sleep in their lot. Not sure how that can be against the law.
City ordinances can NOT be enforced on private property like Walmart!

I work in LE in NC, I can relate to both sides but regardless of agitation (which I also understand) always be cooperative.
As far as making contact with you I would say the LEO’s made the right call.
As another Officer, stated in a previous comment you really should do some ride along with different departments. It would definitely help you to understand what Officers/Deputies are up against. You made the right call by requesting to speak with a Sgt. or a Capt. if need be.

Walmart is private property and used to have a policy of encouraging sleeping in their lots especially truckers and campers because they know people will come in and buy food and supplies. Has that changed?
One time I was sleeping in my friends car in the parking lot of the cleburne Walmart sometime before noon, my bf and I lived in a tent in the DFW area, I had just gone into full blown labor on an access road while tornado sirens were wailing, had just gotten out of the hospital from giving birth, a friend came for us and we were low on gas waiting for my mom to cashapp me some gas money..we weren't inside the store going crazy, we hadn't even left the car, I was the only one asleep. And I come to from my bf nudging me to look outside.
We had been surrounded by four cleburne cop cars. They were very callous and dismissive of anything we had to say, and ultimately we got trespassed from the Walmart we never went into! The car had no insurance and my friends license was expired...but they were so adamant about us vacating the city limits, they ended up giving the keys to me to drive the vehicle out of their sphere of influence.
The cops in that county are notorious 'good ol boys' with some of the harshest lengths of time for non violent crimes in the state. They're known to arrest homeless people if they are confronted by them or any other "different" seeming people. I don't even like going thru there if I can help it.
Hey Lamont, you were close to me. I'm in Benbrook. You need to come to Fort Worth and go to the Como Cemetery near the Como Community Center. It's a old forgotten black only cemetery that most people don't even know about. Graves that go back to WWI and earlier. It's keep up by volunteers and all stones face towards the East. It's sad that so many people that live in the area don't even know the cemetery is there. Those were historical black citizens that made the area what it once was. They created Fort Worth's Black Wallstreet. It's not the best area today, but no will ever mess with you if you go to the cemetery.
On a technicality scale were you actually sleeping in your "vehicle"? Because last time I checked I thought a vehicle is a transportation device with a motor and if you're sleeping in your trailer then I would assume it has no motor in it therefore it's not a "vehicle".

I'm only 3 minutes into this video and I know where it's going. Having lived in Burleson (15 minutes north of cleburne) most my life and just getting out of a long term relationship with somebody that lives in Cleburne, I could probably tell this story for you. I am probably the most boring person you will ever speak to and every time I go to that town, I'm either harassed or arrested. It is like the Twilight Zone and I don't understand how they get away with it. It's been that way since I can remember and nothing happens so I'm hoping since you have a platform, maybe some light can be shown on the corruption and abuse towards citizens happening within that Police Department. I'm not going to make this a super long post but one time they arrested me for a traffic violation right after I had a miscarriage and they stripped me down to nothing and put me in a room with a drain. That's it. When I told them that I was going to be bleeding because of the miscarriage one of the female officers in the room said, sucks to be you! I didn't mention that I was stripped by two males while a female stood in the corner and berated me. Because I didn't pay a traffic ticket from when I was in my twenties

Sorry to hear about ur experience in Cleburne. You should definitely visit the town of Keene, TX. Very smaller in comparison to Cleburne & right around the corner & it's home to my alma mater Southwestern Adventist University. Also there's a cemetery not to far from the University.
Here's my thoughts on the situation. The only reason they came in contact with you is because it's a very small community. There isn't much going on so any little thing that looks out of the ordinary they're going to investigate or find a problem with. If it were a city they have bigger fish to fry and wouldn't even know you were there. Small community police officers don't have much to do. The city cops are the ones that have their hands full and wouldn't have even made contact with you. I'm not former law enforcement but I've been in the security field for almost 20 years. Dealing with police officers and friends that have become police officers that pretty much sums it up. 👊

He admitted he wasn't in the best of moods to chat with them and even went to the police station to give his reasoning why he thought he acted badly to the desk sergeant. They were just doing their job, so why email the Chief of Police?

Umm, no. He's not wrong. He doesn't have to answer any questions unless a warrant is issued. The fifth amendment doesn't just disappear when interacting with police. He offered his driver's license and they declined.

I now live in a "house" kind of a assisted living house, it helps people who are homeless there are only 5 beds, but right now 2 are empty, this house is across the street from the local police department, but 2 of my house mates were trying to get back into the house, I heard them at one door, but they were going to the back, I opened the door and low and behold they were being detained because this very young cop thought they (my house mates) were trying to break into the house, as I opened the back door, the cop hurried up to me and whispered "do you know these people?" WOW huge red flag, he was profiling my housemates they are a mother & son who live here and yes they are of color, anyways longer story short my housemates came in and I knew right then that this young cop was in fact profiling them, which has pi$$ed me the fck off. You give someone a title or a badge and they think their sh!t don't stink that they are better than you, but we all bleed red, we all put our pants on the same way, 1 leg at a time. Rant over sorry for taking up your time

I've dealt with these 2 officers and they were the nicest, most helpful officers I've ever dealt with. I get where you're coming from but they were doing their job. I don't think you should be arrested for that, just my opinion,but I think you handled it well. This town is pretty awesome and I'm glad you didn't let one bad experience ruin the way you looked at us here.
