    I did back it day 1. I'm really excited about the martial maneuvers and techniques, but also what the casters get to act uniquely from other casters beyond having different flavors of spells. Really excited to try druid grove stuff.

    Thanks for breaking down what you like about DC20. I've been testing the system as a GM for a while now, overall its been a blast for all. It encourages dynamic & collaborative play and provides lots of opportunities for creativity and meaningful choices. Its been fairly easy to learn and teach because most of it feels so intuitive.

    Got to playtest this at last year's GenCon and it was a blast! My table was getting a lot of mixed feelings with D&D. We tried Pathfinder and it was too constrictive for them. DC20 has been a perfect inbetween for my table. We haven't looked back since

    • @garykinney16
      @garykinney16 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@JonnyRobinson I have only run it online. I use Roll20. With Roll20, you get 3 colored bars that you can use to track stuff for tokens, so I use green for HP, Blue for AP, and Red for SP/MP.
      The biggest problem I have seen is PLAYERS not tracking their AP. I usually end up doing it for them.
      In person, Id probably use a small handheld dry erase marker board, or a die next to where I am tracking the monster HP.

    • @garykinney16
      @garykinney16 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@JonnyRobinson As for actually running the game, it is nearly as easy as D&D5e. DC20 does take on some of the crunch of Pathfinder with more actions you can do like recalling knowledge, feigning, intimidating, etc, and there are a lot more conditions, but the rules are very close to 5e, so if you’re not sure what the rule is, you can usually go with how you would rule it in 5e, and a lot of the time, you’ll actually be right anyway.
      Sticking with advantage and disadvantage is also easy to apply and intuitive.

    I love the fact that DC20 is blowing up.
    This guy almost single handedly designed this RPG by himself, seemingly fixing everything that 5e has refused to fix for SO many years!
    But he has taken it even further blending in successful features from more RPGs and also adding his own innovative stuff when a solution was not readily available.
    Sure its still in development (Beta), but this just means that it will get even better down the line.
    Seeing the numbers on kickstarter, I believe not only will the core book be successful, but he will have the funds to hire more people to help him out AND have enough to start on working on the next book(s).
    Cheers!

    This is great and all, but for me what truly needs to happen is: Support in VTTs. Support in the form of adventure modules that are easy to read and DM (!!). Websites for building characters, NPCs and monsters. Support in the form of prewritten monsters with interesting mechanics. Quests. Locations. All easily accessible.
    This needs to be accessible, not only a good system with a book. I hope they can do that.

      I agree, honestly I think we need to bring back Modules like in the olden days. The super thick campaign books that are like 150+ pages long shouldn't be the norm imo.
      Honestly Lost mines of phandelver is the perfect size. We def need modules for modularity and to string together to form an overall campaign, plus it means that new material can be pump out regularly rather then 1 new book a year.
      I agree on the VTT, roll 20 and foundry support is a must (even though I use Owlbear Rodeo lol) and ofc Online character maker would be nice with maybe a free SRD of sorts to test the game out with limited stuff (maybe up to level 3 with only 1 or 2 subclass per class)

      @@Evendur6748 Agreed on both.
      Also, the problem I have with current adventures is that most of them are written like... books. What do I mean with that? I mean that the text structure focuses on delivering a fun experience instead of enabling you to bring a fun experience to your players.
      It is paragraph after paragraph of prose with hard to find information.
      The lore and information is most of the time completely irrelevant, or found at a later stage in the book (CoS is a big offender when it comes to this). It is basically just for the one who reads the book.
      I really, really dislike this. The thicccer the book, the worse this problem gets, too!
      If dc20 can bring good books that are well structured and use their own system, it would be such an insta win.

    Read through the latest available alpha.
    Looks interesting and I'm curious to see how it develops.
    As a Pathfinder player, to me it feels like a blend of D&D5e and PF2e.
    Surprisingly, there are aspects to it that are way more complicated than PF2e.
    It also has aspects that are simpler than D&D5e.
    But it also has a lot of interesting ideas.

      @Zr0din @NoFunAllowed First off, 5e already has rolling to hit with the damage built in. It is literally in all the stat blocks, the numbers are in ( ) next to the damage range. If the number isn't provided it is easily enough figured out. D4=2.5, D6=3.5, D8=4.5, D10=5.5, D12=6.5, D20=10.5 and while 5e generally rounds down, you an round up, it doesn't matter that much.
      Reading through the DC20 playtest documents, if you'd prefer to move some of the stuff into an existing 5e campaign, it is easy enough. And if you want help, just let me know and I'll help you do it.

    Four actions, seems like it will really slow play down.

    • @NoFunAllowed
      @NoFunAllowed  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      you have 4 action points, but often time you can stack the APs, like making spells or attacks stronger, so its rarely "i do 4 completely seperate yet completely unique actions"

    • @GlenFinney
      @GlenFinney 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve played and GMed it about 6 months. Combat runs about the same time in my experience but more dynamic and engaging. You gain the 4 AP at the end of your turn, use it for reactions (yes you can do more than one reaction) and movement. Often you spend a couple AP on things like reaction Cantrips or maneuvers to improve you or your ally’s defense or saving throws, and you’re sometimes better off using more than one AP during your turn to give yourself advantage. It’s a very flexible and elegant way to to deal with action economy.

    • @zacharyharwell351
      @zacharyharwell351 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      On top of what NoFun said, you also use them for your reactions, so you might have a shorter turn than other games depending on how many reactions you take advantage of

    • @minimoose7890
      @minimoose7890 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      There's also no time spent confirming if someone's turn is over or not, i.e. "did you want to use movement? did you have any Bonus Action you wanted to take?", because one they've used up their 4 Action Points for the round, you know their turn is over and then they reset their action points as you move on to the next initiative. (And if they've used all 4 action points before their turn on reaction-triggers or by doing combos with allies, then you can just skip right past their turn.)
      Most of the time if a player has 3 or 4 Action Points at the start of their turn, they're using 2 or 3 of them to improve one action they want to do. Almost everything uses Action Points, even Movement, so it really is not any slower than D&D5e's round structure (Action, Bonus Action, Movement, Reaction) -- even smoother imo once you're well familiar with it as it's more flexible and allows for more choice and cooperation.

    Love some of these changes but as I left a review for the alpha feedback a couple are major mistakes. The psychology of numbers is vastly different. Yes. Diablo 3 doing 2 billion damage is stupid. This does not translate to TTRPGs. Going from an existing culture of TTRPGs to now my character at their best does 9 damage!!!! That may be amazing in DC20 but this will greatly lack a wow factor and ultimately hurt the games success. The same concept goes for only 4 stats. I agree that constitution is a bit annoying as an auto pick for 12/14/16 in 5e. But it’s up to them DM to make other stats more important and engaging as well as constitution. Going from 6 to 4 sounds nice from a game design perspective. But again. This is extremely lacking. In fact. Simplifying hurt other games including computer games. Look at the utter failure of Diablo 3 and 4 if you want to use computer game RPGs as your example. Compare them
    To the success of Diablo 2. 6 stats, spell trees, complex inventories. I think the major problem with DC20 like most of these games. They all have grand ideas. But none of them are Guy Kawasaki or James Watt. These people just aren’t entrepreneurs and don’t have the know how to collect true academic data to make informed decisions on their games. For the love of god stop using discord and Reddit and hire a data analyst.

      ALL TTRPGs at this point are derivative, in fact, TTRPGs themselves as a concept are derivative, given their origins in wargaming that was essentially homebrewed.

    This game feels so overhyped, like they are dumping a lot of money into advertisement and paying off content creators. All these creators are gushing over it, and yet the game is in early development, and entire rules are being rewritten daily. That tells me these videos are full of shit if they can't find problems with it because the developers are finding issues. They did the same thing with Shadowdark and its only now that this is out they are pointing out shortfalls in Shadowdark.
    My personal concern is players constantly interrupting the game, and every action the DM takes is countered by a player. This is one of the things i hated about 3e.
    My other concern is that combat doesnt seem very good. Yes its faster, bu tying attack to damage means the players always know the monster defence, and its almost impossible to have a high defense/low htpt mob. This makes converting adventures or homebrewing extremely difficult, and any content will need to be designed by the developers. It is just not 3rd party friendly.

    Nah DC20 doesn’t look good. Can’t see anyone actually playing it but even if they do, I will not.

      agree it looks like the special ed version of an rpg. How many people have bad DMs that they cannot be fast at rulesets. DnD is super easy to play - I play 2e and have not found a better one yet. 5e as well I found was just not good. The art work in it also is bad and this game seems to have crap art work as well. Most of the players that will play this already play ShadowDark as that game is super easy to play as well. I browsed the quickstart of this and laughed at how cheesy it is. I thought SDark was vanilla - this one takes the crown.

      @@rycor9117 yeah I agree on all counts. Additionally never been a fan of dungeon coach or any of his content. This system doesn’t change that view at all

      People should certainly play what they want. We’ve had an active West Marches discord playing DC20 for about the past 6 months and having a blast with it!

      @@rycor9117surprised how much love you have for 2e, but I’m glad you’ve had a game that’s been around for 35 years! It didn’t really add much for me over AD&D 1st edition. I’ve been playing and GMing DC20 and it’s given a lot of good gaming experiences for us.

      @@GlenFinney I have been playing 2e and through to 5e and 2e with after years of playing it I made it mine as the game tells you to do - change or keep what works. Glad my love for 2e makes you happy. 2e was never meant to when it came out - it was 1st edition in order with lots of player added rules. 1st edition was all over the place. 3rd wasn't to bad either. I have never struggled to DM games and have been running a 9 player group for many years. We try different stuff but 2e is our go to most times we do play free league games in between. Its not for me I need more of a challenge - to each their own - in the end it is just a game. And yes 2e had proven to stand the test of time - you can tell from all the supplements it had, and still fan created stuff which is great to check out.
