- What an amazing drama! Chen Kun is superb actor: so much passion and emotions in one character - he's really like a shakespearean tragic hero.
This is not just a character played by an actor, but it's a piece of art. This drama is a master piece and the reason is Chen Kun was choosen to play Ning Yi's role, and I say no could do justice to this character other than Chen Kun. He just nailed it 🔥

I only watched this drama recently, after it was taken from Netflix I believe. It is now completely English subbed on YT. Actors, costumes, styling, make up, interiors are excellent. It is theatrical acting. The only minus is that the last 15 - 17 episodes (of 70) are hard to follow, they don't make sense to me. Still worth the watch, I will watch it again. Great photography, cenematography too.

It is a wonderful piece of history, but I cannot comprehend why it has to end on a sad note. Why do some people believe that history should always conclude with misery? Why not be happy?
In the book they both (she first and he later) faked their deaths to be free and reunited later in jianghu. He actually was on his own "burial" incognito, and she came to mourn him thinking he really died. So he found her and they lived happily ever after))

It’s a Master piece of Art in Acting. Fantabulous Actors like the Emperor,prince chu and minister ziyin they have excellent expressions to the situation given to them. No Phoenixes have ever risen in this Drama!! After the first half, characters behavior never made sense!! The end was really bad. For me, enjoyed first half: the development of actions and characters, the second and the end were really bad and extremely long! The protagonist twisted into "the beauty of them all" like the low dramas which was a big waste..
The name Feng is the phoenix being that Zhiwei is the lost princess also in Royalty the phoenix rising.. again it's the nuance of meaning.

Did the writers or directors change? I'm halfway. The actors are amazing. So much meaning portrayed in the most subtle of expressions. Story is getting more serious. So far characters are reflecting the change of everything that's happened to their lives in a year. Hope there's still some light moments in the story.
Can't stand it when a good story, series or drama is rushed at the end. So careless. Literally steals away all the emotional connection the audience has with the characters and the story. Example, last episode of Merlin, otherwise an absolutely brilliant series.
Hope future writers can end a story of a drama or series properly. Regardless of whether the ending is sad, happy or shocking. Keep the tempo. So much time and effort goes into an orginal show so why ruin it on the last episode. Give the audience the closure needed to recommend or re-watch the show.
The series was cut by about 20 episodes. Because of this, the writers had to rewrite and change the plot. So the last third of the series looks rather sluggish and clumsy and sometimes it makes no sense.
