Huge leap in quality in 2019. It's really interesting to see someone else progress. There's so much complexity in your later stuff. I wish I had your level of output. I'm too much of a stickler for details to get the sort of big projects you work on done. Always end up creating really simple objects myself and by the time I'm really stuck in I land a crappy admin job that takes up all my day.
I love the tripod robot at 9:54. I need somebody to give me a good reason to make something like that.

This might sound kind of tacky, but as I'm watching this, I'm kind of looking at you as something I could have been. Marvel was just kicking off when I was in middle school, and after watching the original Iron Man 1 and 2, I was really super inspired into learning how to do visual effects. I recorded myself doing silly acts all by myself and would bring them into Adobe After Effects and edit them so that they would look like if I was swinging around a lightsaber or shooting ki blasts like in Dragon Ball. That was all 2D animation that I picked up from just playing around with the software and watching tutorials on TH-cam, but then I found out about Blender and was super surprised you could do all of this for free and I was really hyped up about wanting to learn. Unfortunately, I was transitioning into high school at around that time, and actually joined a school club that had me stay after school and volunteer in weekends, so I just lost time more and more every day until I eventually had to abandon Visual Effects altogether. Honestly, my last, last project was the very picture I'm using as my profile picture, which honestly only took be about 5 minutes to make because I was so well versed in After Effects at the time, but like I said, I made that when I was 14, 10 years ago. I've been trying to get back into Blender, especially with all these big 2.8 updates, but I'd essentially be starting from scratch. I'm pretty well versed in Fusion 360, which is another 3D design software, but its more used for making mechanical things that one would 3D print. It serves an entirely different purpose than Blender, but I'd be at least somewhat familiar in modeling.
Don't give up on your projects. Keep advancing. Keep innovating. Be glad that you know this craft.

I really appreciate this heartfelt comment Luciano. You are massively encouraging. While the teen years are really important, I think sometimes too much emphasis is placed on them. Just because you didn't learn something ten years ago doesn't mean you can't now. I wish you the best of luck in your blender adventures. :)

    Damn, I love your work!
I tried out a friend's version of C4D back in 2008, he put it on my flash drive and installed it when I got home. Literally I could not even learn how to manipulate the cube and gave up after an hour of confusion. I did get Blender afterwards, I think it was version 2.4 something and, man, I really feel dumb now because I gave up moments after trying it out. Fast forward to last year, I got version 2.79 and found it super easy to navigate aside from right-clicking as selecting.. but regardless I only made the donut and an ammo box, then some assets like weapons and blocks for a couple games like 7 Days to Die and Skyrim. I still never got into animating anything, but that's literally as far as I got because of work. Your stuff really inspires me to get back at it because damn, your stuff from even 2012 is miles ahead of where I am currently. And your most recent work from 2019 is incredible! Keep it up!

    • @IanLetarte

Love these vids where people show off their progress in long term.
I'm studying somewhat a year or so, not much achieved if you compare how far people can go studying say programming when they go for money and can show off in very short time.
In contrast your ideas of dream projects take years to complete and you often feel bad of yourself because of it. When you look how much time it takes for other people to become good in 3D it kinda feels better, start to realize it's not you the problem, it just come in waves and you need to learn how to catch them. Can take months to ride one, then nothing, then another wave.
Nice vid, good taste in music. Cheers.
