    WOW, superlative! That is the most spectacularly beautiful knife I have seen to date. I am green with envy. I know "thou shall not covet" but I do. Thanks for the introduction!

    I just put a bunch of cassidium coated parts into my car. Pistons were $2000 for a set of 4, however they are rated to 1600hp out of a 2.5L engine. They looked amazing.

    Sick looking blade...can't believe such a gorgeous knife has still got that blasphemous pocket clip. If it had a deep carry clip, it would be an 11/10. My preference, I just like deep carry to keep it from bumping into things.

  • @beuabez
    @beuabez 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Deep carry pocket clip also helps protect your knife or whatever you are rubbing up against such as a car. The less knife hanging out of your pocket the less risk its gonna get scratched up or scratch up other surfaces.

  • @sickjohnson
    @sickjohnson 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jim, I love deep carry pocket clips, because when I am sitting at my desk or in the car/truck the knife handle is not digging into my hip so much.
    I could just see Gavkoo giggling at you for that little nick you gave your thumb. lol
    Love my DOC custom too. Did you say what Blade Steel they used for all of them; I had to dig deep to find out CPM3V but that is not confirmed.
    There is a video of Marfione at Blade doing his grinding on one DOC live and the blades are pre CNC cut but Anthony does do a quick smoothing and sharpen on them Jim.

    This is the most beautiful knife I’ve ever seen. But the practicality? It’s a conversation piece.

  • @zaknefain100

    Cool looking knife, though, as an engineer, I think the use of casidiam (DLC) is a bit of novelty in the knife world. Does it increase hardness, corrosion and wear resistance? Yes, but so do many other lower cost coatings. It's a wonderful coating for materials with poor wear properties though, which is why you see it on aluminum and titanium (galling) components throughout the racing industry.
    I'd like to see knife makers take advantage of the PVD coatings a bit more like TiN, TiCN, etc.. These are used extensively in the cutting tool industry and can be applied in a number of color variations.
    Coatings aside, this is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing.

    As someone below pointed out, you've arrived at a point with knives where I'd hesitate to carry them. I don't abuse mine, but I don't baby them either, and some of these...sitting in their boxes in a drawer isn't why I'd get it. Investment maybe. Anyway that's what I'd tell myself when I write the check!

  • @mussolini1944
    @mussolini1944 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I wonder if we'll be seeing this coating become commonplace in the gun world, I thought it was a titanium nitride similar to what Salient Arms is using on their bolt carriers at first. Sounds like it would be very useful on areas and parts that see a lot of ware.

    Maybe you should try some of cold steels new products. I know that you adore custom knives, and cold steel can in no way possible equal a high end custom, but I think that you'd enjoy one of their espada knives with the new CTS XHP blade steel. The polished version is gorgeous! Just a recommendation.

    You know, for someone who usually likes to view things from multiple perspectives, you sure were aggressive and one-sided on the pocket clip argument.
    Most of my friends and I use and love deep-carry pocket clips, because, when the whole knife is below the rim of your pocket it is MUCH harder to to fall out of your pocket while bending, climbing, etc. That being said, you're right, nobody cares that you carry a knife. But does that mean that we are a "super secret spy" and "insane"?

    • @jacobprentner
      @jacobprentner 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's not "falling" out, knives get "pushed" out of my pocket with my thigh. While you're telling me it won't make a difference it works for me because of that reason. It works because your pants pocket has a lip on them, so, if your knife is all the way under the lip it cant come out. That is assuming ones pants fit normally. this is all personal experience so if yours doesn't agree then don't TELL me it doesn't work please.

      just a thought on deep carry PC ..that's what lanyards are for..im in a wheel chair and carry a rockstead KOU. its hard for me to to get it out of my pocket sitting in my wheelchair, so i have a 550 cord snake knot lanyard i made for it. I grab the lanyard with my pinky and ring finger and it works fine for me

    • @JimSkeltonKnives
      @JimSkeltonKnives  10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I am referring to so many reviewers (and posts on forums) where the main reason people cite for wanting a deep carry clip is to be more discreet. That's pure BS.
      As far as the retention, a properly designed clip with the right tension and the right shape is what stops a knife from being pushed out of your pocket... not how close to the butt of the knife it is attached. I ride motorcycles, everything from Ducati to Road Glides and have never had a single knife from my collection push out of my pocket. A deep carry clip, especially on a knife without a lanyard, will always be more difficult to draw from the pocket. At the least, you're having to adapt to it. I detailed my thoughts better in the video...

    • @NaihanchinKempo
      @NaihanchinKempo 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't disagree ..its not right or wrong, its preference and experience. Being i am in a wheelchair i use lanyards on any deep carry clip and some of my not so deep clips when possible.. have the same probs with guns..arm rest on the chair gets in my way

    • @captnaidy6122
      @captnaidy6122 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the fence with the deep carry, but, yes a but, If I had spent so much of my hard earned money on a knife as good as the Marfione Custom, believe me I would want it as deep as possible safe and secure in my pocket. I'm not keen on relying on just a lanyard hanging out of my pocket. IMO. Yes I would have the clip customised with a different style looks very painful Ouch no thanks. Great vid love the knife

    I can't find any info about the knife on the microtechknives.com website. So what kind of steel is the blade made from? In any case, that is an absolutely bitchin' carry. You couldn't pry me from that knife with a crowbar. In addition to the amazing scales, spacer and lockbar, I love those oversize studs on the blade. You are so lucky to own such a knife. $1,150 is thievery. And yes, it is a murderous looking knife, speaking candidly. Thanks for being so honest as to verbalize that straight up.

    I do a lot of mirror finishes in my blades, but I can't understand how he does the mirror while keeping the flats bronze. Then again I do everything by hand so...... As for the grind it's completely possible to do a grind such as that by hand just takes time that's all.

    • @neiljborja

      Probably mirror the bevels on a buffing wheel, then satin sand the flats afterwards.

    This knife is absolutely beautiful! I just ordered a Marfione custom also. If you end up keeping this knife for a long time... What would you do to protect that blade long term? And keep that perfect shine too.
    I am getting a socom delta mirror polish. I just want to keep it looking as shiny as it should for a long time. Do you just use standard oil on the blade to preserve it? How about windex? hah (that was a joke)

    You can but an AR with a decent sight for that kind of money. I'll take the rifle any day. Only knife I'd ever spend over 200$ is a sebenza because I like the way they look. And for $1100 that blade should be perfectly centered down to the atom. I've got a 20 dollar kershaw chill that's centered. Beautifal knife I won't lie. And if it was a gift I would be happy as shit. Ronald Wilks I found 3 doc with the 6061-t6 aluminum. It’s about $1000 cheaper then this one. Marfione custom are really “semi-custom” by far the most expensive semi customs

      toasteh if I made that knife, i wouldn't sell it for over $200 CAD, what the hell are you going to do with it, if the blade was made from iron meteorite I would get it, but I have seen knives that had over 2 months to make, they look and preform beautifully, still not over 500, it just doesn't seem to make sense to me when you can get something that is used for the same thing, but you can buy 30 of the other o use that money to buy something more useful

      dylan Lewis You have companies that has machinery and a workforce that can mass-produce. Then you have your custom knives that are more rare, take more labor and time, but you get the 'autograph' of its maker. Its a peace of art, made with the utmost care. Some come out great, others not so much.
      I agree with you though; companies like that for Marfione/Strider are mass-production companies, but their way of marketing and distribution is to make less of a certain knife, stick the 'custom' label on it, put a bit of extra care and shine to it, then sell it for a high price. I think its bullshit.
      Then you have knives like that of Stan Wilson; legendary knife making, utmost attention to detail and art, and each knife gets his full attention for several months. Top that up with a great reputation for quality and innovation, and an extreme amount of market demand, and you can charge whatever you want for your custom knives.
      Fact is a knife is a knife; some cut better than others, some are sturdier while others slim and EDC friendly. Most of them will do the cutting job. As a knife interested person I dont think any knife is worth $500-$4000. But if I had the money and wanted a custom piece enough, I wouldnt hesitate in buying it.
