London 23.09.14 - On this evening Mexican tenor Javier Camarena performed a programme of songs and arias by Mozart, Bellini, Rossini, Gounod, Donizetti, Crescenzo, Tosti, Gastaldon, Sorozabal, Guastavino, Grever, Lara, Cardillo and Puccini. He was accompanied by Enrico Maria Cacciari.

I love this man. I saw him in Daughter of the regiment at the Royal in London. It was one of the happiest evenings of my life. I went back to my hotel & bought a ticket for a 2nd night. In between I saw him in person standing a metre from me in a coffee shop.
So, this was an unforgettable evening. The tenor (who has a pretty but otherwise anonymous voice) who had originally been booked cancelled. Camarena stepped in and only then did I book as I had heard him on TH-cam and thought he sounded rather good. He wasn't rather good - he was BREATHTAKINGLY incredible. Camarena is a "once in a lifetime" voice. His artistry is superb - the mastery of diminuendo, crescendo and interpretive skills - and in this repertoire the world has heard nobody better. Above Ab the voice goes into superdrive and the squillo, tone and timbre simply cannot be described - excitement, thrill beauty security. I agree that the colatura can, at times, be breathy. But because this is such an open-throated, belcanto, beautiful sound, when one is in the hall it passses without detracting from his artistry. One other thing, at this recital there was, amongst all the jewels that he displayed and offered to the public, one moment that I shall never forget. He gave "core ngrato", and when singing the "core" of the note was of such intensity, passion and beauty with harmonics and resonance that the entire audience gasped.
Beautifully put. I was there too, having booked to hear the originally billed artist. I was aware that Camarena had caused a fuss just before at the Met in L' Elisir de Amore but I hadn't heard him live and, like the rest of audience I was amazed. I recall the audience was in a frenzy by the end second aria and it just got better. It was the most exciting new voice I had heard since Ermonela Jaho stepped in at the last minute to replace Netrebko as Violetta and an evening I will never forget.

Si el mundo fuese opera, el mundo seria más sensible, si la sensibilidad es una virtud ellos tienen con su voz la llave que abre las puertas y ventanas de este misterioso mundo para muchos, que no todos logran abrir segados por la pérdida de la misma.
La opera tiene todo lo que nos ofrece la musica hoy en día, más a la véz y crearme cuando creemos que esto es todo es solo el comienzo va con nosotros y con los años formando parte de nuestra vida.
Es maravilloso escucharlo en you tube, pero lo es todavía MEJOR escucharlo en vivo.¡ Es totalmente conmovedor! Mueve las fibras más insensibles. Además de ser un hombre muy sencillo y espiritual

Notable not just for the full throated incredible top C and D, but also listen to the use of the dynamic, diminuendi, crescendi, and interpretative skills. Not just fireworks - but artistry of the most sublime type.
Seeing Javier live is a great experience .
right you are...what artistry and coloratura technique...most of those comments here mention only his high C's...how ignorant and stupid!
@@amilouli622 - Like so many wonderful performers of opera, he seems to inhabit the roles of the operas he sings. He becomes those characters in such operas.

Him, Spyres, Florez, Brownlee are the Kings nowadays. Humble opinion.
But these are all leggieros? Have you no space in your heart for more robustos? What about full lyric tenors or spintos?

Just can't sing the coloratura, although the voice is a fine one and the top spectacular.
Se oye, alto y claro. Tuve la suerte de oirle hace un par de días y fué impresionante. La semana anterior estuve viendo a Juan Diego Florez y sintiendolo mucho no puedo decir lo mismo. Canta lindisimo pero tan bajito..

Just heard him sing Don Pasquale (Ernesto) at the Met and he was absolutely incredible, so I think you're right.

that's not really an excuse, yes he's more lyric. But he's clearly a light lyric. Coloratura is a must, it just means he hasn't worked on his scales enough

Don't like his singing ALL the fioratura STACCATO. And the top notes sort of bleated out full force. Don't like his monochrome tone color and the arbitrary piano effects early on. The whole thing seems tight and overproduced. His manner seems forceful - not at ease. This is the first time I've heard him - will listen to some other selections. But as of now - THUMBS DOWN.
