It's strange that nowadays few people would consider any other approach to acting. Of all the revolutions in the arts over the past century, I have to think this one is perhaps the most overlooked. I think those broad gestures he describes were invented for the stage, where more subtle expressions would be invisible to an audience watching the action from a distance with unaided vision, in a theater that may not have been terribly well-lit. It was first with better lighting, and then with film that a more subtle approach could even be workable.
I wish I could be taught acting by him. :( I'm going to be stuck with some boring person, I just know it. Why aren't there more Leonard Nimoy's in the universe?
