It's to move the overton window. Eventually those 5-10s ads will become 30-45s just like TV. I would not be surprised if they expanded the video viewing area so they could show ads around the main content continuously just like in the movie Idiocracy. If you bake the ads into the stream it can't be adblocked.

1:07 - this is not the first time I've seen a post like this, from someone who doesn't understand the difference between rent payments and loan payments. The bank/provider isn't saying you can't afford the $950 monthly payment, they're saying you can't afford the $300,000 plus mortgage (or whatever the property value is) - which is a loan. When you get a mortgage, the bank/provider has already paid the full worth of the property to whoever you bought it from. That's already gone from the bank/providers own accounts, the mortgage is you paying them back for that money they've dished out. So if you suddenly can't ever pay your rent, the landlord would only ever be out $1400 - if you suddenly can't ever pay your mortgage, your bank/provider will be out $300,000 or whatever the value of the property is. That's a _much_ higher risk to take than simply a failed rent payment. That's why they refused you. They're saying the risk you won't repay the entire loan is too high for them to gamble on. Comparing one with the other is like comparing apples to a beef steak. They're both food, but still entirely unrelated otherwise.

Canadian here. Canada, while being it’s own country and having its own government structure, is still technically part of the British commonwealth. Meaning that the queen technically does have final say in any decision made by the Canadian parliament( but in a figurehead kind of way). To prevent the queen herself from needing to come all the way to Canada any time the Canadian parliament wants to do anything, the position of Governor General is appointed by the queen to act on her behalf. The current Governor General was actually one of the people invited to the queens funeral along with Justin Trudeau (our prime minister and the equivalent to the US president).It still is kind of just a formality nowadays and we just make our own political decisions anyway, however the relationship is still there. I grew up in an Arab country (specifically Lebanon), So all shows would be French or Arabic, and Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network would be effected, and god the voice actors for the different languages sound like they hadn’t slept in days. Yeah, back in 2012 I suggested buying a house to a family member for $528/month mortgage _including taxes_ vs $1,580/month rent. That's a more reasonable compromise. (Spoiler, she did not bother trying to buy a house until she was kicked from her rent in 2021 because idiots will be idiots.)
Just gonna let you know, most rent in that zone doesn't include anything but sewage and trash, so there's still electric and water, plus internet/cable and renters insurance when the landlord lets crap go to hell (because you know they do), and all of that other stuff you mentioned comes under the heading of homeowner's insurance, although to get the payments in the realm of reason does come with a hefty deductible. But the difference of $450 a month allows you to bank enough to have a nice fallback.

I got the 5-10 unskippable ads one time, think they were all 5-10s, it was really annoying. I figure it's either to test the amount of viewer retention if they were to increase ads, that or potentially make a push for a lot of people to buy TH-cam premium
It's to move the overton window. Eventually those 5-10s ads will become 30-45s just like TV. I would not be surprised if they expanded the video viewing area so they could show ads around the main content continuously just like in the movie Idiocracy. If you bake the ads into the stream it can't be adblocked.
I'm gonna guess the later, since while I haven't seen anything above 2 ads yet, I have been getting more and more ads for TH-cam premium specifically (which is a hilariously dumb concept to me to begin with. You want to get rid of ads? Watch this ad to see how our premium service works!)

1:07 - this is not the first time I've seen a post like this, from someone who doesn't understand the difference between rent payments and loan payments. The bank/provider isn't saying you can't afford the $950 monthly payment, they're saying you can't afford the $300,000 plus mortgage (or whatever the property value is) - which is a loan. When you get a mortgage, the bank/provider has already paid the full worth of the property to whoever you bought it from. That's already gone from the bank/providers own accounts, the mortgage is you paying them back for that money they've dished out. So if you suddenly can't ever pay your rent, the landlord would only ever be out $1400 - if you suddenly can't ever pay your mortgage, your bank/provider will be out $300,000 or whatever the value of the property is. That's a _much_ higher risk to take than simply a failed rent payment. That's why they refused you. They're saying the risk you won't repay the entire loan is too high for them to gamble on. Comparing one with the other is like comparing apples to a beef steak. They're both food, but still entirely unrelated otherwise.

Canadian here. Canada, while being it’s own country and having its own government structure, is still technically part of the British commonwealth. Meaning that the queen technically does have final say in any decision made by the Canadian parliament( but in a figurehead kind of way). To prevent the queen herself from needing to come all the way to Canada any time the Canadian parliament wants to do anything, the position of Governor General is appointed by the queen to act on her behalf. The current Governor General was actually one of the people invited to the queens funeral along with Justin Trudeau (our prime minister and the equivalent to the US president).It still is kind of just a formality nowadays and we just make our own political decisions anyway, however the relationship is still there.

But the difference of $450 a month allows you to bank enough to have a nice fallback.

No, that's not how mortgages work. They don't renew, like leases do. A mortgage is taken for anywhere from five to forty years, and the payment is figured up front from the beginning. Anyone with a brain gets a fixed-rate mortgage, from a reputable lender which doesn't use those variable rate balloon things, so they absolutely KNOW what the rate will be, no matter what the national rate changes to.
No, the rent isn't protected to a maximum percentage increase. It's on the whim of the owner. If the owner is a large company, which decides to do a lot of upgrades, the rent can be increased to reflect the new amenities, and even if your apartment doesn't have them yet, it can still be increased with that of the other apartments to force you out so they can do the uprgades to your apartment also.
