Preheating your oven can actually impact your food, especially for stuff like baking cakes. The longer it sits there while the oven's warming up, the more the bubbles will rise and pop, creating a denser cake. Also, most recipes have their cooking time based on a preheated oven, so if you put it in without preheating, you'll be having to babysit whatever's in there because the cooking time in the recipe will be much harder to judge.
I should also mention, you should really be careful anytime you're trying to cook food especially while a conventional (non-fan/non-convection) electric oven is pre-heating. Certain conventional electric ovens (at least in the US) will use the top heating element while pre-heating. Depending on your oven, this may end up burning foods that have a sensitive top: IE, a frozen pizza.
There is some cakes called cold oven cakes that are ment to be put in a cold oven and warm up with the oven. Dylan Hollies did a video on it where he made a cold oven cake in a cold and preheated oven, and the cold won out cause that was what the recipe was ment for

I would go the the corner shop buy a comic, some sweets and a bag of crisps and still have a couple of pence left for a treat later in the week. While I don't think that pre-heating is some sort of scam brought up by gas or electric companies, she does have a point. It sounds like she has a convection oven, which means the oven is going to be more efficient anyway. In fact, with most modern ovens you really don't need to pre-heat in most cases. Pre-heating is best used for something that you bake at a high temperature for a short period of time. Fish, for example.
Preheating your oven is not about cooking your food, you wait until it's done because the oven hasn't yet reached hot enough to kill the bacteria and they will start to multiply faster the higher the heat reaches, until it's reached a point it is deadly to them and if your food is a little pink in the middle that means it's cooler there, oftentimes just cool enough the bacteria you allowed to multiply is able to survive which can be incredibly dangerous. It has nothing to do with getting the food cooked better and everything to do with stopping salmonella and similar deadly bacteria

Again for things that are baked for short periods (like Fish) it is certainly best to pre-heat. But not for a long bake.

Pre heating ovens existed long before electricity. You want an even cooking temperature radiating around your food. For basic things like a frozen pizza, sure it works. You just need to make sure you know the proper timing when to take it out from when you first turned it on and put it in. Usually it adds almost the same amount of time that it takes to heat up the oven, you might shed off a minuet or two, but thats it

lol when I was 13 or so I got in my head the bright idea that if I used the maximum recommended cooking time for prepackaged frozen food without preheating and it usually came out spot on. When you don't pre heat your pizza gets soggy. Just turn it on, buff your pizza with some extra cheese or some spices and toss it in after a few minutes.

Preheating an oven definitely depends on oven brand. As for my own oven, preheating is just stupid, as I mostly use it for frozen pizza's, so with preheating it, I spend 15-18 minutes, but if I just chuck the pizza in there and set the timer, It only takes 13 minutes. Bottomline is, who in their right mind willingly waits extra time to get food?

Pre heating ovens existed long before electricity. You want an even cooking temperature radiating around your food. For basic things like a frozen pizza, sure it works. You just need to make sure you know the proper timing when to take it out from when you first turned it on and put it in. Usually it adds almost the same amount of time that it takes to heat up the oven, you might shed off a minuet or two, but thats it

lol when I was 13 or so I got in my head the bright idea that if I used the maximum recommended cooking time for prepackaged frozen food without preheating and it usually came out spot on. The only way the food will taste better is by using the oven. I have no idea how it works or the rationale. I also wouldn't try it with anything that hasn't been cooked already.

When you don't pre heat your pizza gets soggy. Just turn it on, buff your pizza with some extra cheese or some spices and toss it in after a few minutes.

Preheating an oven definitely depends on oven brand. As for my own oven, preheating is just stupid, as I mostly use it for frozen pizza's, so with preheating it, I spend 15-18 minutes, but if I just chuck the pizza in there and set the timer, It only takes 13 minutes. Bottomline is, who in their right mind willingly waits extra time to get food?

For frozen pizzas then go ahead and skip the preheat, the difference in quality is negligible unless you're using a stone/tile
But for actually cooking things the preheat is important I'm a culinary student but also a broke college kid so I don't fuck around with useless steps lol
