@Seven Inches of Throbbing Pink Jesus Come on, man, there's a time and place. 🙁People are here for music, not philosophy and sarcasm. And look, we probably agree. If by "complete lie" you're referring to the astrology BS 😏 (you don't even make your point) _I'm with you_ 100%. But a _lie?_ By that reasoning, all the great works of fiction and art are lies too, and presumably worthy of disdain. The commenter said it's a beautiful song, and it is! From one over-thinker to perhaps another, try not to read too much into "everything about". S/he said nothing about truth being overrated and unimportant. That's another point we could certainly commiserate about.... another time, another place. 🙄But sometimes we need to escape the daily divisiveness and bickering, don't we? Thanks for reading.
Am I the only one who gets choked up when the song switches to "Let Tbe Sunshine In" and Billy Davis Jr. sings? I turn 57 this August and I still feel the urge to CRY.
You should really go look for "Hair" for which this song was written. It was chaotic at times but a spot on commentary on American society. Excellent sociopolitical statement. Sadly, the same is true today.
I have been hearing this song since I was a 60s kid and it just gets better and better. You can't say that about today's "music" which is forgotten within a couple of months after it comes out.
There are so many qualities that make this a timeless tune. I will mention only two. A) The time signature shift change which occurs in the middles of the song. B) The bass line is just astounding, like something from the wrecking crew.
It appears that it was The Wrecking Crew. There’s a citation link in Wikipedia (Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In article) to the book that lists the Wrecking Crew timeline on page 261 of The Wrecking Crew : the inside story of rock and roll's best-kept secret by Hartman, Kent. It lists this song specifically. From the Wikipedia article: “Instrumental backing was written by Bill Holman and provided by session musicians commonly known as the Wrecking Crew.”
I think I read in the comments to another YT version of this song that they were two different songs melded together. Well it's greater than the sum of its parts. Sometimes I refer to it as the "bridge to forever", it never comes back. My absolute favorite song when I was 6. And yes, the bass is fantastic.
I rediscovered this song through this youtube "Top 10 60s Songs You Forgot Were Awesome" where @7:13 it mentioned Davis wanted his band to include the Hair's "Aquarius", and jammed "Let The Sunshine In" to make a complete song. I heard this song eons ago but didn't know it was two separate as one. Great tune. The 60's, 70's, 80's are golden era indeed.
1. those two horn notes when they abruptly change songs- still gives me chills 2, In 1969, of all years, to have a song at #1 on the charts for six weeks is unimaginable but it happened 3. Grammy Award for Record of the Year. They were right! 4. Marilyn McCoo looking so beautiful! 5. The song listed at number 66 on Billboard's "Greatest Songs of All Time" - good choice 6. Billy Davis's improvising on those vocals....
How in the F do you devolve from this perfection to Lil’ Pump and Meghan Thee Stallion?!! How, black people?! HOW!? God, give me a Time Machine please!
Just because you like something doesn’t mean it’s good( this is great). Don’t paint something with a wide brush. Especially given that art is subjective. Much love and peace to you!
If there is one song that defines the hippie era and the year that humans first walked on the Moon, it was this one. But on its own it is a fantastic song from the musical composition, the horn transition midway between the two songs, the intro bassline, to the harmonies and the angelic voices of the two female leads. Marilyn McCoo is a mesmerising presence.
Still inspired by this awesome song, this group was marvelous. Strange last night this song was in my dream, so I woke up and had to listen to it. Definitely brightened up my day.
I was only 4 when this came out but I remember great music, great visual, no vocabulary of course. Seems like the most futuristic we ever got was the late 60's/early 70's. Then everything got stifled to squeeze/skim a nickel off the top at every turn. Can you imagine what it does to development to have so much colorful visuals, fountains in front of buildings, full musical arrangements, etc. only to have them taken away for greed.
As a little kid in 1974 may be earlier.. I never forgot this song...all of a sudden...in a moment I just break out as if being backed up by a heavenly choir ready at any time...this is the dawning of the age of Aqurious...just because it was the most beautiful line in any song ...I don't even know my own sign.. JK piece to all.....it's a good song for your alarm clock...I got a strawberry alarm clock u can have..
Google The 5th Dimension- Aquarius / Let The Sunshine In (1969): what is music made in heaven without the beautiful background vocals and the swinging rhythm section that is able to freak out!
Mystic Crystal/Cristal Revelations and the mind’a true Liberation. Golden living dreams of visions…Yes! Love the webs and it’s almost as if they knew the future where unity consciousness in the 5th dimension would happen through the web. 😊
This song was so ahead of its time. It still sounds ageless to me today.
Habbening now
and yet it's more OPERAtic than most pop music of the time.

Well, it's from a Broadway show called Hair.
@@davidsenatore1880 this VERSION is more opera than the OBC album.
As beautiful today as it was in 1969. Never tire of it.
The song is great and the the group are probably one of ( if not ) the best singing groups in modern history.
This is one of those rare songs that deserves it's own page in an encyclopedia of 20th century music, let alone the 60's.
I think it does. The age of Aquarius is currently happening, so I'm sure it's in any book pertaining to astrology and cosmology
And all the definition would need is your quote and a link to the song.
Amen
So true
Everything about this song is beautiful.

Whose an Aquarius in this chat and listens to this song 🙌🏽
It's about all of us. When I was 3 they played this a lot on the radio. I am 57 now. We are in the age of Aquarius. I was born at the dawn of it.
Aquarius all the way Jan. 21❤❤
No tattooes no extensions no revealing clevich no died damage split end hair and that skin radiant and naturally beautiful SAY. IT. LOUD
Those girls had poison in their scalps to get their hair white enough to be on tv, unfortunately
Those two ladies were as beautiful as their voices.
Sexy as hell!!!!
We are in the Age of Aquarius. The old is being purged to make room for new…with unconditional love at its core.
So let the sun shine in.
yeah!! it's so exciting
I wish I could believe that.

It's still a wonderful song, after all these years. This proves what a fabulous job, the group did.
One of the greatest songs of all time.
This song is so powerful! Alas, the optimism of the 1960s has been completely shattered by 2023 :(
If you're here, then it is ALIVE and WELL❤

Big up to you, the lovely Marilyn McCoo and her spouse Billy Davis.
