I love mine a lot, it’s rattling is whatever, I’m use to it, but I mainly bought it for making my own blades to try steels on the cheap, it’s dead simple to make them, no need to machine perfectly, just get 1/8 inch stock, the tabs take care of the action unlike blades on pivots that need to be fitted perfectly. This is a pretty good little knife honestly, it is begging for customizations.
@@peteg22397 I’m waiting for some steel and zirconium to come in, if people are interested, I can upload here on TH-cam, maybe some pics on redit knife groups or somewhere,
@@SMS2884 my thoughts exactly, I never understood why people don’t, so I’m just going to do it myself and see how it goes, I can’t imagine it being too bad with a knife like this at all. It’s such a simple design.
My crazy "legal " knife story. At a city council meeting in my hometown after going through the metal detector I forgot my Buck 110 auto was in my pocket. I hand it to the police chief with the magnet wand hicky and he says "when did they make the 110 an auto". I said " about 3 weeks ago". He says ' cool'. Hands it back to me and I go into the meeting. Needless to say people were highly confused.
Outside of a small handful of big cities, how legal or illegal a knife is is highly dependent on how dumb the person carrying it is. It's even more relevant than the actual law, in a lot of cases. Edit: In the US.
I’ve only been collecting for 2 months now and I have 7 knives. I bought this one and LOVE it. It’s fidgety, fun, beautiful, very safe (your hands never get close to the blade), and a piece of art.
You forgot to mention something in the "Good" section. This knife has an integrated audio camouflage allowing you to disguise yourself as a rattlesnake to your adversaries during those covert desert assignments.
Thanks for the Knife review. I can always count on you for your honesty. I feel like when I watch your channel. I'm actually getting an honest review. Thank you. I appreciate you everything you do for the community.❤ You are honestly my favorite thank you for everything you do
It’s a knife for knife guys. I have maybe 25 knives, I’m not buying knives because I need them anymore. They have to have something special - materials, mechanism, quality… it’s harder and harder to find something interesting enough to make me part with my money these days. But I bought this one, because it’s different and it’s interesting. I got the blade hq one with ultem and Elmax. The tanto blade I have is actually stonewash on the top part and it looks awesome. I also live in CA and so this will not leave my house. But I love this knife, I’m thankful to Reate for making something like this. It’s awesome.
Haha great points man. What do you think of the ultem inlays? Also did your knife come with the domed pocket clip screw that interferes with deep carrying the knife in the pocket? I heard Reate was shipping newer knives with a flat screw head to fix this problem.
Someone needs to do a speed test between a one-handed opening of a gravity kinife and a knife with a thumb assisted blade opener. I'll bet the gravity knife loses every single time.
My biggest complaint with my EXO is the pocket clip. The cap head screw used creates a severe pinch point if you push it ALL the way in to the back of the clip. If you don't, it deploys nicely. Just be aware. I may try to replace the screw with a pan head screw if I can find one the right size. Oh, one other caveat: 3V rusts pretty easy if you're sweaty: I'd love to have seen this in Magna or in a DLC or coated blade.
One point not mentioned, the upper rear of the handle is begging to have the corners rounded off where they meet the palm. Kind of an oversight. That said, it's a fantastic tool. I have many options for carry, including CRKs, and this has remained in my pocket for the past few weeks since ownership. If you have the means, I highly recommend it.
@@perrywaaz3660 Is it still available? The kydex is well done. It snaps in place firmly, no jiggling. It covers up just the bottom, not most of the knife. It has holes on the sides for ulti-clips, paracord, etc.
I know you said that the first one isn't suitable for EDC, but I think it could work with a sheath/slip. The slip could sport its own pocket clip and possibly be designed to keep the knife closed when carrying and locked when in use (use the sheath as the handle).
Wonderful review (as always). I totally agree with you on the value of innovation. Moreover, I find this tactical maraca (😂) with addictive action to be pretty interesting.
Just bought the new OG exo with a tanto blade. Considering it has the pocket clip and lock now it’s definitely a usable large edc knife. Mine is the pvd coated version with anodized titanium inlays. Would love to see a review of the newer version. 👍
I enjoy having this one. I have yet to take it anywhere tho. Usually color coordinate my knives with my clothes & brown will have it’s time in the fall.
The 3V steel made me a bit iffy with this knife just due to the price but they now have it in Elmax steel with a Black and Green Burl Micarta that is the same $285 price so def will be looking to get that knife
Can we start deploying the gravity knifes like they're intended? Everyone seems happy to just let the blade drop out like it's fragile or something. Make it look badass, fcs
Nice review, thank you. Right now I mostly buy knives that I use and carry. But if one they I decided to start collecting knives, I would definitely focus on some werder knives like this Reate or Paragon Warlock.
I have something to address, this was a pretty good review (as always) and Nick did give Reate its due praise. However the rattling of this knife is not as excessive as he claims. It does rattle when closed (significantly less than expected) however if in use, meaning blade deployed and your hands are firmly wrapped around and holding the knife, there is absolutely zero rattle. Zero! Now there is a little blade play but you have to use the other hand to discover it. Just wanted to add that incase the rattle is what may turn some away as it has turned me from other blades in the past. This oneis definitely one of the coolest blades I own.
Two knives begging for a review from you @nickshabazz. The cheaper but great one first. Kizer Knives Begleiter XL. A knife that operates like a $200 knife for only $90. Truly a great knife with micarta scales. At #2 the B’yond EDC Pneumatic Actuator knife. It actually has a pneumatic piston as an assisted opening mechanism. Only knife out there that takes that approach to assisted opening.
The only time that I am concerned with rattle would be with ANY other knife other than a gravity knife. It is to be expected. I purchased one because of the history of the gravity knife . They were originally made for German paratroopers who may have landed in the trees or in some other precarious way. If their hands were bound or had limited motion, the hand could pull the knife from the stored area. The blade would drop with no extra help from the trooper. If the hand was bound, they could still use the knife. They have their place.
Flashes the Morpheus on us lowly beggars. I have little hope of affording or snatching the limited releases. It’s at the top of my list though. Maybe one day.
Nope, I just try to be sensitive that different folks from different backgrounds have wildly different experiences at work and out and about with law enforcement, and try to be cautious and talk about the worst experience, even when many folks would never have that problem because of who they are and the spaces they move in.
keeps the gimmick but adds minimal usability. I'd buy it with s30v for under $160, still a pricy fidget toy show piece, but the current price is way out of reach.
Im thinking of getting a cheap clone of this knife, no matter the quality I cannot justify the price for this. I found a replica with good reviews for $45
Thank you Nick for pointing out the rattling. I purchased one and to be honest I thought the blade was looser and rattled more than was necessary. I did not feel comfortable with how loose the blade was but guess that is the nature of the beast. I did send it back and the person contacted me and said it was normal but I guess I was expecting more. I guess not my cup of tea. I like a rock vault lockup.
That seems to be an excessive amount of "love" for a fidget spinner posing as a knife that no normal person has use for. In the end, I take issue with the claim that "Weird is always good". I think we are venturing off the rails here.
@NickShabazz no but you and your other youtube knife friends and the lawyers you can afford/have time donated to would be a group California new York.... would think twice about.

A strange beautiful thing that's probably only legal in 3 states and 5 countries.
Legal in most US states to own. Carrying maybe not as much.
Probably fine to carry in most places outside of Europe and Murica

Paragon Warlock is ~$350+ and it's also a gravity knife. This seems reasonable by comparison.
Wish there was more said about ergonomics. The handle seems kinda big and boxy.
I looked up the kerambit and it's sold out everywhere
its so important that designers understand how bored we are with knives at this point.
Is this not discontinued? I’ve been wanting one but they’ve been out of stock for a while now
They didn’t produce nearly enough to meet demand.
My guess is it was a marketing choice.
