- Today, we'll take a look at a knife that's very strange, very legally complicated, very well done, and weirdly, actually a reasonable tool: The Reate Exo-M.
- แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
I love mine a lot, it’s rattling is whatever, I’m use to it, but I mainly bought it for making my own blades to try steels on the cheap, it’s dead simple to make them, no need to machine perfectly, just get 1/8 inch stock, the tabs take care of the action unlike blades on pivots that need to be fitted perfectly. This is a pretty good little knife honestly, it is begging for customizations.
What an awesome idea. Are you uploading any of this project anywhere? I'd love to see it
@@peteg22397 I’m waiting for some steel and zirconium to come in, if people are interested, I can upload here on TH-cam, maybe some pics on redit knife groups or somewhere,
That's cool
I really wish people would make blades with different steels and sell them. That'd be an easy swap and so awesome.
@@SMS2884 my thoughts exactly, I never understood why people don’t, so I’m just going to do it myself and see how it goes, I can’t imagine it being too bad with a knife like this at all. It’s such a simple design.
My crazy "legal " knife story.
At a city council meeting in my hometown after going through the metal detector I forgot my Buck 110 auto was in my pocket. I hand it to the police chief with the magnet wand hicky and he says "when did they make the 110 an auto". I said " about 3 weeks ago". He says ' cool'. Hands it back to me and I go into the meeting. Needless to say people were highly confused.
And very polite?
Outside of a small handful of big cities, how legal or illegal a knife is is highly dependent on how dumb the person carrying it is. It's even more relevant than the actual law, in a lot of cases.
Edit: In the US.
@@YanDoroshenko Totally polite.
No officer, it’s not a knife, it’s a tactical Miracca.
Thanks for the Knife review. I can always count on you for your honesty. I feel like when I watch your channel. I'm actually getting an honest review. Thank you. I appreciate you everything you do for the community.❤ You are honestly my favorite thank you for everything you do
I love seeing you review these "not very Nick" knives.
You forgot to mention something in the "Good" section. This knife has an integrated audio camouflage allowing you to disguise yourself as a rattlesnake to your adversaries during those covert desert assignments.
Man it’s nice to have you back!
You’re truly the best at explaining these knives love your channel your the best
It’s a knife for knife guys. I have maybe 25 knives, I’m not buying knives because I need them anymore. They have to have something special - materials, mechanism, quality… it’s harder and harder to find something interesting enough to make me part with my money these days. But I bought this one, because it’s different and it’s interesting. I got the blade hq one with ultem and Elmax. The tanto blade I have is actually stonewash on the top part and it looks awesome. I also live in CA and so this will not leave my house. But I love this knife, I’m thankful to Reate for making something like this. It’s awesome.
Haha great points man. What do you think of the ultem inlays? Also did your knife come with the domed pocket clip screw that interferes with deep carrying the knife in the pocket? I heard Reate was shipping newer knives with a flat screw head to fix this problem.
So one can order and have delivered knives not legal to carry in CA? Whoa
I’ve only been collecting for 2 months now and I have 7 knives. I bought this one and LOVE it. It’s fidgety, fun, beautiful, very safe (your hands never get close to the blade), and a piece of art.
"The sky is your oyster." ~ Nick 2023
Thinking too hard about that troubles me.
A great Nickism
Wonderful review (as always). I totally agree with you on the value of innovation. Moreover, I find this tactical maraca (😂) with addictive action to be pretty interesting.
The Kizer Cormorant stands out as a great fidget knife with the new micarta grip released this year, love it! Looking at getting this one too
Nice review, thank you.
Right now I mostly buy knives that I use and carry. But if one they I decided to start collecting knives, I would definitely focus on some werder knives like this Reate or Paragon Warlock.
I enjoy having this one. I have yet to take it anywhere tho. Usually color coordinate my knives with my clothes & brown will have it’s time in the fall.
The fidget factor is extremely satisfying. Gotta get one!
this was a gReate review. thanks nick
One point not mentioned, the upper rear of the handle is begging to have the corners rounded off where they meet the palm. Kind of an oversight. That said, it's a fantastic tool. I have many options for carry, including CRKs, and this has remained in my pocket for the past few weeks since ownership. If you have the means, I highly recommend it.
I have something to address, this was a pretty good review (as always) and Nick did give Reate its due praise. However the rattling of this knife is not as excessive as he claims. It does rattle when closed (significantly less than expected) however if in use, meaning blade deployed and your hands are firmly wrapped around and holding the knife, there is absolutely zero rattle. Zero! Now there is a little blade play but you have to use the other hand to discover it. Just wanted to add that incase the rattle is what may turn some away as it has turned me from other blades in the past. This oneis definitely one of the coolest blades I own.
That is a beautiful, fun looking knife!
A strange beautiful thing that's probably only legal in 3 states and 5 countries.
Legal in most US states to own. Carrying maybe not as much.
Probably fine to carry in most places outside of Europe and Murica
U r not bright
Colorado is legal.
Good to go in Ohio.
Cool knife, but strange. Good to see something different. Thanks 🔪🎸
My biggest complaint with my EXO is the pocket clip. The cap head screw used creates a severe pinch point if you push it ALL the way in to the back of the clip. If you don't, it deploys nicely. Just be aware. I may try to replace the screw with a pan head screw if I can find one the right size. Oh, one other caveat: 3V rusts pretty easy if you're sweaty: I'd love to have seen this in Magna or in a DLC or coated blade.
Now it's made with Elmax! ❤
I know you said that the first one isn't suitable for EDC, but I think it could work with a sheath/slip. The slip could sport its own pocket clip and possibly be designed to keep the knife closed when carrying and locked when in use (use the sheath as the handle).
If you buy the right version it comes with a kydex sheath
Nick, could you do a similar review for the mini? I’m curious whether it has a similar outcome to this
Hey Nick if you want to take a look at a knife that is definitely different, then take a look at the Böker Sprocket.
Two knives begging for a review from you @nickshabazz. The cheaper but great one first. Kizer Knives Begleiter XL. A knife that operates like a $200 knife for only $90. Truly a great knife with micarta scales. At #2 the B’yond EDC Pneumatic Actuator knife. It actually has a pneumatic piston as an assisted opening mechanism. Only knife out there that takes that approach to assisted opening.
Paragon Warlock is ~$350+ and it's also a gravity knife. This seems reasonable by comparison.
Hey nick, do you by any chance have a Flytanium Arcade on the way to you?
The 3V steel made me a bit iffy with this knife just due to the price but they now have it in Elmax steel with a Black and Green Burl Micarta that is the same $285 price so def will be looking to get that knife
I just got that exact model (elmax and burl) and I'm happy I splurged on it. In case you were still thinking about it
LOVE the Exo. When they release one with the lock and a longer blade, I probably won't be able to not buy one.
Wish there was more said about ergonomics. The handle seems kinda big and boxy.
I want one of these
Can we start deploying the gravity knifes like they're intended? Everyone seems happy to just let the blade drop out like it's fragile or something. Make it look badass, fcs
Still waiting for the Exo Mini.
The only time that I am concerned with rattle would be with ANY other knife other than a gravity knife.
It is to be expected.
I purchased one because of the history of the gravity knife .
They were originally made for German paratroopers who may have landed in the trees or in some other precarious way.
If their hands were bound or had limited motion, the hand could pull the knife from the stored area.
The blade would drop with no extra help from the trooper.
If the hand was bound, they could still use the knife.
They have their place.
Flashes the Morpheus on us lowly beggars. I have little hope of affording or snatching the limited releases. It’s at the top of my list though. Maybe one day.
I just bought one. But, mine blade is in Elmax. Much better option than 3V for this knife.
"Pleasure to play with"
Oh man, there's a switch lock now? I have the 1st run w/the little kydex sheath
How is that sheath? I'm a lefty so I can't use the lock anyway and I like big knives so if the sheath is good I want that one
@@perrywaaz3660 Is it still available? The kydex is well done. It snaps in place firmly, no jiggling. It covers up just the bottom, not most of the knife. It has holes on the sides for ulti-clips, paracord, etc.
I prefer knives on the smaller side . I wish they would make one just a little smaller in the 2.5" blade range.
Apparently they just did, fyi. 2.5 inch blade, otherwise the same
I need a t-shirt that says "sufficiently strange"
Interesting piece not sure why it's more illegal than any other OTF or your run of the mill sliding utility knife.
It's definitely a cool knife!
Someone needs to do a speed test between a one-handed opening of a gravity kinife and a knife with a thumb assisted blade opener. I'll bet the gravity knife loses every single time.
Is this not discontinued? I’ve been wanting one but they’ve been out of stock for a while now
They didn’t produce nearly enough to meet demand.
My guess is it was a marketing choice.
White mountain knives and smoky mountain knife work has plenty of elmax ones right now, snag one before they dry up again
It is a new version.
I looked up the kerambit and it's sold out everywhere
I am that jackass, and have no issue saying. Have two of them, one in ELMAX. Very pleased with them, although one is smoother than the other.
you sir are funny :) great review
😂 Tactical maraca! My new moniker for this knife!
its so important that designers understand how bored we are with knives at this point.
I'm here for the tactical maracas.
Castanet was a good one btw haha
keeps the gimmick but adds minimal usability. I'd buy it with s30v for under $160, still a pricy fidget toy show piece, but the current price is way out of reach.
They should make this in a pocket sword length. Like 5" or more. 😂
Double edge dagger blade just to make it even more highly illegal I persume?
Not in Wi.
✨️🤩👍 - Noice Nick! U rock!✨️
⭐️*⭐️*⭐️*⭐️*⭐️
Does anyone actually carry one of these on a daily basis?
I like it. It's weird. I really like the K. I'm really weird!
such a missed opportunity to put the lock in the spine and make it ambidextrous. Create design though
NYSRPA V BRUEN confirms the right to keep and bear arms, all arms, including knives.
Thanks batman----
Actually they are only illegal in Delaware.
%100 legal in my adopted state of Indiana.
Im thinking of getting a cheap clone of this knife, no matter the quality I cannot justify the price for this. I found a replica with good reviews for $45
I consider all maracas tactical.🧐
at this point im wondering if nick has bad experiences with HR and knives
Nope, I just try to be sensitive that different folks from different backgrounds have wildly different experiences at work and out and about with law enforcement, and try to be cautious and talk about the worst experience, even when many folks would never have that problem because of who they are and the spaces they move in.
3v is likely to survive accidental drops!
No officer, it identifies as a tooth pick
I liked this and resented NY knife laws until I heard that rattle.
I’m good. 😂
Thank you Nick for pointing out the rattling. I purchased one and to be honest I thought the blade was looser and rattled more than was necessary. I did not feel comfortable with how loose the blade was but guess that is the nature of the beast. I did send it back and the person contacted me and said it was normal but I guess I was expecting more. I guess not my cup of tea. I like a rock vault lockup.
Then you'll want a Hawk Deadlock if you want any OTF...
@@NickShabazz Thanks Nick, I’ll check it out. I enjoy your analysis, candor and knowledge.
I dropped mine onto concrete the first time I opened it... like an absolute buffoon.
PERFECT FOR BAGELS & THE OCCASIONAL BRISS EH RABBI?
Gravity isnt real, but these knives are
Spanish guitar.
In my opinion this is a self defense knife and for that a double edge dagger would be best . 🤷🏻♂️
What about this makes you think it's primarily designed or suited for use as a weapon
Joe Pesci...
Metal Complex is a much better collector and knowledgeable individual when it comes to knives
you mean, he is on the same level
That seems to be an excessive amount of "love" for a fidget spinner posing as a knife that no normal person has use for. In the end, I take issue with the claim that "Weird is always good". I think we are venturing off the rails here.
I hate cali laws. All of them are stupid but hey, you can get a 950 dollar discount on stores if you wear a mask...
***** Obviously a discount joke
Oh nick i know you have the money and pull. I expect you to carry that anyway and dare a cop!
Sadly, I'm that kind of well off where I'm doing OK, but don't own senators and judges such that laws no longer apply to me.
@NickShabazz no but you and your other youtube knife friends and the lawyers you can afford/have time donated to would be a group California new York.... would think twice about.
@NickShabazz like you could get together, and challenge any silly knife laws you like.
🌹 'PromoSM'
Tactical maracas 🪇 😂
I agree you must always wait until AFTER the ice is broken before you take out the knives. Breaking the metaphorical ice with a knife is likely to get the cops called on you 😂
