    Agree with all your points man. Sadly so many safety standards have changed since the crown vic was discontinued that if they ever brought it back....it would not even be close to what it used to be. From also working active LEO duty and owning more than 6 crown vics...the Explorer is NOT bad at all....AWD. more room in the trunk. more safety features handles better etc....the crown vic will ALWAYS be a legend but the times have certainly changed...it says alot that they are STILL on patrol till this day

      Mr. Random!!! Thanks for watching! Yea the Interceptor Utility, the Chevy Tahoe, and the Durango are the way to go, unfortunately, they're more expensive than the Charger Pursuit (only police sedan in production) eventually, I can see my department going with Durangos if the Charger Pursuit gets discontinued since it's the cheaper option of the three.
      Hey man, I would love to meet you one of these days! I'll definitely race you with Victorino my supercharged Crown Vic build on the 1/4 mile lol

    I think they where the best police interceptor back then and they still going strong thats why i have two of them 03 and 08 and some people souping them up with supercharger or putting coyote engines in them. They still have alot of potential and price going up on them.

    In my book, the Crown Victoria will always be THE police (and taxi) car. It's big and tough, had a V8 (though underpowered), and is indeed comfortable and spacious, all advantages over cars today. Not to mention, it was used by the force in its entire lifespan of 1979-2011. Yes, sadly it's no longer the dominant car, but it will always have the strong reputation. I'm glad to have a classic 1989 LX.

    I have Crown Vic Sport 250,000 and Marauder great cars. Lots of police depts still using hope they will continue to be in service for some time. But the reality of the situation is the clock is ticking.
    Was yr Vic refurbished painted, new motor, trans etc.?
    99 percent of police I have talked to wish they still used the Vics. They use the Explorers but wish the Vics still in service.

      Hey, thanks for watching! Nope mine is still on the original engine and transmission. The passenger side fender and front end including the bumper cover were replaced before me from a crash. Tranny has been serviced by the drop the pan method only. Since I had it oil changes were regularly done at 3,000 to 3,500 miles. From the looks of it, Crown Vics are going to stay for at least 5 more years with my department. Until they reach 200,000 miles and something breaks that will cost more than 2k to fix. At that point, they will look at putting it down.

    Right on AC,
    I've never seen a review from a LEO of an in service Vic. This was neat.
    Do you think they should have made 4WD an option for snow States etc. ?
    Or maybe that increase maintenance down time, and reduce reliability?
    -Chuck

    • @CollazosGarage
      @CollazosGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well, for over 20+ years RWD was fine lol I think stability control, coyote engine, or even the 3.7L on the panther would've made it excellent. Those PTUs on the interceptors were getting trashed quickly due to only having half a quart of gear oil in them but I think ford kinda fixed the problem now. I haven't heard too many complaints about the PTUs going out. So yes, I think AWD on the Crown Vic would've caused reliability issues.
      My department is now only going with the Dodge Chargers pursuits with the 3.6L AWD and I should be getting mine soon, so we'll see how those go lol
      Thanks for watching Chuck!

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CollazosGarage
      The reason I said 4WD instead of AWD is just for the reasons you explained.
      I meant using the front running gear of the F-150 Truck platform. I think those are more durable, and reliable than the current AWD systems.

    • @CollazosGarage
      @CollazosGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@PanzerPlatform ohh, yeah I agree, but then you'll have a rookie that will drive it on 4wd low or high all the time LOL, and the car will weigh a lot more so I don't know but yeah, that's a good point. I would also think it might affect the pursuit rating by the Michigan state police tests etc, honestly, the panther should've never been discontinued. All the "technology upgrades" could've also been implemented to the CVPI and I'm sure engineers could've come up with a good AWD or 4WD system to beat FCA(Charger)or Chevy (caprice) but instead, they decided to stop making sedans. Great video. I agree, at speed you feel you can keep it under you. I have a '05 and at a hundred it feels solid. I put after market swaybar bushings front and rear. Polyurethane bushings. That made I big difference in handling. They're not a racecar, but they will run and if you take care of it, it will last long after the Charger falls apart.

    Call me insane, but I think they should bring it back. Keep it body on frame, RWD with on demand 4WD as an option, and bring back the 5.4L DOHC 4V (Natural Aspiration) and update it to be more durable and powerful. All they’d need to update is cosmetics and lighting. Keep the headlight and brake light housing overall the same, just updated and LED. Keep the giant hood and giant trunk, but make the cabin section more aerodynamic with the pillars to be a little more horizontally angled. And if they insist, make the rear suspension independent. That’d be FAST and awesome.

    My first 07 I had for 6yrs put 120k on it parked it with 250k did a water pump thermostat, batery, two junkyard rear ends. O2 sen, drivers side. exh. manifold & clock spring. Fan motor,, Took it to fla twice from Boston. Drove it to Mr Random"s crown vic rally last year, but didn't get there in time. So just kept going on to fla for the heck of it.
    That old girl never skipped a beat..
    Can't seem to let it go, it's out back now resting. I almost feel bad I was so hard on it. But anyway
    Just bought a 2nd one with 134k nice & clean & shiny - tight, quit, original.
    I'm trying to baby this one. (trying)
    I can't justify the prices on the explorer's and I just don't think there even close on reliability from what I've read & heard.
    It would be nice to make people's blood run cold again when they see me coming but not for that kind of money ✌

    IMO speed and acceleration are not really even a factor these days as many departments have banned pursuits. The policy these days is, get the license plate and let them go. And I agree. Unless they have killed someone, it isn't worth the further risk of innocent life by pursuing them at high speed. The CVPI is roomy, comfortable, simple, plenty fast enough, easy and cheap to repair. And IMO looks pretty badass and intimidating. Not to mention it will take a beating and keep on going. There's a reason it's still in service 10 years after production ended. The Taurus is lucky if cabbies are even using it in 10 years. Let alone any police department.

    Here in Phoenix, AZ I often get compliments from LEO's on my 2011 CVPI. They mention how they hate the Ford FPIU, how it has such poor acceleration, lacks room and isn't comfortable to drive.
    One thing I am curious about is what are all the different antennas for? I have four plugs on my trunk,( in a diamond pattern) four on my roof (also in a diamond pattern) with an additional large plug near the middle passenger side of my roof. No idea what they were used for. I have searched all over TH-cam and no one had provided an explanation for that the various antennas are used for.

    • @CollazosGarage
      @CollazosGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey! Thanks for watching! Usually, roof antennas are for in-car radio, trunk antennas are for internet/GPS. But, sometimes they'll just put them where ever. A lot of times plugs or circular holes were for radio antennas and boxes, diamond-shaped or sometimes circular shaped, or like the antennas on my truck are for Internet and GPS.
