Original and unreleased instrumental version of 1995 gem "Somethin' 4 Tha Mood" from DJ Quik's classic album Safe & Sound.
Unreleased OG version contains hook performed by Danny Boy.
Retail version (final) released on Safe & Sound album contains hook by 2nd II None.
The OG instrumental is slowed down a little bit, Rhodes chords, bassline, lead synths and the drums sounds different. The electric guitar played by Rob Bacon remained the same.

Really interesting to hear how this song developed. IMO, the album version is the best record ever made. Period. It's one of those moments where everything aligned just perfectly. Chazzy Green was an essential contributor. As great as the song is, the events that take place at the 4:12 mark are beyond explination. Thanks for posting this.

The original name of the song is stepping by Danny boy, this beat is a reprise version of something for the mood🤔🤔 at the time Death Row's format of making hit records consists of various artists doing their own versions of songs to the beat and whoever had the best song kept the beat and it went on from there.
yes but DJ Quik finally made different beat for "Steppin" song on Danny Boy debut album. This beat landed on Safe + Sound album with changed sounds but main drums, guitars are the same.

Yes it's Danny Boy, he really can make that smooth, laidback hooks. Just listen to "Can I Come Over" or some other songs from his Death Row album "It's About Time" - a real G-Funk / R&B gem, it's a shame it wasn't released back in 95 / 96.
