FIX Bose Soundlink Mini Speaker if it does not charge or connect properly

    If your Bose Soundlink Mini Speaker is not turning on or not charging, it could be due to a firmware update that is needed. The red LED above the power button will be flashing red and the speaker will not charge. This is how I fixed mine.
    If that does not work, connect the speakers to your PC or Mac with a good quality USB cable and update the firmware from this link:
    btu.bose.com/#s...
    From the Bose site, here are some other options to try. Mine only needed the firmware update. Good luck!
    -- Make sure your speaker is connected to a working AC (mains) outlet
    -- Make sure you are using the Bose power supply that shipped with your speaker, or a Bose accessory charger
    -- If you are using a surge protector, try plugging directly into a working wall outlet
    -- Visit btu.bose.com/ to see if your product has the latest firmware
    -- If the above steps are not successful, you can also try temporarily putting the speaker into “Ship mode” which will reboot the internal processor. To put the speaker into Ship mode, follow these steps:
    -- Connect the speaker to power
    -- Press and hold the Multi-function button for 10 seconds
    -- While continuing to hold the Multi-function button, unplug the speaker from power
    -- Release the Multi-function button
    The product is now in Ship mode. This is essentially a fully "off" state and it will have no power or functionality. To take the product out of Ship mode and wake it up, just connect it to power. We recommend you allow it to charge for at least 1 hour.
    Note: Putting the system into Ship mode reboots the processor, but does not erase any settings, like language selection or paired Bluetooth devices.

    *ADVICE If your having trouble connecting your device to the update installer and it seems to not be doing anything, switch browsers. I use Brave and thought it just wouldn't work, reopened in Microsoft Edge and the update worked fine.

    Well you just saved me purchasing a new device. My soundlink stopped charging recently so followed your advice and hey presto, it now charges!!! Thank you. One thing I noticed is the firmware takes just a couple of seconds, which is great!

    Am going to try this tip just tomorrow,, thanks, I bought it from a friend but worked for me only one day and battery dried down forever,, now its a full year when not in use, let me hope the laptop will recognize it so that I do the update if available

    wow, my battery wasn't charging and this update did the trick. Thank you!! I spoke to 2 different representatives at Bose, after selecting the troubleshooting department... NONE of them suggested to run this update!! They just said I had to return it. Realy unimpressed with them...

    Brother you have helped me immensely. I was getting so frustrated to have to get out the wonky charger every time when needing it for my computer while having a cable that fits 5cm away but didn't work. Now it does and I'm very appreciative!

    I have one of the newer ones. The update didn't work, but just telling me about the Bose troubleshooting site helped and I was able to get it working again. I just needed to do the 10 second reset and it was charging again.

    Thank you for sharing, Pilot Jon. My Soundlink Mini II speaker's charge capability had glitched out and it would not charge until I pressed and held down the center button on top of the cabinet for 10 seconds and that cleared the glitch. It was already updated and the power supply was OK.

    I tried all fixes from all similar videos and nothing worked.
    I let the battery run right down until I got the 'battery low' warning message, plugged it back in and voila! It's now charging! 👍

    Don't worry about using a higher amperage charger. The charging current is controlled by the device, not the charger.

    I have had the Bose Sound Link version 1, and it has had this issue for about 2 years now, and I just kind of stopped using it.
    But recently I was thinking about getting a new speaker, when I thought about trying to fix this one.

    You can use a higher current charger, that BOSE charger at 1600ma is what the BOSE draws while charging, you could use a 20amp charger or a 5 amp, it will only draw 1.6amp while charging. This is why smaller bricks, say a 500ma, are inferior for charging as they take 3 times longer to charge.

    Oh my god you ledgend. I changed the battery still no joy. Sold it on eBay for less than the cost of the new battery with both batteries included. As I thought either that or the bin. Buyer took ages to pay. So I thought let’s see if I fixed correctly. Did this update, pumping tunes as I write this. Thanks pal

    Your video is great! I just replaced the battery but the light was blinking red. I could not explain why. Thanks to TH-cam, I found your video and tried the updater. It worked perfectly 👍👍👍
    Lesson learned: run the updater after replacing the battery.

    Terrific! Still didn’t work after the update. I scrolled through all the comments And someone mentioned to hold the power or the pause button down for 20 seconds I did that, mine took one whole minute for the yellow charging icon to stay on. Thank you so much!

    Thanks! I wasn’t able to update mine in the link provided but I followed the hold the multifunction button then disconnect power with in connected to the original charger platform and plug. That worked! It took a few seconds but all lights flashed back on, the charge light went to amber and it is now charging. Other instructions tell you to push the multifunction button and hold it but they fail to mention unplugging it so that had never worked before. And I couldn’t update it because my model is older than what was provided and I could not get the update to work. So your other fix was great!

    USB chargers with higher available current are not the problem. They will charge some devices faster, and cause more heat in the device, only if those devices allow faster charge rates.
    After much searching for trouble with my Bose Soundlink II Mini that has Micro USB connections and only fails to charge on the cradle, the problem turned out to be the cable between the wall unit and the base. This was due to voltage drop in the cable, plus the voltage drop in the cradle.
    New units are now sold with USB-C which can negotiate the charging voltage with the wall unit for faster charging when power is available.
    I think Jon's issue was the need to reset the cpu and associated charger circuit in the speaker unit.

      My computer says the updater is ready but when I plug the speaker in it stays on that screen. Do you know how to fix it? It says use the usb cable provided which I don’t have. But does that really make much of a difference?

    My older Bose mini speaker wasn't connected for a couple of months, I just noticed it wouldn't charge when I turned it on, but it did make a noise when I connected it to the base, but that is all. It doesn't have those 3 lights in the middle, I'd given up on it. While watching this video and it was connected I pressed the on/off switch in for a long time, I forgot I was even doing that, then it jump started it, and is now happily charging away!

    Mine stopped taking a charge so I just assumed I needed a new battery. I found one on Amazon for 40 bucks and placed the order. Just for the heck of it I reinstalled the old one and it fired right up, and it's been fine ever since!

      @@tarangerina Peel the rubber base off and that will expose the little screws. There are 4 small Torx head screws. I forget which size maybe number 8 or 10.

      @@tarangerina Yeah, it was driving me nuts too. So I removed the battery in order to purchase and install a new one, but then I read about people who just reinstalled the old battery and it somehow worked. So far, so good. Mine has been working like a brand new speaker.

    FYI - if the holding down the power button trick (holding down for 10/15 sec then unplugging) doesn’t work try holding down the play/pause button instead, I had the same problem

    Hi Jon, thanks for the info! I was on Brave and just not getting the app to launch, or do anything, when I found your comment, so I went to Edge as suggested and I got the same screen that you showed, but when I connected my Soundlink II Color, nothing happened, no screen change or anything. I've tried about six different power cords, just in case, but all the same - any suggestions? When I turn on the device it says: "Battery low, please charge now - Ready to connect!" Do I need to press any buttons on speaker? I've tried with it turned on and off. My power button is flashing orange, and my input mode button light is staying on (white), I sure would appreciate any input! Thanks so much!

    My computer says the updater is ready but when I plug the speaker in it stays on that screen. Do you know how to fix it? It says use the usb cable provided which I don’t have. But does that really make much of a difference

    Wonderful video, I wasn't having trouble with recharging but trying to get mine to pair well the update worked. Got that page saved now. I do have a question though. The middle button on top of the speaker, 2 little dots and 1 big dot in the middle. I cannot find anywhere what that button means. Could you please help me out on that one?

    I got the same issue, but every time I have to charge the unit, I have to clear errors (using Bose Updater) if I do not do it , it simple, it won't be fully charged

    updated it and it worked for a few days and now red flashing again. does that mean I need a new battery?

    I have the original bose soundlink mini and mine wont charge. I couldn't find a update for it the bose website. I tried to change the battery and it still wont power up. I also tried to do a hard reset, that didn't work either.

    My soundlink mini 2 will make the noise indicating that it has started charging but will immediately turn back to a solid orange and not charge. Whenever I try to install an update it just says the battery is too low to start the update. I've tried charging from computers and outlets for long periods and still nothing works. I am totally stumped and need some help.

    Seems like the bose soundlink I is not supported anymore :(( at least not in germany, I don't have an option to update firmware
