    Beautiful. Thank you very much. I wish you could show us how you finally used it as a background on one of your projects. I mean I hope you can show us the final result after putting a foreground object on them. Appreciate it.

      Thanks, it was my pleasure! 😊 I made this piece 8 years ago, and I cut it up and used the pieces to make several ATCs (Artist Trading Cards). I didn’t film that process, unfortunately, but I made something similar at a later date and filmed it, and, at the end of that video, I showed some examples of things I made with it. Here’s a link for you: th-cam.com/video/fKi-wKLu0_8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CO5ToZrEALcSrjKD

    You should combine the alcohol drops with the plastic wrap technique, and see what you get in the end. Just a suggestion, love the video.

    One tip if I may, the plastic that you peeled off in the end after drying, do not discard them, after you complete your card stock decoration completely, instead of modge podging it, place back the same cling that you peeled off, place the cardstock and the cling wrap lined on top amidst a bunch of newspapers and iron it out at medium heat for a good 1 min, the cling wrap will melt and form a perfect glossy finish to the cardstock, helps you save on wasting modge podge. :)

    Thank you very much for this lovely tutorial. Please can you tell me why you use gesso at the beginning and what happens if we don't use it. Thank you again.

    • @CatHand
      @CatHand  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, you’re very welcome! In this technique, the purpose of the gesso layer is to make the paper less absorbent. Your paint needs to be very wet - almost puddled - sitting on top of your paper when you lay down the plastic wrap. Without the gesso, the watery paint will just soak into the paper and you won’t get that cool “broken glass” look when it’s dry. If you don’t have gesso, you can try using a layer of white acrylic/craft paint. Happy creating! 😊

  • @melanieevaldi6468
    @melanieevaldi6468 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very cool, thanks for sharing this idea. I'll definitely try this for my hippy journal. I'm surprised the paper didnt curl up more while drying.

    • @CatHand
      @CatHand  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Melanie. I’m sure it did curl some. I always roll my curled papers on the edge of my table, the opposite way, and they straighten out pretty well. 😊

    I am so enjoying watching your videos. What I like is that they are simple but SO beautiful. I am training myself up with Gelli Art for a summer project with my 9 year old daughter. We are just about ready to get started.
    *Could I ask, could we use the alcohol technique on the gelli Art pad, or would it ruin the pad? I like it so much..... a little like you get from using rock salt. Thanks again for making me very happy! Just love what you do (have watched A LOT of videos now, as I'm disabled and have a lot of time on my hands at the moment... and I can honestly say, I have got more out of your videos than any of the others. Best wishes, H xxx

      +Holly Tomas Thank you, Holly. The Gelli Arts company says you can clean your gelli plate with hand sanitizer, which contains alcohol, so I would assume you could drip alcohol on the plate and it wouldn't hurt it - but I've never tried it so I'm not completely sure. I really appreciate your sweet comments and I hope you and your daughter have a wonderful summer creating art together! 😊😊😊

    I've done this technique on smooth (glossy) cardstock with water colours. The key is that the ink/paint is wet enough!
    I didn't quite get it that you used alcohol in the dropper, although the circles that appeared reminded me of those of blending solution on paper with alcohol ink. ;-)

I think i would have a problem covering that up,it`s so gorgeous! Thank you for that Cat. I really want to give that a try. I wonder how it would look if you put a differnt color other that white as the the base? I think as long as it was a light color it would do fine...Like maybe yellow , then let that dry then put watered down orange and pink on top ...hmmmm..... now you have my mind working...lol Thanks again! Hugs! deb

      +Deb Terry You're welcome, Deb. I did do one with black underneath and bright (almost neon) colors on top. It's pretty, but not as striking as the white on the bottom. Your idea sounds lovely and a good experiment to try! :)

    Hi Cad I am new to your videos and I know already I am going to enjoy all the helpful info you are sharing! Two questions I would like to ask:- what is the board you are working on? What method do you use for finished painting , as a greeting card? Once again thanking you for lovely videos!

      @CatHand  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much - I'm glad you're enjoying my videos and I appreciate you watching! I use these techniques as backgrounds for art journal pages, Artist Trading Cards, greeting cards, etc. The work surface you see in my video is a craft mat. The one I'm using is no longer available, but I also use these cookie sheet liners that are the same material as the name brand craft mat that is sold in craft stores. They are cheaper and you get two in the package: www.amazon.com/Cookie-Sheets-Stick-PTFE-Liner/dp/B00JQKDZPW/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?ie=UTF8&dpID=51uVYBFqbJL&dpPl=1&keywords=cookie%20sheet%20liners&pi=SY200_QL40&qid=1459210239&ref=plSrch&ref_=mp_s_a_1_19&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&sr=8-19

    How would the alcohol go if you used a mister rather than a dripper?
    I'm seeing some fun ways to make some art pieces using canvas board that comes gesso primed.

    • @CatHand
      @CatHand  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michelle - With a lot of watery paint on your page (which you need for the alcohol to work) a fine mist will mostly disappear in the puddles. TFW! :)

    Very lovely papers. May I ask what type of alcohol you use for this? I know I'm really late to the party but I'm just getting started in mixed media and there is so much to learn.

    • @CatHand
      @CatHand  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Catherine. I don’t mind your question at all. 😊 I don’t remember exactly what alcohol I used, but it was isopropyl alcohol, 70% or 91% - either one will work. Since you’re just beginning your mixed media journey, I’d like to recommend my video series from a few years ago called Mixed Media Morsels. It shows some techniques on a small scale, which is less intimidating: th-cam.com/play/PLzaNcrENNXOw8J5vrjTA5ZDaHwOz773Xz.html
      When you open this playlist, don’t be surprised at the number of videos. I’ve been adding videos to this playlist for 7 years. The ones I’d like you to see are at the bottom of the list. Look for 2016 MIXED MEDIA MORSELS APPETIZERS. I think they will help you learn and they are sooo much fun to do! Happy creating! Cat 😊

    can I do this in a fabric? if so, what fabric should I use? Thank you love your videos

    • @CatHand
      @CatHand  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may not work well on fabric, because the fabric would absorb all the water paint, and you really need a non-porous surface for this technique to work. But I always say, just do a couple of experiments and see what happens... you may be surprised! TFW :)

      Thanks! 😊 Gesso is a primer that is used to protect and enhance surfaces, and makes them less absorbent. It also gives a slick surface “tooth” so that paint will adhere better.
