Absolutely brilliant! You truly are an inspiration for getting me back into collecting and painting! Thank you! Your skills as a painter AND video production are second to none! My hat off to you Sir
Thank You!!!!! Finally a simple, yet amazing wet blending tutorial that I can actually see, follow and try for myself. I had no idea this figure was available, as I'm more of a sci-fi collector/modeler, but now I WANT this figure, and the others that go with it, just for the sheer joy of painting and collecting them. The whole production value of your videos far excels those of many others I've seen, and I've loved every second of every video I've watched by you. You explain everything so clearly, show people how to mix and apply the paints vividly, and the background music in many of your videos is just transcendent (reminds me very much of Terry Oldfield (brother to Mike Oldfield of Tubular Bells fame), Phil Thornton and Steve Cragg, who produce the best New Age music I've heard in a long time. My skills improve daily after every video i watch, as I rush off to try the new techniques out for myself, and the results almost bring me to tears of joy. All in all, your videos are just the epitome of what's out there on TH-cam, and utterly addictive too (In the best way possible, of course :-D). Thanks again for all your videos, and the inspiration you bring to so many of us. All the very best Paul :-D
I always look forward to your Videos, since i love painting while "watching" them! You do amazing work, with that I am not only pointing towards your paint jobs! Much love from germany.
Seriously. One of the best TH-cam channels out there. I have a comic and game shop and your videos are playing on one of our tvs. Everyone loves them! Keep up the great work!
rakarth flesh is imo the best paint of any brand on the market. i love using it, and the diversity you get from it. thankyou for showing me yet another way to manipulate this colour with green tones. fantastic painting as usual :)
Well thats not fair. That was on a whole other level of painting to the rune golem and that was awesome. I need to lift my wet blending game thanks to this.
Your choice of colors and your technique is awesome as always. I really like what you did on that carapace and would be an excellent centerpiece on your undead army!
Ah this was so good. I must say, while I understand why FFG went with the candy-like colors to pop off of the box, I absolutely love your colour choices here. Great work!
Love the wet blending sorastro! One hung you can try since the body is basically tubular is to do the wet blending along the length of the mini but you'll have to move fast since it's a larger area and you need to watch out for build up between the carapace parts.
An excellent tutorial as usual; at the very beginning I was a bit worried, "he's not using the palette", after a few minutes things have come back to normality. ;) I liked a lot the quitine effect on the shell.
Loving your work, looks great and your video's inspire confidence that I could produce 'similar' results! ....also, anything new this week, I am addicted!
Thanks a lot Brian! I've just returned from a trip to America so I'm afraid it will be another week or so before my next video. I have however just published a quick guide for some of the other Runewars minis: sorastro.com/2017/04/13/runewars-quick-painting-guide/ :)
Excellent, I have recently bought Zombicide: Black plague, Blood Rage and Runewars after seeing your work, going to follow your guides for everything apart from Runewars, want to try and stamp my own style with army colours, not sure which way I am leaning just yet!
Words fail me. What an excellent slug! I know what I'll be doing tonight. Any suggestions for a more contrasted look between the flesh and a carapace? Would I just swap the wash on the flesh for a different tone?
Witch idiot gives here thumbs down??? Cannot understand this. Love your paint tutorials so much and you have the perfect voice for audiobooks. Please more off the same. 👍👍👍
Awesome video and really cool to see how you've evolved in your techniques over time, I'm just getting into painting and I'm basically just going to follow along with your videos to scale up. I have to assume at some point you tried a wet palette and decided it wasn't for you?
Thanks a lot Brad! I do actually use a wet palette sometimes when I'm just painting for myself/trying colours out. I think I still prefer a traditional palette for filming with because it helps me keep things organised and hopefully easy to follow. :)
+TheManAmongAll Thank you! I like individual colours from different lines, such as GWs Leadbelcher and Stormhost Silver, Vallejo's Chrome (VMA), and these ones from AP..
New to minatures painting here. Love your videos. Couple questions. 1: when do you water down the paint vs using it straight from the bottle? 2: do you recommend the army painters paints? 3: any tips or tricks for a begginer?
Thanks! OK 1) I nearly always thin my paints. The only time I wouldn't would be for something like dry brushing. 2) I think they're good value paints with so-so coverage, so for base colours I generally prefer Citadel or Vallejo. 3) I generally get all my beginner suggestions across in the first episode of a series: the latest would be the Star Wars Legion Luke video :)
Sorastro's Painting Thanks for the reply and answers! I'll look into vallejo. Ive seen citadel paints at my local game shops. Theyre pretty spendy but I realize theyre pretty much the go to for quality. A few more questions if you wouldnt mind. 1 Do you have any recommendations for brushes? 2. What do you do of you "over paint" example. Im painting a figure and got the bright blue for his robes on his flesh and belt. 3 lastly, do you know of a way to strip down plastic minis to start fresh? (Im painting the RuneBound minis so I assume theyre made of the same plastic as the rune wars minis)
+AppleseedInTheShell Hi again! 1) I usually use a Rosemary and Co Series 33 size 2 for most of my painting, and perhaps an older larger brush for transferring and mixing my paints. You can also see which brushes I use in each video description. 2) Just paint over it with the correct colour. 3) I use the brown Dettol antiseptic (widely available here in the UK) but I believe in the US Simple Green works just as well. Just soak the mini for several hours/over night and scrub it with an old toothbrush; the paint should pretty much fall off the mini. Then give it a good scrub in some warm, soapy water. :)
I liked the wet blended armour which was then tinted with purple. I do think you missed an opportunity to have the crystal spikes not be a bright colour but then they might have contrasted too much with the green pimples.
This is amazing work man, a true artist you are. Will you be doing any suggestion or painting videos on the standard undead infantry? I'm thinking, with the amount of gold, to cover them after black with a GW gold spray coat to knock out the armor. With this prove difficult to work with the other base coat colors, however?
Thanks Mark! I think that would be OK. I actually produced a PDF guide for the infantry which you can download here: sorastro.com/2017/04/13/runewars-quick-painting-guide/ :)
Fantastic video as always... How you don't win an award for youtube instructional videos is beyond me.... Anyhow, I was wondering, does it really matter if you do zenithal priming on this model? The colors are so bold and contrasting that the final outcome seems to not illustrate or benefit from the process. Perhaps you could show a side by side of the zenithal primed vs a standard primed paint job
Thanks so much Mike! You're pretty much correct about the zenithal process not having much influence on the final look of the piece - especially as it has quite a pale underbelly :)
Fantastic painting tutorial! Wet in wet painting looks so easy in your videos. Gosh I hope someday I'll be able to paint like you. Can I ask you something? Which brush do you use? The tip of the brush seems pretty stiff.
Love your video's. You are using the airbrush very frequently these days. I considering to use the technique in the future. Could you make a video on the materials you use? Tabletop Minions made a whole series, but I'm curious to know what you use. He for example uses a Iwata Eclipse HP-CS. I am completely new to the whole airbrushing. Thanks. A reply to my question will suffice if a small video is to much of hassle of course. cheers
Hi Alwin! Sorry for the late reply. I use the Iwata HP-C Plus (amzn.to/2ozbziX) which really is overkill for basic priming like this. I think a much cheaper airbrush would be fine for simple zenithal pre-shading :)
Great paintjob! Thanks for this amazing painting video/tutorial, it's nice to see how you made it. Will you also be uploading videos for the other miniatures e.g. the Reanimates and Spearmen!? Would be awesome to see, what you did with them :)! Best regards and keep up the good work :)!
Thanks a lot! I've actually published a quick visual guide for the reanimates and spearmen which you can find here: sorastro.com/2017/04/13/runewars-quick-painting-guide/ :)
Another amazing video and example of your artistry! How did you choose your shade colors at 9:58 ? That combination is amazing, and it makes the model look like a museum quality piece. Well done.
Thank you sir! I was just looking at some pictures of crabs and beetles and I thought those shades would capture the look I was inspired by. I also consciously wanted to link it to the blue/green theme of the army :)
Wow. Incredible results. I really like how you push the level of highlights beyond what you'd find in a realistic painting. Some of your best work (and that's saying a lot). : ) Also, looking into this "Miniatures" game - the Fantasy Flight's site says it isn't released yet. This is different from the Runewars Revised Edition board game?
Absolute awesome work! Just one question, are you still using the airbrush for priming this model? With black, grey and white, Like in episode 1 ? best regards from germany ;)
Hi Ben! That's a very good question.. I generally thin my paints with water but prefer to use Lahmian Medium when thinning the Shades because I find thinning them with water messes with their properties (flow etc) :)
Amazing video as always Sorastro! I was wondering if you had Citadel conversions for the following AP paints? Scaly Hide Ash Grey Mummy Robes Werewolf Fur Commando Green Thanks for the amazing video. I'm hoping we haven't seen the last of Runewars from you!
Thanks a lot James! I'm actually just packing for a trip to America today and haven't had time to do the conversions but I'll do them after I return next week. :)
Loved your video. My rider came out looking great so far. By any chance, do you have a playlist of the music you use and make? Would love to use it for writing.
+Andre Souza Hi Andre! Yes I will be painting the rest of the Blood Rage minis and I'd also love to paint some Arcadia Quest; I just need to finish some of my current series before taking on anything new. :)
HI Sorastro, i am currently working with all sort of Vallejo paints, but I am interested in the "new" AP paints. Can you tell me how the new AP paints changed in quallity compared with the old line/the Vallejo paints? (i found the old paints very bad) That would be very helpfull. Greetings
Hi Paintalist! This current line seems quite similar to the few that I tried a while ago from the older line. I will say that I do like the metallics from this new line. :)
Hey Sorastro, can I request you do a tutorial on painting things up like they're ivory and obsidian? I'm thinking of making a chess set from miniatures as a gift for someone and I want to do one side as obsidian and one side as ivory. Thanks.
Hi Michał! They're similar, except the Vallejo Glaze Medium also has a retarder in it which slows the drying time so it's really handy for wet blending :)
Hi Sorastro. I've noticed that you've started using the Vallejo paints more now, where you were using more Citadel earlier on. Is this because you are finding you like the Vallejo paints more, Vallejo contains more paint for the cost, a combination or some other reason? Thanks
Hi Jason! I like Citadel and Vallejo paints pretty equally. I sometimes find I like specific colours from Vallejo that would require mixing if I was using Citadel (like German Grey) in which case I'll go with the Vallejo :)
I've notice in a number of your videos you use a variety of shades, glazes and other technical paints. At this point I only have Nuln Oil and a brown wash from another company, I was wondering if there are any other colour washes or glazes that you consider must-haves?
Hi Oliver! I'm very fond of the Citadel Shades and think they're well worth having. The glazes are pretty cool too as they only tint the lighter areas :)
It always baffles me how much paint you put in your palette, I definitely can't afford that ammount of paint :D I see that sometimes you mix paints in a well of the palette that has already a thick layer of dried paint in it, it doesn't affect the new colour you're mixing?
Hi L'Utente! I might not be using as much paint as it seems, as the wells are quite small, plus the accumulated build-up of dried paint also makes them somewhat shallow. And no, the dried paint doesn't affect the new colours :)
Sorastro, would it have been easier, if for less steady painter, to paint the flesh first, then the carapace? I do understand, your level of skills doesn't warrant that sort of "precaution". But maybe my concern is moot, considering the late stage shading?
Next question.... What are you using to clean your brushes? I noticed what looked like water, but are you using any thinners or some kind of chemical? and how about for storage?
You always want to use water. A lot of people also use The Master's Brush Cleaner - it's a special soap for brushes that you can get at a lot of craft stores (such as Michaels). If you don't have that, some gentle dish soap works too :)
Heroes & Bosses I was at Michael's last night and saw it. I just wasn't sure if it would damage my brushes, so I wanted to wait. thank you for the Information!
+Stagism Hi Stagism! Yep - I posted one in this thread here: community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/245888-sorastros-painting/?do=findComment&comment=2706685 :)
Quick question... You always say to keep the paint thin, specially when highlighting... Do you simply use water? Perhaps it is simply your vast experience, but I found that it is easy to overdo the dilution and then the whole paint gets too much surface tension, getting too runny, not adhering to the mini and behaving more like a wash. Thoughts?
Hi DTM! Yes I usually just thin my paints with water. Learning to thin the paints is a very important skill and perhaps one I sometimes take for granted or don't explain as well as I could, but it seems that you are already getting a feel for when the paint is too thin; you just have to add a bit more paint to thicken it up until you get it to behave the way you want. It will certainly get easier with a bit of practice :)
With the quality of your videos and your style, I think you have a great opportunity here to put together a tutorial series, from the beginning to advance skills... and monetize it... Hope you do it some day!
Hi Damon! Well that really depends on how pink you want to go, but I think Rakarth Flesh would be fine, but I wouldn't use the same shade that I did; you could try something like an Agrax Earthshade/Druchii Violet mix instead to achieve a more pinkish look. :)
Hi Aaron! Yes - at the time FFG had a partnership with Army Painter and as part of the commission arrangements I was asked if I would mind using some of the AP range in the video. :)
PS I posted a conversion chart here for non Army Paint users: community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/245888-sorastros-painting/?do=findComment&comment=2706685 :)
Hey that's understandable! I love your videos I think they are the best paint videos on TH-cam and have really helped me since I am just starting out. Although you make it look easier than it is! May I suggest that I'm about a year you try to make videos on the CMON Rising Sun as it should be coming out around then. Gives you sometime to plan. And the sculpts look amazing! Anyways thank you very much for all your hard work and great videos.
Hi Joe! I was sent a bunch of AP paints to use for this video and I was happy to try them out but will generally be sticking mostly to Citadel and Vallejo. :)
I would love to hear your perspective on the various brands of paint out there - the pros and cons. I'm new to the hobby and have started with Army Painter, due mostly to an attractive price and seemingly decent quality. But I would love to hear other people's experience.
For some reason my army painter paints don't seem to give very good coverage. It doesn't matter if I use them straight from the pot or if I water them down. They always have a slight transparency to them and end up looking very chalky. Does anyone here have any tips for working with army painter paints?
Hi SnowBlind125! I find AP paints are generally less opaque than other brands, which is why I mostly use them for highlighting in these videos, and not so much for laying down the base colours. :)
Thanks Apoc! That's a fair question, but no - this was a 2-episode commission so I'll be returning to my regular series now that they're done (as you can read in my monthly update: sorastro.com/2017/04/01/coming-soon-for-april-2/) :)
As cool as I think this stuff is, I have really shaky hands. I've tried to paint miniatures, took me about 5 hours to finish one little skeleton. It didn't look half bad, but nothing like this. Wish I had the patience for this kind of stuff lol
Absolutely brilliant! You truly are an inspiration for getting me back into collecting and painting! Thank you! Your skills as a painter AND video production are second to none! My hat off to you Sir
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words :)
I don't have this game but I'm tempted to get it after watching your painting videos. I like painting more than playing.
Well it sure is a fun game to paint (and play!) :)
All the very best
Paul :-D
Thanks a lot for the kind comments Paul - particularly regarding the music; very much appreciated sir! :)
I have really been blown away by these figures, I really like your color choices for your factions as well.
+Edward Patterson Thanks Edward! I think they've done a great job with these minis and they're so much fun to paint :)
I always look forward to your Videos, since i love painting while "watching" them! You do amazing work, with that I am not only pointing towards your paint jobs! Much love from germany.
Thanks a lot Tina! I'm happy to be able to keep you company whilst you paint :)
Seriously. One of the best TH-cam channels out there. I have a comic and game shop and your videos are playing on one of our tvs. Everyone loves them! Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much David! I'm curious to know where you're comic/game shop is now :)
We are Fantasy Shop Comics & Games - Maplewood and we are in St. Louis, MO, USA. I'll buy you a drink if you're ever in town!
Sounds good! :)
I have no idea how you continue to convince me that painting well beyond my abilities is within reach, but I love it.
Thank you! Maybe it really is within reach.. :)
Man, the theme you've composed for the RuneWars series is completely awesome! I find myself humming it.
Ha ha - that's a good sign! Thanks Malev :)
Very Diablo, haha.
Ah..if you mean the guitar theme then yes! I was totally inspired by the New Tristram theme; well spotted! :)
Looks awesome - the gradient makes the shiny carapace come alive. :)
Thanks Trond! That was my hope :)
Probably the best tutorial maker on TH-cam. As soon as you start Kingdom Death, I'm signing up for your patreon. I'm betting they'll be amazing.
Thank you Faithless Hero! I'm looking forward to finally painting my KDM minis.. :)
rakarth flesh is imo the best paint of any brand on the market. i love using it, and the diversity you get from it.
thankyou for showing me yet another way to manipulate this colour with green tones.
fantastic painting as usual :)
Thanks a lot Mark! I do like Rakarth Flesh too :)
These are... the coolest videos ever. Keep them up!
Thank you! I'll keep 'em coming :)
Well thats not fair. That was on a whole other level of painting to the rune golem and that was awesome. I need to lift my wet blending game thanks to this.
Doh! Thanks Ryan :)

you make me happy I bought the game... can't wait to paint them up and follow ur tuts
Awesome! Thanks ocarlo3 :)
I really enjoy everyone of your videos. Masterpieces of both film and painting and they just keep getting better and better! Keep it up :)
+Thaddeus Teo Thanks so much Thaddeus! I appreciate that :)
Awesome metallic gradiant! I will be attending the Stele Open and looking forward to meeting you! Your videos are so helpful and inspiring.
Thanks so much Evan! Look forward to seeing you there :)
I just wanted to say that you are doing great guides on the highest level! Wish you all the best and keep up being awesome! ^_^
Thank you so much Никита! I'll keep doing my best :)
Excellent work, I really feel inspired to get going on my Carrion Lancer!
+Max Brandt Thanks a lot Max! Do it - it's an amazing mini! 😀
An excellent tutorial as usual; at the very beginning I was a bit worried, "he's not using the palette", after a few minutes things have come back to normality. ;) I liked a lot the quitine effect on the shell.

That carapace really sets it off!
Thank you Jacob! It was pretty fun to work on :)
I,m really excited, waiting for your first Arcadia Quest Tutorial!!
Thanks Carlos! :)
Words fail me. What an excellent slug! I know what I'll be doing tonight. Any suggestions for a more contrasted look between the flesh and a carapace? Would I just swap the wash on the flesh for a different tone?
Thanks Efka! Sure - you could throw just Druchii Violet on there for a stronger purple-ish look, or perhaps mix some Reikland Fleshshade in? :)
Love your series on the different board games. Are you planning on showing the painting process of the other figures ?
Amazing job! I'll definitely be using these tutorials when my copy of the game comes in :)
Thanks a lot Vicky! Enjoy it :)
Witch idiot gives here thumbs down???
Cannot understand this.
Love your paint tutorials so much and you have the perfect voice for audiobooks. Please more off the same. 👍👍👍
Thanks a lot Kay86S! If my eyesight ever fails me then it's good to know I could turn to something like audiobooks :)
Will you be continuing this series of tutorials? I would live to see your ideas for the faction heroes.
Hi sir! It's not looking likely that I'll be covering any more Runewars I'm afraid (as much as I'd like to) :)
great work very good quality videos. Could you do a small review about your brushes?
Hi Πκ Δε-Μπεστ! I'd be happy to do a short video about brushes etc. :)
Very nice painting job and excellent video guide.
Thanks a lot Franki! I'm glad you liked it :)
Hello how are you a few months ago that I follow your videos are awesome thanks for showing us these painting techniques
Thanks a lot Victor! Much appreciated :)
your stuff will help me once i get these models as well as my Nurgle stuff once i get around to doing that again
Awesome! Thanks Volrath :)
Someone just gave me the game for my birthday and I loved how you did the back of the....worm..thing? yeah that's it! so i'm gonna try to do that

+TheManAmongAll Thank you! I like individual colours from different lines, such as GWs Leadbelcher and Stormhost Silver, Vallejo's Chrome (VMA), and these ones from AP..
Diablo 1 "town theme" inspired music? LOVE IT.
Thanks Nevah! I never actually played the first Diablo, but I was inspired by the New Tristram theme from Diablo 3.. :)

No problem :)

Yes, some nice glowing warpstone crystals with a little of the OSL.

+John Evans Thanks a lot John! Are you perhaps thinking of Runebound? Runewars is new and coming out on 13th :)
Absolute awesome work! Just one question, are you still using the airbrush for priming this model?
With black, grey and white, Like in episode 1 ?
best regards from germany ;)
+Tuppa666 Thanks Tuppa666! Yes I did provide a zenithal prime as in Episode 1. :)
wow. that wet blending looked amazing. Loved the music too! Is that available to DL somewhere?
Thank you sir! The music isn't currently available but I'm working on it.. :)
is there a trick to painting heraldry charges on shields and flags? like mini-stencils or something?
This might be a noob question, but why sometimes use water the thin and sometime lahmian medium? Cheers and I am constantly blown away by your work.
Hi Ben! That's a very good question.. I generally thin my paints with water but prefer to use Lahmian Medium when thinning the Shades because I find thinning them with water messes with their properties (flow etc) :)
Brilliant, cheers.
Amazing video as always Sorastro! I was wondering if you had Citadel conversions for the following AP paints?
Scaly Hide
Ash Grey
Mummy Robes
Werewolf Fur
Commando Green
Thanks for the amazing video. I'm hoping we haven't seen the last of Runewars from you!
Thanks a lot James! I'm actually just packing for a trip to America today and haven't had time to do the conversions but I'll do them after I return next week. :)
Thanks so much for the instruction and inspiration. What are your favorite brushes?
Thank you Jon! I haven't tried them all by any means, but I mostly use Rosemary & Co (Series 33) and Windsor & Newton (Series 7) :)
Thanks. I appreciate it. Look forward to seeing more of your helpful videos.
No problem! :)
Loved your video. My rider came out looking great so far. By any chance, do you have a playlist of the music you use and make? Would love to use it for writing.
Thank you so much Aras! Yes.. you'll find links to my music on this page (scroll down to the album "Oracle"): sorastro.com/sorastros-music/
Just simply AMAZING!
Thank you very much! 🙂
Hey, could you paint more blood rage minis?
Also, I would love to see your take into painting Arcadia Quest minis!
+Andre Souza Hi Andre! Yes I will be painting the rest of the Blood Rage minis and I'd also love to paint some Arcadia Quest; I just need to finish some of my current series before taking on anything new. :)
Cool! Great job on the videos, by the way! I keep watching them as I'm myself painting mine!
+Andre Souza Thanks Andre :)
Wow, Runewars is really making a push. A lot of youtubers in my list have put out something to do with the Runewars in that last week.
Yep I think they really want to push the hobby side of the game which is great! :)
If I was going to redo Lando....would you recommend doing the mixing the paint on the cloak or following the video (which would be more effective?)
+Jimmy Repine Hi Jimmy! For a more refined look I would highlight up as in the video. :)
Impressive as always!
Great video once again! What brushes do you use?
+augusti40 Thanks augusti40! I use Windsor & Newton Series 7 (sizes 1 + 2) and Rosemary and Co Series 33 size 2.
Can you please paint the new AoS Karadron Overlords battle ship? I'd love to see that.
It does look pretty epic doesn't it! I'll have to see though because my schedule is pretty tight...
I would pay extra for your time. Already a Patron. More than happy to get some help on those KO's!
Your work is amazing.
Thank you so much! 😃
Fantastic job! How long time you take to finish this mini ?
Thank you! I don't really know I'm afraid.. I worked on it over a couple of days :)
HI Sorastro,
i am currently working with all sort of Vallejo paints, but I am interested in the "new" AP paints. Can you tell me how the new AP paints changed in quallity compared with the old line/the Vallejo paints? (i found the old paints very bad)
That would be very helpfull.
Greetings
Hi Paintalist! This current line seems quite similar to the few that I tried a while ago from the older line. I will say that I do like the metallics from this new line. :)
That's promising to hear. I've always gone to Vallejo for metallics, but if these are solid I may take another look.
Have you played this game yet? What do you think? Great work, btw.
Thank you! Yes I've played it and frankly, it's awesome! :)
Seeing all these Army Painter paints is like watching someone who drinks Coke suddenly going all-in on Pepsi Max ;)
+darkowl9 Ha ha :)
awesome tutorials mate, i just suscribed!
Thanks a lot Kako! Much appreciated :)
How is it that each time I check your website for news you upload video? Thank you!
Ha - thanks :)
So inspiring. Thanks for your job.
Thank you François! I'm glad you liked it :)
the belly will look quite good when it has more of a shiny (moist) finish.. same for the mouth and the slime..
Hey Sorastro, can I request you do a tutorial on painting things up like they're ivory and obsidian? I'm thinking of making a chess set from miniatures as a gift for someone and I want to do one side as obsidian and one side as ivory. Thanks.
Nice work! Pretty cool model this one :)
+Kujo Painting Thanks mate! It's a pretty interesting figure for sure :)
Really cool new serie!!! The game look really cool! ;)
Thanks Monte! The game is pretty awesome :)
Glaze Medium (Vallejo) is the same as Lahmian Medium (Citadel)?
Your painting guids are amazing! Im waiting for Rising Sun ;)
Hi Michał! They're similar, except the Vallejo Glaze Medium also has a retarder in it which slows the drying time so it's really handy for wet blending :)
Ok thank you :)
Ok. That makes sense. Thank you
I've notice in a number of your videos you use a variety of shades, glazes and other technical paints.
Sorastro's Painting Thank you, I will look into getting some. Fantastic work as always, keep it up!
You're very welcome :)
It always baffles me how much paint you put in your palette, I definitely can't afford that ammount of paint :D
I see that sometimes you mix paints in a well of the palette that has already a thick layer of dried paint in it, it doesn't affect the new colour you're mixing?
Hi L'Utente! I might not be using as much paint as it seems, as the wells are quite small, plus the accumulated build-up of dried paint also makes them somewhat shallow. And no, the dried paint doesn't affect the new colours :)
Sorastro, would it have been easier, if for less steady painter, to paint the flesh first, then the carapace? I
do understand, your level of skills doesn't warrant that sort of "precaution". But maybe my concern is moot, considering the late stage shading?
+Damon D Hi Damon! I actually painted the flesh first on my "practice" Carrion and I don't think it makes much difference either way :)
Spectacular!!
Thank you Francesco!
+Chad Romano Hi Chad! I just use water to clean my brushes, and I just store them standing brush-end-up in my painting station. :)
How do you think Nurgle's Rot would do for the slimy bits around the mouth?
I think it would look great for a more realistic kind of look! (I just wanted an over-the-top luminous effect for mine.)
just beautiful!
Thank you sir! 😀
would you happen to have a color conversion chart for Army Painter? I'm having trouble with matching the colors to GW or Vallejo.
+Stagism Hi Stagism! Yep - I posted one in this thread here: community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/245888-sorastros-painting/?do=findComment&comment=2706685 :)
Awesome! Thanks a bunch!
No problem :)
Question - How many years has it taken to reach your current level of artistry?
Hi Brian! I started when I was a kid, but left the hobby for many years, and I returned to it about 10 years ago. :)
I was thinking of doing a pinkish underbelly, would Rakarth Flesh still be a good base to use?
Hi Damon! Well that really depends on how pink you want to go, but I think Rakarth Flesh would be fine, but I wouldn't use the same shade that I did; you could try something like an Agrax Earthshade/Druchii Violet mix instead to achieve a more pinkish look. :)
Fantastic, thank you so much!
No problem :)
Awesome job !
+Lefevre Antoine Thanks Lefevre! I'm glad you like it :)
do you know the citadel equivalent for that castle grey? I cannot find the answer
Hi eddie! Yep try Stormvermin Fur :)
I’ve noticed almost all figure painters love rakarth flesh! It’s all good. Seems like a great color for a million purposes!
Hey Mike! Yes it's pretty versatile, and it covers really well too :)
Any particular reason you switched to primarily Army Painter paints instead of using primarily Citadel paints?
Hi Aaron! Yes - at the time FFG had a partnership with Army Painter and as part of the commission arrangements I was asked if I would mind using some of the AP range in the video. :)
PS I posted a conversion chart here for non Army Paint users: community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/245888-sorastros-painting/?do=findComment&comment=2706685 :)
great video
Any chance you could paint some Wrath of Kings minis?
+Chris DeMint Hi Chris! I'm afraid I can't take any new games on at the moment as I have so much on the go.. :)
+Chris DeMint Thanks a lot Chris! I really appreciate the kind words. I think there's a good chance I'll be covering some Rising Sun. :)
Just noticed that your using a bit of Army Painter and no more Testor's seal?
Hi Joe! I was sent a bunch of AP paints to use for this video and I was happy to try them out but will generally be sticking mostly to Citadel and Vallejo. :)
Sorastro's Painting no problem with me. I use a ton of different paints. It was fun seeing you use them.
I would love to hear your perspective on the various brands of paint out there - the pros and cons. I'm new to the hobby and have started with Army Painter, due mostly to an attractive price and seemingly decent quality. But I would love to hear other people's experience.
Très belles empreintes digitale ^^ en tout cas la peinture est au top !
Thank you very much! :D
Nice job but, now that FF is sponsoring/backing/paying you, does this mean everything else is going to fall by the wayside?
Thanks Apoc! That's a fair question, but no - this was a 2-episode commission so I'll be returning to my regular series now that they're done (as you can read in my monthly update: sorastro.com/2017/04/01/coming-soon-for-april-2/) :)
Are you going to paint "Fireteam Zero"?
+toby1703 Hi Toby! I don't think I'll have time I'm afraid.
Too Bad. Those miniatures are really good.
finaly effect: WOW!
+Błażej Piotrkiewicz Thank you Błażej!
You are awesome.
You're too kind :)
As cool as I think this stuff is, I have really shaky hands. I've tried to paint miniatures, took me about 5 hours to finish one little skeleton. It didn't look half bad, but nothing like this. Wish I had the patience for this kind of stuff lol
