  • Time has come to strip the paint on the Sunbeam LOTUS shell. What will we find underneath the paint...... will there be any more surprises????
    We don't usually get in finished cars for restoration! This Sunbeam LOTUS had a full nut and bolt restoration but all didn't go to plan in the place that did the paint. The customer brought us the car to try and fix the defects but we found a lot more problems than we thought we would........
    Equipment List:
    Car polisher (used for stripping): amzn.to/3HLSSQK
    40 Grit discs: amzn.to/3hJYArD
    80 Grit discs: amzn.to/3hFTCMC
    DA Sander: amzn.to/3sLFJ5X
    Strip and clean Roloc discs: amzn.to/3hEtBgR
    Die-grinder (air powered): amzn.to/3sJ3ZWn
    90deg die-grinder (air powered): amzn.to/3IZIHJy
    Wire brushes for die-grinder: amzn.to/35QFugU
    Budget friendly primer gun: amzn.to/3vHi9Jq
    Full face mask respirator: amzn.to/3sJ7EU7
    No-Cry safety glasses: nocry.com/?ref=30

      The satin is awesome isn't it, it would be cool to have the decals in matt too!

I’m sure if you were around thousands of years ago you would have even got a mention in the bible!! I can see it now:- “ And Moses came down from the hills in his Triumph, following its excellent restoration work by Whiteland Restorations”! EPIC! 👍👍👍👍

    Even though the paintjob was bad it's always better to go back to bare metal as you get a better finish.

      @WhitelandRestorations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Always best to go back to bare metal if the budget allows it! 👍

    I watched this last night but I’m watching it again just in case I missed anything! 😃 It goes to show that if anything is worth doing, it’s worth doing properly! The car is going to look mint again but no rot under the paint. 👍🏼

      Yeah it did look like it had been braised on. We haven't stripped enough of them to know if it's factory or not. At least it was done properly and it's very straight if it isn't 👍

    Great work guys! I imagine this car was built in an era where unpainted bodywork with surface oxidation was painted over in the factory....car manufacturing has come a long way since then......

    • @WhitelandRestorations

      Actually it was only painted a few months before it came to us! Hard to believe!

    • @philtucker1224
      @philtucker1224 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m pretty sure the previous painters must be following this build very closely so it would be really nice for them to comment and explain why they think all of the paint pealed off? and have since corrected the problem (hopefully!) 🙏

    Nice job even though you were covered in black dust! Leane, I feel your pain when it comes to glasses and goggles! I saw you sticking masking tape over the rust, was that to identify the areas for further work? Looking forward to the next one. 😊👍🏼

    • @WhitelandRestorations
      @WhitelandRestorations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep that's exactly why we popped some tape there. Always easier to pick out when it's highlighted.....also stops us missing bits! Glasses are such a pain when it comes to messy work but that full mask did pretty well.

    • @WhitelandRestorations

      Glad you're enjoying the videos! Yes the mask is excellent with glasses..... there's a seal over the nose so there's no fogging up. Takes a few goes to get use to putting them all on together but highly recommend!

    It is lucky that the body panels didn't fit properly otherwise this problem would never have been found until it was probably too late!
    Don't mean to be do gooder, but i did worry about you not having extra breathing protection with you carrying a baby, so i am glad you got a full face mask now, an maybe Don't take it off until you are out of the spray booth, dust is still hanging around even if you can't see it! There i said it, but i am just looking out for new baby! Sorry I'm just a worrier! Lol

    • @WhitelandRestorations
      @WhitelandRestorations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's very lucky we found the issues under the paint. We dread to think what would have happened had we not found it. The rot would have set back in and it would have back to square one!
      Thank you for your concern about the little one. Have no fear, all this was filmed way before baby was on the way and Leane is banned from toxic work and heavy lifting for a while! 😁

    • @welchy1975
      @welchy1975 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not everything is about money with cars, I would pay what I had to pay to get a car how I wanted it, the end value would irrelevant. This will probably be the best one left once finished.

    • @byronmills5952
      @byronmills5952 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Properly mint Lotus Sunbeams with low ownership provenance now sell for 30 - 40k - and mainly by word of mouth.

    • @WhitelandRestorations
      @WhitelandRestorations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You'd be surprised at how much Sunbeam lotus' are worth. Also it's a car for a collection, at the end of the day the customer wants the car right and it only increases its value. Tony knows what he's taking about, it will be one of the best 👌
