  • Looking for French food on a budget while you're in Paris? I've got some great Frenchy French restaurants for you to try. Grab a copy of my guide to Paris at parisinmypocket.com/ and help me make better videos at / jayswanson then find me on the internet in all of the usual spots:

My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much.
Links below to Amazon are affiliate links - meaning if you click through them and buy something, I'll get some pennies. Thanks! (The FTC wants me to tell you that up front)
    FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? Over four years now, holy cow.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a "Draw My Life" video that explains a lot here: • Draw My Life
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I've made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself: bit.ly/JaysGearList
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here: • Why I Want to Live in ...
Do you speak French? - Oui. • Un Jour en Francais (E...
Do you make money off TH-cam? - Ha, sorta. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $5/mo to help me make better videos: / jayswanson
I don't trust this Patreon thing - can I just paypal you? - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game): ko-fi.com/jayswanson
But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. So instead people often drop off or ship things to the Peloton Cafe in Paris for me.
    Thanks for watching!

Carbonnade is actually a Flemish stew, where the meat is cooked with beer. It is more traditional to the Northern part of France, close to Belgium. Here in Belgium it is a real staple. So much that you can get the cheap versions of it in the frituur.
Btw, I've been last month in Le Dauphin, which I had good memories from a few years ago. It was over priced, the waiters were hipsters and the food was totally mediocre. We received a fish that was not cooked, the most expensive item on the menu. They saw we didn't eat it, they asked if it was ok, we told them - no- it's not cooked. No suggestion to replace it, and they charged us for it anyway. So I don't think we will be back. Other than that- thank you for the video! Also- Hi Lindsey!

Well timed and great content! I won’t deny that I make a fairly tasty French Onion Soup, but my goal was to improve on what you can get in the US which sometimes substitutes extra cheese for good taste. I love cheese, don’t misunderstand but a 1in cheese crust with a bland broth underneath was not what I thought I could expect in Paris so I put my tastebuds to work. Never thought about comparing the two (mine vs. a good one in Paris) but after paying excessive attention to your soups, I decided that I DO need to compare the two and kick mine up however many notches it needs kicked up to be palatable. I will be incredibly disappointed if the soup is bland in Paris. Surely not!!!
Great video, the dog looks good and Jess is a knockout, as is usual. You’re a lucky man Jay. And I am being presumptive. Was that your dad I saw sitting next to you at the table in the last (I think) restaurant?

Hi Jay. When we were in Paris at the beginning of April we were staying in an apartment just up the street from le marie celeste! We used to pass it regularly on our way to Rue Bretagne which is another street with plenty of places to eat and also has Le Marche des enfants Rouge on it. It was a great area to stay in the 3rd. My husband and I visited Paris in fall of 2019. There are tons of vegan/veg restaurants in the city. They even put out a handout that list some (not all) on one side and a map on the otherwise showing where they all all. Everything from vegan coffee shops to restaurants to vegan bakeries. The only hard time you have is settling on which ones to go to !!

I am going in a few weeks with my mom and my aunt, but my aunt is vegetarian. I am a bit (quite) concerned that I won't be able to really enjoy the French foods that I have been dreaming about if there is not much that she would eat.

you are correct, they are NOT deviled eggs. They're boiled eggs with mayo on top Oeufs Mayonnaise . With deviled eggs you take the yolk out and mix it with something like mayo, herbs, cheese, anything you like, very different.

Your friend is correct to pronounce porchetta as porketta- it is an Italian word, after all. The 'h' after the 'c' is what makes it hard, as does the 'h' after the 'g' in a word like spaghetti - otherwise, it would be pronounced 'spajetti.'

Chewy Escargots? Cooked too long, Onion soup seems to be a winner as is the Charcuterie Board and Devilled Eggs? Wine is favored with meals as is a light Soda water with lemon. Well next time perhaps a lesser busy place to enjoy food and learn menu, less rushed means good food! Later! Try Croton or Pate wiith Baguettte!

It would nice to show the bill at the end of every meal. why aren't you doing that? I think that would be very helpful.

The lack of salt in meals is because people with high bllod pressure need a low salt diet and you can add salt like you want anyway.
