    If you are new to my channel and Fy Nyth (Welsh for "My Nest") in general, welcome! I'm Ariel. Along with my husband Clay, our dogs, cats, and some poultry, we live in a tiny house on wheels in the mountains of western Wyoming and are working on setting into our own new little homestead. I've been living this lifestyle since 2014 and my wonderful partner has joined me more recently. What will you find if you follow the channel and watch the videos?
    Real life here. I try to show the good and the bad. The ups and the downs. What works, and what doesn't. The parts I love (most of it!), and the things that suck. Not just the showroom version of a tiny house, but everyday life in a tiny house. Not just the romantic idea of "homesteading" or off grid life, but the everyday details of this lifestyle. We split wood for heat, fill the water tank from a gravity fed spring, and attempt to grow as much of our own food as possible between the weather and wildlife here. I hope to help others learn from mistakes and make life just a little easier for anyone else interested in pursuing a similar lifestyle.
    We live in a somewhat harsh and cold climate, but enjoy the stunning scenery and wildlife that we are surrounded by on a daily basis. You'll also see videos of the nature and wildlife around my home. If you are interested in my photography or purchasing a photo, I'd love if you follow that over at mewe.com/join/... or ArielCelestePhotography.zenfolio.com!

    I just found your channel and love your videos very much. I also love pickled beets. By the way, I'm 80 years young. I do have a tip for you. If you use your jar for salt, cut out the top of a round salt box that has the thing to open the lid with and put it underneath the ring of your jar and you will be able to pour it out instead of having to open the lid every time. Instead of using rice in your salt jar, use some unpopped popcorn.

    Great video as usual, looks like you could benefit from a bit of knife sharpening! Bacon grease is always saved for making biscuits and cornbread at my house, at times to get grease is the only reason I cook bacon.

    Oh my word....my hubby would run from this pot of food due to the amount of garlic....he likes it very mildly garlic flavored. I like it however even I wouldn't eat quite that amount. But as you say Ariel to each their own. It does fight infection and is good in other ways too.

    Hi Ariel, on my Rocky Mtn Homestead, when I cut up onions, I like to place a bowl with water next to where I am slicing the onions...for some reason, the vapors like to go to the closest water source and if it is your eyes, then that is where they will go...I hope this helps :)

    I make mine just about the same way you do. If I have a pork chop or two; a chicken breast or two; not enough to make a full dinner, I chop them up and put it in my jambalaya along with everything else. Bacon with all the bacon fat, sausage goes in, too. MMMMMMMM! It needs the extra day for the flavors to blend.

    Remember: If you're going to let it sit overnight as she suggests, cover it completely while it's still simmering / bubbling hot, and keep it covered until cool enough to safely pick up the pot. Then store it in the fridge, keeping it covered the whole time to keep out dust and any pathogens (molds, bacterias, etc) that might be riding along on that dust.

    • @marlenejones6266
      @marlenejones6266 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And rice dishes MUST be refrigerated for sure. It can be a way to introduce food poison to rice that sat out overnight. Rice alone sitting in a pot or bowl all night on the counter can make ya so sick. Young kids are liable to become deathly ill from it. I

    How, timely. I just watched the playback of today's Townsends livestream and apparently, the Baked Onion recipe passed the Fried Chicken recipe to be #1 on their channel. Now, since I don't grow my food, I'm going to have to go and get an onion like one of Fy Nyth's spectacular harvest onions!!!

    Looks delicious! If you're curious, I think the only things really missing from a traditional recipe are jalapeños, maybe some oregano and thyme. That and the meat would probably be cooked first in the soup pot, laid aside, and all the brown bits incorporated into the soup. Definitely a recipe you can tweak to your own desire though.
