You can disable the maximum distance to 500 meters through the settings --> GPS mode. Τhe maximum distance is approximately 5 kilometers, but depends on many factors that affect the transmission of the signal. Τhe maximum altitude is 500 meters
Great review video James! I’m actually quite impressed with this drone, good quality with some great features at an excellent price - plus it’s 4K! A rather impressive alternative if you can’t afford the DJI price range.
I pop my gimbal and props off in about 20 seconds, fold the legs and it slides right into my med sized back pack. Try that with any of the phantom series. This also means I can protect my gimble better while travelling.Comparing this to a Mavic is wrong, try a p3 or p4. The phantom 3 se being its closest competitor in price.
You have the antennae set up wrong. You should point them downwards with the flat surface facing the drone. Gives you less interference from your phone and longer range. And the max distance can be set in the app as others already pointed out.
Just got one , given to me by my nephew , I’m having a demo tomorrow , I’m thinking of using it for work with my landscaping company . I’m hoping it will be good
James, if you did not know, the antenna configuration for that drone is to actually have them in a flat horizontal position. A bit weird but I am sure it is in the directions. Happy flying !!!
Can't believe you had the antennas pointing at the drone like that! Rookie! The signal was pointing up at the sky and down at the floor. Not at your Drone at all. Get some parabolic range extenders for a phantom p4 and file the hole bigger to fit. You will double the range. Also they will only fit on with your antennas pointing at the floor. (How they were designed to work) so don't file the hole too big or they will slip off. Rookie! Haha. Great review man. Great editing and info. I appreciate your work.
Hmm... seems like you never really checked the app features. As many have said, you only reach the limit that was the default setting in the drone. So to be honest. YOu should maybe adress your errors in the video, because even though you actually liked it, and gave it a thumbs up. Many things you said, was actually not correct.
Sir, you can get Xiaomi Mi Drone 4K UHD WiFi FPV Quadcopter for $439.99 with this coupon: GBmid-year07A,www.gearbest.com/rc-quadcopters/pp_363299.html?wid=1433363&lkid=14726039, enjoy!
You really need to watch a youtube review. To set poi you need to fly over the poi. And to use dronie you need to point the camera downwards so that it can go up without losing you.
If you want the strongest signal between the controller and the drone then the 2 rabbit ears on the controller should be perpendicular to the drone when flying. i.e point them down.
Very impressive, especially for the price. I notice the movement of the orbit wasn't all that consistent. Were you compensating with the sticks, trying to keep yourself in the center of the frame?
ok, so I've watched a couple of videos on this drone and so far I have not seen what I want to see in a review. How do the controls compare to the DJI models? i.e. when you let go of the gimbal stick, does the quad auto stop? Seems like such a hard thing for some to add to their reviews for some reason. Thanks for the rest of the great video review though.
Dude, it will go out way further, it has a built in learning feature which restricts certain functions, like height and distance ,after a few hours of flights are logged up, it will allow you to go more distance, this can be disabled, from the get go!
Awesome review. I’m currently waiting for mine to be delivered. What do you do about ND filters ? Do you know of any solution to that issue due to the shape of the camera? Also - do you need an SD card? Is there one in the box included ? What SD card do you use for 4k with this camera ? Thanks again for the great review. p. s. 500m is a limited distance by the app. I think it can be turned off or after you clock some time with the drone you unlock the full range. Correct me if i’m wrong. Cheers!
great video review. i'm a photographer myself and been thinking of getting a drone with a good flight time and great image quality. really impressed with this especially for the price. have you had any issues with it?
Well done. Thanks for the review and thanks for making my decision a bit tougher to decide on this or the DJI Spark. (not fly more since I'm on a budget) The pictures look great though.
You mention the drone is not easy to carry with you, but I think you're wrong! Xiaomi has several backpacks where it fits in completely. The props come off really easy and when you fold in the landing gear the drone is really flat! Also there is a cover available to cover the gimball. When I get the thing out off my backpack, most people are amazed by how small it can be carried :)
Nice video m8 cool drone but from my experience with antennae they should be tilted down by 45 degs and disable the lock on distance in settings....good work
Did u had to pay custom tax& vat on top of the retail price, and how much?just ordered one from gearbest via DHL and i don,t know if there will be more fees..
Thanks for your video. Just an observation. Your aerials are in the wrong angle and you must be on beginner mode still if you have not clocked up 5 hrs flight time. After that you can switch of beginner mode and use GPS. I I have seen some go over 4km. There is an altitude limit of 120m. Some have gone higher but I don't know how they overrode the firmware. Happy droning.
The older models of this drone limited the user re distance and height until they had accumulated a number of flying hours. The drone that is sold nowadays does not have this mandatory limitation. A beginner mode can be activated should you choose and this limits your height and distance. This can be turned off or on at your discretion. I have a 30L backpack and it fits in quite well. Take off the gimbal/camera, fold the legs flat and put it in a backpack.
Try using this backpack, it's custom made for the MI drone. www.gearbest.com/rc-quadcopter-parts/pp_543278.html Works great for me. I have had the drone about a week, still learning but looking good so far.
I don't think it is a matter of early drone models, most of the improvements, if not all, are firmware updates. Unless your'e talking about the 1080p version.
That's what I thought. Kinda weird he has not found that out in the review. Limited Range with the mavic was extremely limiting to me, it was one of the first things I turned off.
I really want to see great things out of XIaomi, and they are off to a good start. They still need to work with the camera, as it doesn't cope well with complex lighting situations at all. Also, they need to address the range issues - 500 meters in your apparently signal-clutter-free environment doesn't bode well. Come on, Xiaomi (and Yuneec and Autel, and...), we want you to offer us real alternatives to DJI's offerings.
Great video... Are there any options available for video shooting? I mean, can it do 1080P, 30 vs 60FPS, etc.? I want the ability to shoot 4K, but mainly for the future. Not sure if my current editing setup can handle it, plus, for youtube/facebook, 4K is overkill. They compress it down, so the viewer doesn't see the benefit in any case.
The "RC Saylors" have given the impression that their review of the Xaiomi Mi is perhaps the only honest one and the others are not. I'm wondering if they got a faulty one or just haven't learned it yet. Did you have problems getting it initialized and off the ground? I'm considering purchase.
Correct me please anyone who knows for sure, but I haven't been able to find anyone willing to post spare batteries to Australia - perhaps due to CE region restrictions? Anyone actually bought a spare battery for one of these?
hey mate, just received my mi drone here in the UK, and have problems from the straight after firmware updates. Seems it can't connect to camera, and no matter what I try, just doesn't see to connect to it. It fly's fine and gimbal works great, just connection to cam is faulty. Any ideas?
not really sure, but is that just through the cable to the phone? I had an issue where it didn't properly connect to my phone but worked fine with the wifi connection. Try that maybe?
How do you connect your phone? Via USB or the Wifi Conector? I am using the drone on ios with my iphone 7 and with the usb connection. i always need to reconnect the hotspot a second time for it to work.
Yes, i connect via USB cable and am aware of the hotspot issue on iphone... Anyway, all other firmware updates have been installed, except for the 4k cam, as it seems it can't connect to the camera itself... Strange, as gimbal works perfectly. I haven't tried through wifi connection yet, but don't think that will work... is there anyway of rolling back to factory firmware on drone?
Sorry to hear that. Maybe you should research the topic in one of those miui forums they might find a solution for you or contact xiaomi directly via the drone app.
Mr. Barbster360 - Attatch a telephone to filmequipment?! Are you joking? No filmmaker in the right mind has a mobile phone, we have secretaries. The last thing you want on a movie set is ringing phones!
Has anyone ever had a problem with gearbest.com on returning items, defective items or refunds? I am hearing really bad horror stories with this company as far as defective items and returns go. I am interested in this Xiaomi Mi 4k drone, but I heard if the item needs to be sent back, it is a nightmare dealing with gearbest.com customer service department and sometimes you end up wasting and losing all of your money and are left with a box full of "paperweights".
500m is nothing for distance. That's not very good at all and they say it's 4km? If the say 26 minutes flight time i would guess it's 21 to 22 minutes and if the say 4km range I would expect 3 but 500m is a joke.
Scott, you can override this 500 meters limitation. There is a menu on app to deactive this limitation. Actually long ranges ( responsables, without flat the battery) run about 4 to 5 km . Please, look this video and comment to me: th-cam.com/video/umk5frYBSiQ/w-d-xo.html Thanks a lot
Nice review. I got mine a couple of weeks ago (first camera drone) and overall I'm pretty impressed. More camera control would be great, and stills quality isn't amazing (plus there's the annoying horizon issue) but for the money I don't think you can do much better. The max distance is limited by default in the app, you need to turn it off to get the max distance. :) cheers!

Good review, well put together..bought my 4k drone earlier this year from GB, love every moment with it.
The motors sound like they need a tune, fair amount of oscillation. Great image quality though!
You can adjust the EV values of the camera by programming the right rotary dial.. - under Right Dial Settings..
You really need to watch a youtube review. To set poi you need to fly over the poi. And to use dronie you need to point the camera downwards so that it can go up without losing you.

My girl got me this drone for Christmas and I am loving it, I got the 1080p version and it's still amazing
Well done. Thanks for the review and thanks for making my decision a bit tougher to decide on this or the DJI Spark. (not fly more since I'm on a budget) The pictures look great though.
thank you for uploading a video on my birthday, guess I can enjoy the end of the day with an awesome review video
🎉Happy Birthday! 🎉
thank you

did you get uk plug with it or can you just use a normal figure of 8 cable?
This was useful, but I've only just started looking at drones. This seems good value.
Thanks for your video. Just an observation. Your aerials are in the wrong angle and you must be on beginner mode still if you have not clocked up 5 hrs flight time. The beginner mode is no longer time limited, you can turn off whenever you want. The altitude limit is 500m :-)
Quadcopter Fun Downunder Yes you are correct. 😀
500m altitude.
I saw a guy take one of these out 6700m with a set of parabolic antennas . . Although it was literally on 0% battery when coming into land lol
The older models of this drone limited the user re distance and height until they had accumulated a number of flying hours. The drone that is sold nowadays does not have this mandatory limitation. yea im waiting for them to sell out these early models..the 500 meter distance is B.S. for me.

no, the firmware updates,,thats the most important and can you talk to the company on a web site with questions..
support@FiMi.com
Love the video and that’s a nice drone still expensive for my budget but takes great video! 🙂
the mi drone is better than the phantom 3 standard, i had one and returned it, cant even do 1080 60fps and the range was cack
Where did you get this drone from? The cheapest I can find it for is £380
Looks like the RC aerials are not in the correct position. You can switch off beginner's mode and change altitude and distance settings.
Good review.
The distance is probably software limited just like the mavic. Pretty sure you can turn it off.
GanskeNow it's the learner or practice mode. When you've done enough hours the longer range and other menu features are enabled
That's what I thought. Kinda weird he has not found that out in the review. Limited Range with the mavic was extremely limiting to me, it was one of the first things I turned off.

Great Video! Enjoy this amazing drone!
Once they implement custom ISO and ShutterSpeed it will be almost perfect :)

1080P, 30/60/100 FPS and 2k 60FPS
So, does this drone have a follow me function?
The "RC Saylors" have given the impression that their review of the Xaiomi Mi is perhaps the only honest one and the others are not. I'm wondering if they got a faulty one or just haven't learned it yet. Did you have problems getting it initialized and off the ground? I'm considering purchase.
Great chatty lecture. Well done mate. Drone had set limit for beginners. You can change it.
Enjoyed your video. I'm on the fence between hubsan x4 109s pro and MI... Again thanks for your input. Happy droning
Do not get a hubsan x4 109s i had one the camera is crap.
nice video man
Thats a badass drone for that price, I'm impressed!
Yeah mate, I was surprised when I first tried it out! Great price for people starting out :)
Correct me please anyone who knows for sure, but I haven't been able to find anyone willing to post spare batteries to Australia - perhaps due to CE region restrictions? Anyone actually bought a spare battery for one of these?
Also got one. Fantastic.
Nice vid mate 😉
move the antennas down to get maximum range Mayte
Cheers for a superb review.
Not bad! The fps needs to be higher 60 would be awesome! Thank you for the video!
good review video
I got this its Brill infact it's that good I sold my dji .
hey mate, just received my mi drone here in the UK, and have problems from the straight after firmware updates. Seems it can't connect to camera, and no matter what I try, just doesn't see to connect to it. It fly's fine and gimbal works great, just connection to cam is faulty. Any ideas?

Hi nice video you consider sale this drone?
I like the video so much and I like the drone 😎😎😀😀😀
Great images,
Point your antennas down. You have them wrong in the video.
Can the drone zoom in
Video did look a little dark at times.
Now cost 296 pund on gearbest
I want to buy this drone
Be grateful that it stopped you at 500m because if it's out of your line of sight or beyond 500m you would have been breaking the law in the UK.
I want that drone soooo bad. but ill never afford it. but I thought the camera quality is great. it would be perfect for what I need it for.
perfect drone for the price
I only can dream of owning an drone
You are in beginner mode. The drone is actually way faster tha that and can go up to 2km away when you are not into beginner mode
He lift a drone that weighs 300 pounds easily
Under 300 maybe this friday?
309 euro now on bg
Mr. Barbster360 - Attatch a telephone to filmequipment?! Are you joking? No filmmaker in the right mind has a mobile phone, we have secretaries. The last thing you want on a movie set is ringing phones!
CellPhone is just for FPV, the 4k image was recorded at SD card located on camera.
Yes? And? How is your reply related to the strict no phone rule on movie sets?
What is the greater idea you are trying to convey here, Mr. Faria?
It sounds really loud!
the breeze4k for me
Are you new to drones? So many errors.
Has anyone ever had a problem with gearbest.com on returning items, defective items or refunds? I am hearing really bad horror stories with this company as far as defective items and returns go. looks jittery when it swirls around in an orbit
Are you forced to update before you fly ? If so always check before you leave the house.
Bit of a schoolboy error dude.
500m is nothing for distance. That's not very good at all and they say it's 4km? If the say 26 minutes flight time i would guess it's 21 to 22 minutes and if the say 4km range I would expect 3 but 500m is a joke.

Thanks a lot
its 600 dollars
The drone footage is kinda choppy...
Most drones are like this, incl.DJI
SKarea51 it was at 4k at 30FPS, so you could lower the camera quality for more FPS, and less choppy video.
mine looks similar when its up'd to utube, looks smooth as on my pc..
Dude you need to cool it with the bracelets
money ???????
Still pretty heavy though.
Shame it's now £390 :(
Nice review. I got mine a couple of weeks ago (first camera drone) and overall I'm pretty impressed. More camera control would be great, and stills quality isn't amazing (plus there's the annoying horizon issue) but for the money I don't think you can do much better.
If anyone's interested I'm uploading footage as I take it and writing a blog about my experiences at cleanslateimages.co.uk.
yep no pre flight way points, and that old 500 meter from take off point...eeww.
You can turn off the 500m distance limit though, but not the altitude limit.
Great! please keep us updated about your experiences with this drone. I was about to buy a dji product until I saw this so I'm thinking to get one too.
For fix the horizon issue, just calibrate the gimbal away from any curved view of the camera in a plane horizon table of floor.
I watched this in 4k and to be honest cant see much difference between the “4k” and normal footage
mulletrules1 there shouldn't really be a difference as the whole video is 4k...!?
BARBSTER360 ah fair enough! Well the whole thing seemed to lack the 4k shine that other videos have
Dont assume OA is always a good thing, trust me :)
Please note that you will get no support if bought outside China.
when did you hear this?
Banggood is the official supplier of Mi drone so their support goes through that page.
Too much talking
Looks like the dog peed on your bag
Sorry , no to CHINA product.
DJI is a Chinese company too.....
Radovan Dvorský thank you for making that point. I dislike the DJI Fanboys.
Sorry the computer you're using is made in China, and your phone too
90% of the gadgets u use are made in china... lol
bet the computer you're typing on has some chinese products in it's components.
