  • Caution - my potty mouth slipped through a lot in this one, sorry.
Watch and be amazed as I fumble through yet another mechanical miracle, the water pump! Which, by the way, was not the culprit! Sucks for me, good for you.
I typed in a quick guide below. I know my vids can be a bit...well, you'll see. So enjoy the movie kids!!!
Side note, you don’t really need to take that second bracket off. Take off on an as need basis.
Another side note, i found the video of the sound my car was making and attached it to the end in case you want to hear what a bad barely a year old alternator sounds like.
Another side note, if you are watching this on an Apple device, double tap on the right side of the screen/video and you can jump ahead in 10 sec increments. I still haven’t mastered how to edit a video.
    Quick Guide:
    Disconnect Battery
    Drain Coolant
Remove right tire, splash guard, and serp belt
    Remove two hoses from pump
Remove bolts from around pump. 12 total, including idler pully
Two bolts at top will be removed after engine mount removal.
Support engine with a jack and board
Remove right engine mount and bracket
Slightly raise engine just enough to remove top two bolts
    Pry Pump off of engine
    Voila!

Waterpumps are known to go out on the chysler, dodge, mini vans. Have one to fix on the way in the morning but it is 4.0, not the 3.6 . Great job. Glad to see another woman doing the job..

Ty, great job on this fix. I watched before starting and was thinking - there is no way you have to pull the motor mount - but you were right. We followed what you did and we got ours fixed. We saved $350 in mechanics fees. It took us 5 hours total. Thank you and great job. Keep up the good work and I am going to watch your other videos.

I have been professionally repairing vehicles for 40 years and you are a natural! Great job, too bad it wasn't the water pump. In the future get a length of garden hose and listen for which pulley.

To find out where a noise is coming from in a motor compartment use a plastic/metal pipe from your vacuum cleaner... Put it up to your ear and go over the motor... Good for lifters... noise will get louder when you get over top of the noise... My Dad showed me when I was a kid with my Chevelle to find a lifter tapping... Cool how good it works... Thank you for your help with the water pump...

Great job! You saved me from figuring out that the motor mount has to come off. Just know that your time was not wasted. Replacing the water pump before it starts leaking is not a bad thing. Well worth your time and money if you planned to keep it any length of time.

I've been looking everywhere on the internet on how to replace a water pump on my 2012 Dodge journey 3.6L . But while searching through you tube I saw your video and what caught my attention was the similar water pump picture. You saved my day. I have the same sound but now since you said it wasn't your water pump now I'm uncertain if it's my water pump.

@@tyrouse4876 I have a question/comment on 3.6L rocker arms: The rocker arms located further from the timing chain are not too bad to replace, but do the rockers located near the timing chain need the Miller Special Tool to relieve timing chain tension?

    • @tyrouse4876
      @tyrouse4876  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Justin - i feel like that would’ve helped. It was a pain to get the closer ones out. You will need one for sure to do the lifters.
Im assuming the tolls you’re talking about is the $200 set Ive seen on the internet.
However, i did see a video of a man working on a jeep and he used a 10mm wrench bent at an angle to get his rockers out. I think my husband used a blunt object and a hammer.
Once I get that tool, I should have a video out real soon. Hopefully in January.

Great video! I wish I would have recorded my water pump replacement on my wife's 2012 Town and Country. I never had to pull the wheel or the wheel well shroud. I managed to do everything from above. I removed the air-intake, the motor mount, serpentine belt, idler pulley, power steering fluid reservoir, and the thermostat. This gave me complete access to the water pump. took me a couple of hours though. I'm getting to old for this.
Great video though Ty Rouse. Well done! -Mark

Great video, sorry it wasn't the water pump. My wife and I were jet engine mechanics in the AF for 10 years. She won't touch a ratchet now, lol. I don't enjoy it but like you I do it to save the money and also because the couple of times we've taken our vehicles to mechanics it was a simple ripoff. We were on our way to an antique show once ( that's what we did for a living after the AF for 20 years ) after having had our exhaust system replaced on our box van. About 40 miles down the road on I57 I hear the exhaust dragging. I pulled over and got out and sure enough. The clamp had loosened and they did not put any hangers on it so I have to root around for a piece of wire to tie it up with. We made the show and had them fix it when we got back but never let them touch a vehicle after that. And exhaust was all they did and their shop was right next to ours. I have 3 or 4 more like that but this would be a very long post. Thanks for your service and your video. The job looks much worse than it is.

    • @snoopdog6793

When the water pump leaks water from the weep hole its because the bearing inside pump failed. But doesn't mean that the actual water pump fail. 🤷‍♂️

      @rvscootin3457 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@snoopdog6793 That’s true you can nurse it along for a while. But eventually it will completely fail. Possibly sending the parts into the radiator as they bounce around the engine bay. Or injuring somebody who just happens to be looking over the engine at the time.

Chrysler clamps will lock in the open position if you know how then after you put it all back together, just trip them with a flathead screwdriver.
Hose clamp pliers are a must though.

Something I don't understand is why they would design engines where u have to do more work to get to water pump. My water pump lasted 28 years before it started leaking. I was interest in buying a town & country are they reliable heard they had problem with tipm.

Starter was fun doing on this same van.
note: you don't need to remove the intake manifold. you'll have enough clearance but it will be tight, I took of the front motor mounts and loosened the rear bolts, book says to remove this and that but I avoided that like the intake, just need small hands and awkward hand turns lol.. and it will come out. be sure van is cool down cause you'll be working near the exhaust parts.
takes 1.5 hrs but I ended up doing 2 more vans took me an hour. book says 2.5-3 hours but I think that's because of the other unnecessary parts needed to take off..
