Excellent restoration I doubt if most people have any appreciation of the amount of work involved with this process! Just an outstanding accomplishment, kudos to you and your dad.

Thankyou for the compliments. This was a very simple restoration as it was just a strip down / repaint, but it still took about two months to get it to the point you saw in the video. Luckily this machine was in running condition when we got it so we didn't need to go into the engine or transmission, which would have been above our skill level and tooling. There is another youtuber who is doing a full ground up resto on this exact same machine single handedly and the amount of work he put into it is staggering. My hat's off to that guy!

This was the first bulldozer I ever operated, we had the shovel bucket and would load the truck over the back as well as the straight push blade. I remember starting the pup engine with a pull cord, and the diesel would make the most incredible smoke rings when it would turn over cold.

You never mentioned the shifter for the transmission. How many forward gears does it have? Curious about the electric starter the previous owner installed. How did he figure out the placement dimensions of it on the bell housing etc. to engage the flywheel or is it possible to buy a bell housing with mount for a starter on that engine? Anyone know? Would of been nice to start it at the end of the video.

4 forward, 2 reverse. On the starter... I can't answer that since I didn't know the fellow who did the conversion, and he has passed away several years ago. All I can say is that it works very well. I'd like to make a follow up video of it running, but not until it has the rubber track pads, otherwise it will wreck the driveway

The levers are for clutches and the pedals for brakes.

You are correct. Pull the lever all the way back to release the steering clutch. If the cat doesn't turn sharp enough you can use the brake.
The pony exhaust doesn't go through the diesel engine. The pipe goes through the intake manifold, which warms the air going into the diesel.
On the transmission, that little oil cup doesn't fill the transmission, that is an oiler for the main clutch collar. The transmission is filled by the large bung on the top of the transmission.
Does the blade tilt as well as pivot?

Very nice restoration job by you and your father. I was wondering about the prep job: sandblasted, wire brush, primer, paint used, etc.?

Thank you, the prep was done with everything under the sun. Wire wheel, paint remover, and finally sandblasting. The paint was CAT official paint and hardener was used in the mix. All paintwork was spray gunned on.

I would love to know where to buy new seats , I just purchased a 1951 d4 7u and when I was power washing I noticed it was originally green in color and had white lettering so I’m guessing originally in the military , I’m just learning about these machines

sorry but I can't help you out too much. This one was something that was for sale on the side of the road, which from what I have seen is typically how you find one for sale. Ebay has them listed from time to time, but normally this is the type of thing you get by chance encounter or if you know a guy who knows a guy type of thing.

Just subscribed! I have a d4 7u and would really like to see more of your d4. Could you make a couple of vids with you starting and using the blade and its functions, that would be a good addition to my d4. Also the electric starter might be an upgrade i might be interested in. Anyway, great video i really like all the upgrades on your machine, and hope we can see more of it!!

Do you have any info on the front track wheel and the slid rails that hold it if it holds oil bc it looks like it does

it holds oil really well. The way you see it was how we got it. No work or other alterations were needed. Not sure if the other owner changed out the seals or if they are original.
