Installing the RAM, CPU and cooler before putting the motherboard inside the case is just way too easy. PRO builders like in this video enjoy the challenge of putting the CPU in LAST, with all the components already inside and cables dangling in the way. Bonus points if you cut up your hands on all the sharp edges and solder points in there. Allows you to show off the scars from your first PC build later.

@Reversed Tech No, build on a surface that IS conductive! Non-conductive surfaces build STATIC charge, where conductive surfaces do not, if they are grounded. The whole point of anti-static is to provide conductivity (with a resistor to slow the current down some) so static charge does not build up and cause an ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) that causes damage. Maybe the verge will hire you...

Yep it seems the newer Corsair radiators have moved the flow channels away from the screw holes to prevent people that use incorrect screws from puncturing the rad. Imagine if someone uses a different aio and punctures the rad because of this tutorial... $2000 down the drain..

Thank you for making his video and helping the pc community. I sent a video time stamped breakdown of the issues on Friday to Stefan Etienne, which of course was ignored, but looks like I was not the only one who picked of the 40+ errors:
0.36 Those are cable ties, not tweezers
0.40 Swiss Army knife, really? Not a philips screw driver in sight.
0.43 Anti static plastic bracelet which is not connected to anything- How are you grounded to protect parts and yourself?
1.49 For video streaming you recommending a i3 or i5? Please try to stream with least than 4 cores and see the result.
2.20 Opening all the boxes get people confused. Open the box which you need at the time of the build.
2.26 Adding motherboard in the pc case. No, you add cpu and ram to board as it easier to do so while motherboard is in open space. And mount the AIO backplate before installing the motherboard.
2.36 Reasons for choosing board. Most top tier Z370 chipset motherboards have NVM support these days and bluetooth/Wifi, so why Asus was chosen?
2.50 The brace is called a IO shield.
3.00 After you said be careful with motherboard earlier, you then rest motherboard back solder back of motherboard on the motherboard rinsers and scrap it across towards IO shield.
3.12 You did not screw all the motherboard screws as when you installed the gpu, you can clearly see some missing.
3.24 Ram, lights and its fast 2666Mhz. The Asus Z370 supports ram up to 4500Mhz - 2666Mhz is almost half speed. Most Z370 chipset motherboard are best running DDR4 ram at 3200Mhz.
3.43 - Ram installed incorrectly, Dual channel mode uses alternative dimm slots, not next to each other. In this case it would be recommended dimm B2 and dimm A2.
4.00 SSD chosen because dont want to deal with wires (check end of build and tel me how the cable management).
4.10 No meantion of additional mechanical drive storage.
4.31 Installation of gpu hinders install of cpu and other components.
4.41- PCi Express Slot are not called lanes.
4.46 Pick the top pcie express slot because does not want to cover ssd because it looks nice. Not checked manual to find out which has the full x16 pci express lanes which is best for gpu.
4.58 Those are not brackets their are expansion slot covers.
5.15 PSU 850watts for a system that has a gpu that draws 180 watts. RTX2080ti will top 300 watts so you would not have to upgrade it even if you had a quality 650 watts psu.
5.18 Power supply is not a brick.
5.22 Thoses are not insulating pads, there are there to minimize vibrations when psu is operating.
5.26 Power supply will not short circuit if it comes in contact with metal case. That's why is has a case build around the psu components.
5.31 PSU installed backwards. The case actually has vent holes on the back so its designed for psu to face out so fan can suck in cold fair. You got it sucking warm air from the pc case.
6.11 Used wrong screws. The screws you used are to install fans to radiator. There a separate set of screws to screw the radiator. Can i ask did you bend the radiator fins as you tried to screw through with a 30mm screw to a 5mm space blocked space?
6.21 Lie and incorrect, not all psu comes with big bag of velcro cables.
6.28 Not daunting if you check the manual you find that you need just 3/4 cables for your build.
6.46 Matching the cable to the motherboard and psu. Wrong. Each end of the cable needs to be checked as only one side will connect properly to psu while the other to the motherboard.
6.53 You missed the EPS power cable for the cpu which is 8 pin, sata power cables for you AIO and pci express power cable for gpu.
7.19 Exposed cpu socket not holder or slot.
7.37 If you checked the cpu and motherboard you would find a triangle on one of the edges which is what is used to align the correct orientation of cpu installation.
8.11 You installed the motherboard without installing the AIO backplate which magically appears with mounting screws already on it at 8.38
8.17 Incorrect. Not every cpu cooler comes with pre appplied thermal paste.
8.22 Pre-applied thermal on the cooler is more than enough hence its been pre-applied by manufacturer.
8.23 Incorrect. Its not good pc building practice to add more thermal paste to existing pre-applied thermal paste. Good pc building practice to to clean off the pre-applied thermal paste with some TIM cleaner and use a better quality one.
8.28 You put a pea size amount on cpu on the centre so when you install AIO cpu waterblock it spreads.
8.38 Its mounting screws which magically installed themselves on to the AIO back motherboard mount which you did not installed to begin with.
8.47 Incorrect. Those 4 mounting screws are what is going to keep the waterblock on the AIO at full contact with cpu IHS.
8.54 Each nut should be tighten on opposite side to avoid uneven pressure stress on the motherboard. Top left, bottom right, top righ and bottom left with 2 turn each time. You missed one of the screws as only 3 is actually on at the end.
8.56 AIO fan headers not plugged in, no sata power power plugged to AIO.
9.00 Panel connectors not installed, usb, sound and case fans not installed.
9.09 Any pc built, first thing is to go into the bios by pressing F2 or Del and check that the components you installed are present and that all temperature are in order.
9.15. Incorrect. You dont need a usb flash drive. Windows come in other formats including DVD format for people who have a optical drive which you chose not to include hence you have no choice but to use a usb flash drive with windows on it.
9.25 After installing windows. Priority is update the motherboard bios to latest version and enable XMP profile for the ram. Then install Anti virus program then display driver, OC software etc.
9.31 You used a GTX1080 for 1080p while a GTX1070 actuall is more suited for that resolution. Also you got a k series cpu and installed a AIO but you not bothered to overclock the cpu???
    9. Arma 3 is cpu bound game and you running stock cpu frequency.
10.02 Averaging 120fps on League of Legends. What is the 1080p monitor resolution refresh rate?
10.12 300fps on what refresh rate monitor?
10.26 Battlefield V and Cyberpunk pc requirements not been finalized so how can you know that you going to be able to game at max settings on those games?
10.33 When RTX gpu comes out, you going to spend 50% of what it cost to build the pc to upgrade to a gpu that is 25% faster than the current 1080ti. Does think makes any sense?
10.44 You RMA a computer part when it fails. You would only have to send you whole computer if you bought a pre built system and there was a fault with it.
10.49 Benchmark and test games. You did not even do a stock or OC setting benchmark on 3DMark, Valley or Heaven or even got MSI afterburner to check your gpu temps and frequencies.
How do you expect for people to take any games benchmarking that the Verge do seriously.

I have built computers on the floor on carpet, on a desk, on a chair, on a couch and on my lap. Never once actually used a table. What I recommend to people is to use a clean working surface such as a workbench, desk or table. You don't need any of them to actually build a computer.
The lap method works well for me with small form factor cases that are lightweight.
Of course I don't recommend building the computer on the floor on carpet, but mostly because it's not a comfortable way to build a computer.

So far out of every tech channel that I've seen give a reaction to this video... Your criticizisms were actually constructive, and helped informed me on alot of things that were wrong in this video. Most other youtubers simply say "oh wow that was obviously wrong" but fail to go into detail of how it was wrong, because they think it's basic information to someone who has never built a PC or anything close to one in their life. For example, I didn't even know about the wrist band thingy until the video from The Verge, because no one except Linus Tech had ever mentioned it before, then I found your channel through this video, and not only did you confirm it's a thing for me, but explained that there's supposed to be a cable running between it to the ground, something I wouldn't have ever thought of. So far I've subbed, mainly because you said that you feel as if you should make a video proudly showing how... Honestly, considering your constructive criticism, and attention to detail on what to teach, I would highly recommend making that video! Not only would it be an actually useful video for the casual gamer wanting to switch to PC, but it would most likely get alot of attention and benefit you and your channel aswell.
Anyways, I hope you see this comment, thanks for the info in this video, and have a great day!

The 3D Printing Corner dont remove it, it creates a pin dot mark, so when you RMA the MB they can tell if you installed the cpu right. its there to let you know how much pressure to use when pulling and locking the lever. most people but way to much pressure pushing the lever touching the pcb, you should barley gently bring it down enough just to clear the hook. it should never ever touch the pcb.

Say what you want, but the original video was actually a service towards the PC Community. I've seen several videos already reviewing the original one, and step by step saying what was wrong with it. Not the "you're just bad at it", but the "no, that's wrong, because if you do that this will happen, and you should do this instead to prevent it". That's what PC enthusiasts do. They dont punch down, they try to educate so you'll grow from that experience.
Also, the debate of "get the qualified person to do the job" came up. And it's justified. Since this isnt a personal youtube page, it's a company. Even worse, nobody bothered to check the final product, so there was no editorial involved in this whatsoever. Claiming that "it didnt met their editorial standards" was a joke by itself. They're flying blind there. If a person with that knowledge applied to work in the tech industry, and their hands on test was to quickly assemble a PC, let's just say that they wouldnt get the job.
Regardless, it started the discussion, and that's great. It's lego's for adults, correct, but educated adults. If you dont know what you're doing, you shouldnt be making videos catered to others that are looking for information on how to do it. And it doesnt matter if you spend 2000 dollars on a PC. If you assemble it incorrectly, you'll have it running slower than a PC that costs half the price. There is no shame on paying a professional to assemble it for you, if you think you are over your head. And that's also the reason the service isnt free.
