  • How to do aikido kubishime is the topic of this new video by Lenny Sly sensei of the Rogue Warriors Training Compound!. Sly sensei shows us how to do kubishime (aikido choke) technique off of a yokomenuchi style attack. Sensei shows the in's and out's of this very effective choking technique, by demonstrating how to properly enter into the attack. Sly sensei also goes into the technique by demonstrating the application of hijishime (elbow lock) and the transitioning into the kubishime, as well as showing us another version of kubishime.

    I’m all for Aikido being used as self defence. The spiritual aspect to it was O’Sensei’s journey, understandable since as you get older you become physically weaker and therefore rely on technique that has evolved into the energy realm. The problem is with Aikido across the board is the way it is trained. There’s no free play between uke and nage, just staged attacks. In reality timing may not be on our side, but is something we need to reclaim to take control back.

    Great video Lenny! I moved from Aikido to Daito-ryu Aiki-Jujutsu to rediscover more combative and realistic techniques. It's very nice to see you pushing Aikido away of Aikikai delirium and back to a more fighting system.

    I've studied 4 styles over my 50 years of training. Aikido is the last of the 4. My system is extremely dangerous and violent. I combined Poekoelan, Jeet Kune DO, Shotokan and Aikido. I do lots of Bunkai combining the aspects of all four styles. Doing Shotokan Katas and breaking down individual techniques and adding Aikido control and execute techniques. Dam good training.

    My favorite Henko Waza, you are right, but nice or not, no time for that decision, it has to be like emotionless, once the Uke is locked up, then compassion and mercy can have a place!

      Thank you for messaging me i really appreciate what you said. It's time for us to take aikido back. unfortunately O'sensei son and grandson failed to take aikido to the next level and follow O'sensei vision of evolving the art that he created. I get it tho, it turned into a business and they obviously had to do that to achieve the success that they did.

    it's funny how even today with all the information available about this stuffs most people doesn't know the difference between SELF DEFENCE and a FIGHT!. Offcourse this tecnhinques won't work in a street figth, if you're thinking in exange punches and kicks this is not what you need. For that you can do muay thai, kick boxing or something. No hay caso con estos 'cabecita de MMA'
    Thnks sensei! greats techniques! excelent job........ OSSU!!!

    Good clean technique. Wasn't able to clearly see the left hand choke at 4:48. Is uke being choked with just one lapel or is it your knuckle pressure into his throat leveraged from his lapel?

    I was given to understand that "harmonizing energy" (Ai-Ki) was more about absorbing momentum to turn it in on itself.
    The philosophical level, as my sensei taught, was not to go out looking for a fight, or do more than is necessary to neutralize a threat.
    To put this into perspective for others, as I know you understand this Lenny, take for example the MMA "ground and pound". Now, in real life, that would probably get you charged with aggravated assault even if you were attacked first. Most cops and courts aren't going to think it's reasonable to jump on a downed opponent and proceed to bash their face in when you could have just run away...
    Now, from the aikido perspective, it's not "do no harm" it's "do what is necessary" no more, no less.
    Take the series of techniques shown here. There are opportunities throughout to cripple the arm, the fingers, choke out the assailant, or even potentially break their neck. At no point are you *not* engaged with your attacker, so this is all in the context of the initial assault. At no point could it be said that "you could have escaped" because letting go of them would mean giving them a chance to attack you again.
    People who don't spar with aikido don't realize how easy it is to sprain or strain something even when going light with each other. We don't do these locks as "submissions" we do them fast and "snappy" with kime. No one taps out on the street. We break them so they can't do us further harm. That's doing what is necessary.
    Because we understand that other people have families, fall on hard times, and are pushed to desperation. It's tragic when it happens to anyone. We can disable our enemy without hatred. We can injure them, and still have pity on them. People who don't live with violence don't understand how that's not hypocritical or oxymoronic, so let me try and make it simple; violence happens whether you want it or not. When it does, I feel sorry for the fact that the person attacking me has met with circumstances that make them feel this was a good idea, or their only option. Doesn't mean I won't break them. Means I feel bad that I have to, but I'm still gonna do it.

      Aikido is as painful as uke wants. You go down with the technique and walk away with slight harm or resist and break your tendons/joints

    At 0:13 where can I find a slow motion break down of that technique? Although, I wouldn't try that if the offender is armed, but that's beside the point. Someone please show me a video where that particular technique is broken down.

    I'm trying to see the street practicality of this but I'm still skeptical. Do people really attack like this? I don't think so. What happens when the target guy resists? (this guy clearly isn't resisting at any stage) Perhaps this might be useful against completely untrained, slow attackers, but against someone who has had even a little fight training, it seems.... dubious.
    It might be useful to see some actual sparring matches between a high level Aikido practitioner and say some lower level Karate or kick-boxing students. It'd be curious to see if an Aikido opponent could manage to pull off the grabs and locks required.

      @lucasglatthardt5368 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      madmax2976 I had the same questioning when i practiced aikido. But now i realise, these attacks are simulations. For example, Shomen Uchi and Yokomen Uchi could simulate a bottle attack to your face. In the firt one, coming from an upper angle. In the second one, a side angle.

    • @tmarevisited118
      @tmarevisited118 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What happens when you resist those locks? *it hurts a lot*
      Speaking from experience in a dojo where sparring was done daily. Yes, an aikido dojo. Yes, some of us *DO* spar. I think all of them should, but some are really into it more as a type of spirituality than a combat art...
      Bottom line; these techniques break people. We don't do submission in aikido, we do destruction. The point is to cripple them or render them unconscious, not give them time to rethink their decisions.

    My teacher called this "old style Aikido"...hee hee...his Aikido was a bit "abrupt" in contrast to many you see now days. I think that the greater Aikido community has taken much of what they think O'sensei said and then spun it. The statements about Budo is Love and Aikido is the loving ptotection of all things were sayings brought forth by his son and the dojo cho of the time in an attempt to bring Aikido away from an association with the war movement. The all want to be just friends Aikido crowd forget that Aikido is a MARTIAL art.
