Thanks for watching the second video in our houseboat camping series! What are the must-haves on your provisioning list for a fun weekend on your boat?
We do it pretty much the same as you do. We usually camp for a week at a time, so I like to prep our meat ahead of time by trimming it and packing it in marinade/seasoning and freezing it. When it thaws, it’s ready for the grill. We keep a few staples and canned items on the boat that we stock at the start of the season. We don’t leave anything in the fridge but drinks and condiments and ice pops/ice in the freezer. Our marina loses power power here and there during storms and our lake floods about once a season where you lose power and can’t get to the boat for a few days to a week so you definitely don’t want any meat left. We leave our cart locked up at our marina so we don’t have to bring it back and forth. It saves us a little space since we have three teen boys and two large dogs riding in the car with us!
That is a GREAT idea to marinate the meats and freeze them ahead of time. We may try that sometime this summer, especially for a longer trip away from the dock. Bet that helps a lot with the dinner prep after a long, fun day on the water. Thanks for the tip. Totally agree on not leaving much in the fridge when not at the houseboat - we've learned the hard way, too haha
Packing that cart last is key!!! Especially when we were working with tighter margins with Clare's old baby nap schedule. Thanks for watching our video and for commenting. Hope you are enjoying our houseboating channel as part of your boating channel rotation.
Wow in my head, I'm so there with you, packing and pervisioning is all part of the fun, getting ready to go to wildwood new jersey in a few weeks and I'm so excited I'm packing stuff already lol, have a great time, love the videos and thank you for sharing 👍🙏❤️😎bye
How fun! Neither of us have ever been to New Jersey, and Wildwood looks like a blast. We get excited about trips in that way, too, where we enjoy packing early. All part of the excitement of getting to travel, make memories, and have an adventure. We've got a really fun sailing trip planned in September this year with some friends, and the planning part is almost just as enjoyable. Thanks for watching and happy packing/trip!
nothing worse than showing up for a weekend and finding frig went out and it was full of hamburger meat or some kind of sea food. I've learned that the hard way. I don't leave anything that can go bad in there anymore. I almost tossed the hold frig it was so bad. LOL
Haha, oh no about your fridge! Seriously nothing worse to the start of a houseboat weekend than showing up to spoiled food in the fridge...we especially don't leave dairy when we aren't there, either. Such a foul smell when rotten. That happened to us a couple of times...hopefully never again. Glad your fridge was salvageable.
Great video! Thanks. For me and mine we do the following while on the water: Grilled Hotdogs/Brats Shish Kebabs (chicken, mushrooms, onions, pineapple, etc) Hamburgers Grilled chicken breast Pasta salads Grilled chicken salads Steaks and ribs plus fish! 🥳🎉🐔🚢🚣♀️⛴️🐟
Hey Ben! Thanks for watching and commenting. You have the pontoon boat out yet for the summer?? We need to do more ribs and pasta salads on our boat - that's a great idea. We also do a lot of hot dogs, hamburgers, and grilled meats. Shish kebabs are probably one of our favorites to make. Both delicious and festive. Figuring out what sides we want with our meals is probably where we struggle with our creativity the most. Hope your summer is off to a good start.

Helpful tips! I watch a lot of boating channels & always wondered why they don't have a cart like yours for provisioning. Best tip...pack cart last!

Packing a great attitude is the most important
Absolutely! That great attitude can make or break an experience when houseboat camping.
