Hi Mav, I went to Vancouver, Canada back in the day to see The Who. I stayed in a hotel in the middle of downtown and I noticed that during the day, downtown is buzzing, it's craziness in a good way. So I'm on the top floor of whatever hotel I was staying at, and I'm staring out the window looking down at the city, and after midnight it's like a ghost town! It was a trip because everyone disappeared, and there was a street sweeper going around cleaning up the town! Very clean! I've never seen anything like that in Seattle. I thought it was pretty cool. There's really no point to my story, I just remembered that when you mentioned the street sweeper so I thought I'd share. Keep on Truckin Mav 🤘🎸🎶💙

Hot Gravy Sandwiches were a family staple during the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and into the 1970s. Most places called them "Blue Plate Special" Sandwiches because many Diners and Pool Halls offered them up on plates with blue rims. The Pool Halls were open into the wee hours of the morning before fast food places were everywhere. When I was on the Police Department as a Dispatcher they were our best options for dinner during the Midnight (Hoot Owl) Shift 11 PM to 7 AM. Fun seeing them still being served up!
Its 2020 a still cook them quite often, especially during the wonderful northern winters
Yup , i remember going to husky truck stop when i was a kid with my parents and they often got the open face beef or turkey sandwich. Mashed potatoes , peas & corn, covered in gravy.... now i am hungry lol
In the Midwest, we have a similar dish and my dad called it “Sh%@ on a Shingle”.

You and me both, I'm in the same boat! I was a touring tournament angler but my health has gone down hill over the last few years. It's brutal. I miss the outdoors so much. I miss competing. I miss camping. I sti have the knowledge...just not the ability. It hurts, it really does.

Back in 1986 I went to Sherbrooke to visit my girlfriend and her mother made this concoction it was pita bread and she stuffed it with freshly made French fries and homemade coleslaw. I thought to myself oh heck no, but dang it was pretty darn good. She said it was a local delicacy.

Hey Mav, I live around Montréal but I'm in Baie-Saint-Paul, one hour east of Québec city, for the summer. Incredibly beautiful. Idk if you're heading this way but it's for sure worth it if you are. There's Parc National des Hautes-Gorges or/and Les Grands Jardins too if you want. Enjoy your trip wherever you're heading. :)

Here’s a recipe to try: chicken Fajita pasta!
Ingredients
* 2 tbsp olive oil
* 2 large skinless chicken breasts, cut into strips
* 1 onion, thinly sliced
* 1 red pepper, deseeded and sliced
* 1 yellow pepper, deseeded and sliced
* 1 garlic clove, crushed
* 1⁄4 tsp chilli powder
* 1 heaped tsp sweet smoked paprika
* 1⁄2 tsp dried oregano
* 1 tsp ground coriander
* 1⁄2 tsp ground cumin
* 3 tbsp tomato purée
* 80ml double cream
* 350g penne or rigatoni pasta
* 1⁄2 small bunch of flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped
* grated parmesan or cheddar, to serve
STEP 1 Heat the oil in a large shallow casserole or frying pan. Add the chicken and fry for 5 mins over a medium heat until golden all over. Remove and set aside on a plate.
STEP 2 Put the onion and peppers in the same pan and fry over a medium heat for 8-10 mins. Add the garlic, dried herbs and spices and cook for 1 min. Add the tomato purée and cook for 2 mins. Return the chicken to the pan and pour in the cream, stirring to combine. Season to taste.
STEP 3 Cook the pasta following pack instructions, then drain and reserve 150ml of the cooking water. Add the pasta to the pan with 50ml of the water and stir everything together over the heat. Add a little more water to loosen if needed. Season to taste and stir through the parsley. Divide between six bowls and top with a little cheese and extra chopped parsley, if you like.
